What’s news to you?

Sandy, aka Frankenstorm, continues to be the big story.

From Weather.com via TWC

“Our latest projected path takes the center of Sandy into the Northeast coast between Long Island and the Delmarva Peninsula.

However, it is very important to not focus on the center of our projected path map since the major impacts will extend across a wide area well away from where Sandy’s center eventually moves inland.”

And here’s 5 reasons it will be epic, also from TWC

Here’s the advisory from the NHC

It’s caused the cancellation of nearly 8,000 flights, via the WSJ

“Thousands of people were stranded Sunday as U.S. airlines canceled nearly 8,000 flights through Tuesday ahead of the two storm systems converging on the East Coast.

With Hurricane Sandy looming, airlines suspended operations at airports from Washington up to Boston. Carriers canceled 1,270 flights scheduled for Sunday, according to FlightAware.com, a flight-tracking website. As of Sunday night, airlines also canceled 5,900 flights scheduled for Monday and almost 800 flights Tuesday. FlightAware said it expects airlines to cancel more flights scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.  Many travelers will have to wait until Wednesday to fly.”

And let’s hope it doesn’t end up being politicized.

From France24

“A top aide to Barack Obama voiced fears Sunday that Hurricane Sandy could hurt the president’s re-election chances by reducing turnout, as the impending storm forced both candidates to cancel campaign stops.

Republican challenger Mitt Romney received good news in two key swing states, winning the endorsement in Iowa of the main newspaper, the Des Moines Register, and tying Obama in a newly-released poll in all-important Ohio.

But nine days out from the nailbiter November 6 election, all eyes were on Hurricane Sandy and how the potentially catastrophic storm might play out on the neck-and-neck race for the White House.”

And from ABC  ,this should be a given

“The White House has announced President Obama is cancelling some of his campaign travel Monday as Hurricane Sandy is expected to veer on to the East Coast.”

More Here

“As East Coast residents brace for Hurricane Sandy, President Obama visited the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s headquarters this afternoon to receive a briefing on the latest preparations for the storm, expected to make landfall late Monday evening.”

And on a non-storm note…….

Creepy Kids for Obama, or just another reason to not let public schools indoctrinate/educate your kids. Unless you like drones.

And you kids are kinda freaking me out.

😯

Now I need some Steven Crowder to wash that out of my brain.

  1. Bing West today in an NRO article, Obama Emerges from the Fog of War
If Obama ordered the military to “secure our personnel,” where is the order?
    , including this summary:

Surely it is in the president’s best interests to release a copy of his order, which the military would have sent to hundreds in the chain of command. And if the president did not direct the NSC “to do whatever we need to do,” then who was in charge? When the American ambassador is attacked and remains out of American hands for over seven hours as a battle rages — and our military sends no aid — either the crisis-response system inside the White House is incompetent, or top officials are covering up.

This is the best analysis of the Benghazi issue that I have read.

  2. I don’t know if you’ve seen this video by Justice Jeanine, but it sure does pack a punch. It raises some huge questions about why the White House lied about knowing too late about the Benghazi attacks. Turns out they had LIVE FEED the whole time.

  3. “The Children” video is disturbing. But remember the ones in ’08 (though I don’t think they were campaign ads) of kids in militia like formations pledging their allegiance to Barack?

People need to stop using kids to promote candidates, it just all comes off as state-sponsored indoctrination and, well, as AJ rightly said, just downright creepy.

Michelle, thanks for the timeline link, I haven’t had a chance to read the one from Sails yet. But this whole story really does stink the more we learn. I wish there were more initial outrage in the days immediately following, I suspect many of us have become somewhat complacent & almost too accepting when these things happen overseas.

But that our government completely dropped the ball on this one seems to be increasingly clear.

And I’m especially bothered by the lack of attention the media is giving it — as someone rightly pointed out, had this happened under a Republican administration (can you even imagine if this had happened on Bush’s watch before an election?), the media would have been digging & reporting on such a bungled operation nonstop.

    Sigh.

This tells you all you need to know about the fraud journalists are helping push. And yes, I mean Benghazi and Obama. FRAUDS.

