  1. I called Cindi today and school is canceled today in Ohio. There is a lot of flooding in Stark County today. Sarah, my daughter in Va Beach said that classes at ODU were cancelled today and tomorrow. I read where Gallup suspended their daily tracking poll. The devastation in New York is terrible.

  2. Michelle, funny. I engaged in a back-and-forth on FB earlier today with a fellow journalist (former colleague from years ago) arguing that NO, the media is NOT liberal and conservatives are horrible whiners.

    Arrrg.

But maybe I got him to be a little more open minded about things, who knows. We in the media ignore these criticisms to our own peril (but ignore them we do — or, worse, we often just laugh them off and mock them). Not me “we,” but you know what I mean.

Meanwhile, I spent all day today chasing this story, another follow on the HMS Bounty sinking. So many dead ends trying to get something new.

But I finally got on a roll late in the day when I was able to find a phone # for one of the victim’s local friends and the Coast Guard spokesman from VA (I love him now) called me back.

My editor kept saying, you know all our sister LA papers want to pick this up (in other words, you’d better get something — fingers drumming — and it better be at least marginally interesting).

  3. Ah, and I see at least one of our NoCal papers, the contra costa times, also picked it up. I was sweating bullets over pulling that one together on a wing and a prayer (and countless telephone calls!).

  4. Good for you, Donna!

David Letterman is on with no studio audience. That is pretty historic and weird. I do not care for Letterman, but sometimes I see him because he comes on after what my husband likes to watch.

Letterman just made a joke about the force of Sandy knocking over Chris Christie.

  5. Donna, that is an excellent article. You captured some really good quotes.

Letterman is had someone come on to be interviewed and pretend to be the person who was suppose to be on. It was a guy pretending to be Kate Hudson. Now Jim Cantore is on. This show is more interesting than what I have seen before. Cantore has been involved with about 90 hurricaines. That’s a lot of water over the bridge.

It’s bedtime real soon around here. Goodnight, Mr. Letterman.

  6. Washington Post, like a hibernating bear forced from his cave early, is beginning to stir on Benghazi. Feeling a little vindicated since my brother-in-law’s recommended columnist is the one asking the questions . . .

  7. David Ignatius. The editorial board is also now suggesting a timetable should be published and basic questions asked.

There is some suggestion in the rumor mill that activities were afoot the administration doesn’t want revealed.

    We shall see.

  8. (from Donna J who is on a foreign computer right now): Thanks (after I trolled for affirmation).

AJ still out of power, I see. 😦

Look how funny this is. Can we all relate? (Not sure this will work, but I’ll try another way if it doesn’t):
