  1. 🙂 Hearing about some people who have come to know the Lord.

😦 The young man we know who is still missing.

😦 People who cannot discuss politics fairly and rationally and/or reduce everything to politics.

😦 Bullies–those who use heckling, making fun of people continually to make their points, instead of rational discussion. I dislike this from both sides of the political aisle. I do not mind passion, but it should be expressed with respect, IMO, as much as possible.

🙂 All of our wonderful blessings that we so take for granted. Those who have been without them and those who still are certainly realize how much we do that. Appreciation for all those who are helping their neighbors in all the various ways possible on the East Coast during this difficult time.

  2. 😦 I just spoke with a liberal friend and finally got brave enough to ask if she was voting as she had in the past or going the different route. She said she was sticking with Obama because she does not like Romney.

😦 My husband coughed a lot in the night so it was hard to sleep

🙂 My son’s sinus infection seems to be clearing
😦 My son’s bronchitus/wheezing is sticking with him for awhile longer

🙂 It is the last weekend before the election
🙂 God is on His throne
🙂 Joe Biden is not President (he seems as bad or worse than BO)

  3. 🙂 14 people for Bible study at our house last night – and we all fit!

🙂 Who knew when we moved here that there would be that many people so close to us who would like to fellowship and learn with us. (20-30 minute drives for almost all of them)

🙂 Celebrated the belated birthday of one of our regulars whose MIL passed away the day before her birthday a few weeks ago.

😦 We need more chairs, and more comfortable chairs.

🙂 Hubby was able to lead without coughing until he was done.

  4. 🙂 The election is drawing to an end. We hope.

😦 Unless the results are too close to call.

😦 Hurricane damage and loss of life & property. Did you all hear that sad story about the two little boys who died when they were swept out of their mom’s car? Horrible. 😦

🙂 Huge booms had the town feeling nervous last night, until it was determined it was homecoming night. 🙂 Although there were also reports of shootings. Big night in our port, apparently.

🙂 Got the Jeep in for service — much simpler and cheaper than it was last time, I only needed an oil change and an alignment. And they rotated my tires for free. I also was overdue on that and just could never find the time to get it to the tire store where the free service is provided.

🙂 Their “loaner” for me for the day was an older CRV, which was very nice to drive, similar to my Jeep really (I have a hard time now driving those low-slung sedans they usually give me; it feels like I’m driving a go-cart, I can’t see anything!).

😦 But driving a new car of any kind is always a challenge when it comes to figuring out where everything is. What does that light mean? Why is it beeping? How do I change the radio station? Where are the mirror adjustments? Oh wait, I’m driving. I guess I’d better just watch the road.

  5. 🙂 Oh!!! And the best part of getting the car serviced?? They set my clock. Woohoo!!!! I’ve never bothered or figured out exactly how to set the thing.

So they set it for the time change tonight. But I never look at it since it’s always wrong. I’ll make sure to look at it today. 🙂

🙂 After I dropped the car off, though, I worried because I remembered I’d left my radio dial on Fox News. Ouch. The guy who owns the shop, someone I know through the paper/community network, is a very strong liberal.

I really do make an effort to keep my politics to myself when it comes to interactions with sources & the community via my role as a news person. So I thought to myself, “oh-oh. busted.”

The radio had been turned off when I got back inside the Jeep to pick it up. 🙂

  6. 🙂 And he was very chatty and friendly when I picked the car up, he bent my ear for about 20 minutes or so on community stories and goings-on. So I guess we’re still good. 🙂

  8. 🙂 Wildlife sightings this week included a pair of redtail hawks flying in circles over our backyard. Well, the male was flying in circles and his mate came in too, and then they flew farther back. Also, a skunk, which apparently paused at the side of the road and aimed in case we came in closer (my husband saw that part, I didn’t), but decided we weren’t enough of a threat to fire his ammunition.

🙂 Finished two work projects, and now I have a bit of a break (hopefully not too long, but I like a break sometimes).

🙂 Home-drawn post cards from my sister’s children to wish us a happy anniversary.

    😦 Winter heading our way.