““It’s obviously been totally politicized at this point. I lived in a civil war in Beirut for four years. These are incredibly messy situations. People don’t show up with uniforms….You can have a flash mob turned into a planned thing. You can have planned people inside of a flash mob. To me, this is an utterly contrived story in the sense that, ‘this is the end of,’ you know, ‘Obama’s foreign policy.’”
    — New York Times columnist Tom Friedman on NBC’s Meet the Press, October 21.”

““This business about the, you know, the Libya consulate has been like the October Mirage — it really isn’t an issue. And so, once again, tomorrow, Obama is going to have a very strong position because his foreign policy has been largely successful in terms of substance.”
    — Time’s Joe Klein on CBS’s Face the Nation, October 21.”

“FNC’s Greta van Susteren: “The thing that I don’t understand, though, is why won’t the President just be straight? Tell us exactly what’s going on, instead of this bizarre thing over two weeks where he wouldn’t tell us-”
George Stephanopoulos: “But on that point, I want to bring this to Van Jones. Hasn’t the White House been relatively transparent? I mean… we learned over the weekend that even the talking points that Ambassador Rice received on that Sunday morning from the CIA suggested there was no pre-planning.”
    — ABC’s This Week, October 21.”

“Chris Matthews, talking to a crowd waiting for debate: “Okay, Romney. One more Romney. Romney.”
Romney voter, explaining his support: “Romney. He doesn’t cover up scandals in the Middle East.”
Matthews: “What was the scandal that was covered up?”
    Romney voter: “Benghazi.”
    Matthews: “What was the scandal?”
    Romney voter: “Well, I mean-”
Matthews, raising his voice: “Get to it, nail it, what was the scandal?!”
Romney voter: “He said it was the video. It was not about the video.”
Matthews: “Yeah, it was about the video. Read the newspaper. Thank you. Everybody knows it’s about the video. It’s all about the video. Thank you very much.””

Don’t worry Chris, the 8 people who still watch you believe you.

Frauds masquarading as journalists. There’s plenty more too.

  5. It’s actually unfortunate this is happening at the end of an election cycle. 😦 It makes it too easy to pass it off as “politics.”

Does it hurt one side in this election? Yeah, probably. And, yes, I suppose some are seeing it as a political opportunity.

But seriously, putting that aside …

Our embassy was taken over, 4 people — including our ambassador — died on the anniversary of 9/11, the US government (obviously?) completely bungled not only any advance protective measures but failed to respond to the crisis for 7 hours, puts out some (as it turns out) bogus claim that some video made everyone lose their heads and spontaneously riot (what could we do? bad video maker who will be arrested!) …

And this is all a mirage? How exactly do they figure that? It’s a legitimate story that needs investigation and some hard questions.

    Please. NY Times, someone?

  6. I see that Snopes grades the “live video feed” from Benghazi as false. Instead there was a single security guy listening to a live audio feed.

Can anyone verify this? I don’t trust Snopes.

  7. The friend who sent the above has sent me about 25 links, all more damning and troubling than the ones before.

It’s always important to try to see events from a different angle. If the story was as simple as the administration claims, what would they be saying? Mostly this.

If it was far more convoluted than they’ve claimed and they’re trying to protect assets, what would they be saying? Mostly this.

CB asked why Romney has gone silent on Benghazi since he began getting intelligence briefings. That’s a pertinent and good question.

I can think of several reasons: the ambassador’s mother asked politicians to stop politicizing her son’s death. He doesn’t have to say anything, the administration is doing itself damage. If elected, Romney will have to deal with these issues, so he needs to tread carefully. Too much clashing information.

You notice no one is talking about that video anymore.

The area is a powder keg. It behooves everyone to be careful.

But if it doesn’t make sense . . . there may be a good reason why. 😦

  8. Michelle,

    On the Catholic question…….

    Here’s how.

They either buy the lies, or they aren’t really serious about their churches teachings. And ignorance to those same positions is certainly an option. Joe is exhibit A, San Fran Nan is exhibit B to start.

  9. I saw that, too, but couldn’t stomach watching it.

Some of this, frankly, can be left at the poor handling of the priest abuse scandal–completely undermined the authority of the church, for good reason. 😦

I go back to my usual prayer, that truth will be revealed. There are countless fares in the world.

  10. And while the Ambassador’s mother is entitled to her opinion, so are others who disagree. The father of the SEAL is quite clear on that.

Also, again, while I understand the Ambassador’s mom’s feelings, there are bigger issue at stake than her feelings. Answers are necessary, even if painful for some.

““You don’t just passively allow Americans to remain under attack for eight hours at a time when you have forces within range and do nothing. The Secretary of Defense was in the White House at five o’clock within an hour of when the attacks started. He could have told him, “Yes. We have special operations peope and F18 aircraft that could be deployed right away. To have known what he had available, to have known that Americans were under fire, and to have done nothing, is dereliction of duty that I have never seen in a Commander in Chief from a president of any party. Outrageous.””

  11. Well, and “they” are saying the reasons the SEALS died is they were marking the mortar firers–which you only do when you have air support able and ready to “take out” what is being lasar tagged.

I keep thinking of Clear and Present Danger.

  12. The Washington Times has an incisive article, You don’t mess with the CIA, including the following:

By week’s end,[10/28] still fuming over the whole thrown-under-the-bus thing, the CIA appeared to strike again, this time by leaking more information heavily damaging to the White House — and the man in charge of the Situation Room, the president. “Sources on the ground in Benghazi” told Fox News that “an urgent request from the CIA annex for military backup during the attack on the U.S. consulate and subsequent attack several hours later on the annex itself was denied by the CIA chain of command — who also told the CIA operators twice to ‘stand down’ rather than help the ambassador’s team when shots were heard at approximately 9:40 p.m. in Benghazi on Sept. 11.”

Former Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods and two others ignored the absurd order — Americans were under attack — swooped into the consulate and evacuated those stranded there. Mr. Woods and another former Navy SEAL would die seven hours later in mortar attacks.

Sooner or later, as with Watergate, the truth will come out about this leadership fiasco

  13. So, if Obama should happen to win the election and the truth comes out later and he is taken out for his part, does that mean we would have Boener (sp?) for President or would it go over to Romney? Just consider all those wasted election ad and campaign trip dollars.

  14. Yes, Kevin. We would have Biden as President.

Here is an article as to why Obama should not be reelected. It deals with Obamacare and the fact that the Heritage Foundation President says he and his staff are still reading it. Says my D3: “If they don’t know what’s in it, how can they enforce it?” I suppose the answer to that is above Obama’s pay grade?

  15. Benghazi and reporting — there has been quite a bit of coverage from right wing blogs citing evidence from other right wing blogs. The Washington Times’ article on the CIA sourced back to a blog. This is not actual journalism at work. I still think we (the public) don’t have enough information to know what happened and that speculation without a factual basis is unwise.

  16. CB, that Washington Times articled was sourced partly by its own writers and partly by Fox News confidential sources in Benghazi. No blog sources were cited in the article.

Also, some blog sources, such as Hinderaker’s Power Line, are reputable; others are not. One must be discriminating among them.

  17. Speaking of reputable bloggers, Walter Russell Meade has a moving essay on Sandy, Nature and Nature’s God including:

Via Meadia hopes that all our readers survived Hurricane Sandy with their lives intact and their property whole. And more than that, we hope that our readers will take the opportunity that a storm like this offers, step back from their daily lives, and reach out to the Power who plants his footsteps in the sea and rides upon the storm. Getting the right connection with the highest power of all not only gives you a place of refuge when the big storm finally comes; it transforms daily life and infuses ordinary occupations with greater meaning and wonder than you ever understood.
The world needs people who have that kind of strength and confidence. Storms much greater than Sandy are moving through our lives these days: the storms shaking the Middle East, recasting the economy, transforming the political horizons of Asia. It will take strong and grounded people to ride these mighty storms; paradoxically, it is only by coming to terms with our limits and weakness that we can find the strength and the serenity to face what lies ahead.

  18. Don’t, worry about Biden becoming president. The liberal media succeeded in driving Nixon, with good reason, from office. It would never do so with Democrats such as Clinton or Obama.