  9. Anybody who is wondering how to align the smilies on the left, hit enter twice at the end of each paragraph, not just once (as though you are putting a line space between paragraphs).

Is this different from above? I pressed enter twice, but I think I did that the first time, too. Let’s see what happens. 😉

  11. OK, here’s my theory: I think the smilies don’t align on the left when there is a short sentence (only one line) just above it. ???

  12. Nope. I thought pressing enter twice before typing my comment would do it, but apparently having no text above makes the words appear up at the top after posting.

  13. Great Sunday School party for the young ones in our class. The adults had a good c:-) hance to visit with each other, too. The weather was perfect for roasting hotdogs and marshmallows (for s’mores) at the fire pit. We also had ice cream sundaes. It was my first time to try veggie hotdogs. They are okay but a little lacking in tastiness when compared to regular hotdogs.

    😦 😦 A nail-biter of an election.

As a reporter & news ‘junkie,’ I love it. But beyond the exciting horse race, the stakes are so high. 😦

  15. 🙂 🙂 🙂 Remembering — reminding myself! — that it is in God alone that we have our real trust and hope. Leaders and nations come and go. But God is our everlasting rock.

  16. 🙂 Our pastor has been preaching a series of sermons on “What we believe”. This morning, it was a semi-final, entitled “I Believe Beliefs Impact Behavior”. It wasn’t a political sermon, but he left us with the impression that we shouldn’t vote for someone who propagates abortion, redefining marriage, etc.
In SS, I mentioned the effects of the Overton Window, that I mentioned on the political thread yesterday, to wit:
The degrees of acceptance of public ideas can be described roughly as:
    1. Unthinkable
    2. Radical
    3. Acceptable
    4. Sensible
    5. Popular
    6. Policy —-This is the world’s method of writing sin out of existence.
We also discussed the state of spirituality in America and judgment. I again pointed out that it has been worse (e.g. before the Great Awakening), and maybe there are still ten good men in Sodom.

😦 I ran over a squirrel this morning. I see lots of dead ones on the streets, but this is the first time I’ve hit one.

🙂 After SS, we went to the house of one of Elvera’s SS members, and her class had a luncheon. A nice time. Someone said I look like Norman Rockwell. I don’t know if that’s a compliment. Elvera said I don’t look like anyone else.

  17. 😦 Poor squirrel. I hit one once, also, it actually haunted me — and I obviously still remember it several years later!

🙂 We’re starting a 4-week class tonight titled “Remedial Christianity” — separating the truths of the faith from some of the stereotypes and caricatures that have become so prevalent (among both believers and nonbelievers), especially in western “evangelicalism.”

😦 Trying to brace for bad news on election night. But I’ve always been a pessimist about elections. Ever since the shocking (to little old naive me) loss of my beloved George McGovern in my youth (first election I voted in, actually). 🙂 Seriously, I was rather crushed.

  18. 🙂 I got the site on my laptop. Couldn’t do that yesterday. The Kid is recovering form illness and now just has a little coughing. Just in time. I need this child out of my house for at least one day.

  19. 🙂 Our mechanic has repeatedly proved himself competent and trustworthy in ways I might have a chance to tell about sometime.

😦 When our car was in for regular service this week our competent and trustworthy mechanic recommend $3K of work (the car is overdue for a number of labor-intensive 100K mile work).

😦 Our enthusiasm for budget discipline had been waning lately and we had not been making much progress on debt retirement or been very careful to preserve an emergency reserve. $2K of urgent car work went on a credit card.

🙂 We got through an extensive catchup of record-keeping and budget review, and found we had more money than we thought so we can get the less urgent $1K of car work done soon.

🙂 Having everything up to date feels really good.

    🙂 AJ is back!

  20. Chas, don’t let them pull your leg. You look like Richard Burton, not Norman Rockwell.

My son, after two months with his driving permit, used the horn for the first time yesterday to scare a squirrel out of his way. He was driving very slowly, and that dumb squirrel just stood up on its hindquarters right in our path and looked at us. A short toot on the horn got it moving. It was very funny, but maybe you had to be there to find it so.
