What’s interesting in the news today?

1. This should be interesting. Now maybe Congress can see what they’ve been hiding. Pretty sad that a private group had to do their job for them though.

From TownHall  “Thanks to a Freedom of Information Act Lawsuit pursued against the Department of Justice by government watchdog Judicial Watch, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia has ruled a list of documents being withheld from Congress under President Obama’s claim of executive privilege must be turned over. Obama made the claim on the same day Attorney General Eric Holder was voted in criminal and civil contempt of Congress in June 2012.

“This order forces the Obama DOJ, for the first time, to provide a detailed listing of all documents that it has withheld from Congress and the American people for years about the deadly Fast and Furious gun running scandal,” Judicial Watch released in a statement.”

“The documentation DOJ is required to now turn over is a “Vaughn index” of “all requested Fast and Furious materials from a June 2012 Judicial Watch FOIA request.”

““Once again, Judicial Watch has beat Congress to the punch in getting key information about another Obama scandal – this time, the Fast and Furious outrage,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement. “A federal court has ordered the Obama administration to produce information that could, for the first time, provide specific details who in the administration is responsible for Fast and Furious lies to Congress and the American people. This is a battle that put Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, saw Nixonian assertions of executive privilege by Barack Obama, and a hapless Congress in face of all this lawlessness. Finally, we may get some accountability for Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and the countless others murdered as a result of the insanely reckless Obama administration program.””

2. Is the IRS planning a crack down on churches and pastors? Yes, but I’m sure it will only be conservative ones.

From TheBlaze  “The Internal Revenue Service has settled a lawsuit brought by a secular activist group, reportedly agreeing to adopt standards for determining and investigating whether churches and religious organizations have violated restrictions on political activity.

The precise terms of the settlement are still unclear, as is how the IRS will amend its policies to enforce tax law on churches in a way that is palatable to the Freedom From Religion Foundation, which has long decried “rogue political churches.”

The IRS and the Freedom From Religion Foundation filed a joint motion for dismissal July 17, though the court has not officially closed the case, according to Christianity Today.”

““FFRF was asking that the Johnson Amendment be enforced against churches. The IRS has been enforcing the Johnson Amendment against churches since it was passed by Congress in 1954,” Erik Stanley, an attorney at Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative legal firm, told TheBlaze. “The agency took a brief break from enforcing the law against churches in 2009 after its procedures for auditing churches was declared unlawful by a federal district court in Minnesota.””

3. The CIA head is taking fire for snooping on the Senate. Even some Dems are calling for his resignation.

From Politico Two Democratic senators demanded that Central Intelligence Agency Director John Brennan resign on Thursday after revelations that the CIA snooped on Senate computers.

Administration officials briefed the Senate Intelligence Committee’s membership on Thursday afternoon about an inspector general report that revealed CIA officials improperly accessed computers used by Senate staffers to research a 6,700-page report on the agency’s Bush-era interrogation and detention practices.

And while Brennan called Senate Intelligence Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) to apologize for the CIA’s actions, that mea culpa wasn’t enough for Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.), a civil libertarian locked in a difficult reelection campaign against GOP Rep. Cory Gardner, and freshman Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.).”

4. The Army is forcing out 550 Majors. Some will again be notified while serving in combat. Nice way to thank them for their service.

From FoxNews  “About 550 Army majors, including some serving in Afghanistan, will soon be told they have to leave the service by next spring as part of a budget-driven downsizing of the service.

Gen. John Campbell, the vice chief of the Army, acknowledged Friday that telling troops in a war zone that they’re out of a job is a difficult task. But he said some of the soldiers could join the National Guard or the Army Reserve.

The decision to cut Army majors comes on the heels of a move to slash nearly 1,200 captains from the ranks. Army leaders were criticized at the time for giving 48 of them the bad news while they were deployed to Afghanistan.

The Army declined to say how many majors will be notified while they are at the battlefront.”

5. Something to keep in mind next time you hear a story on the Israeli bombing supposed hospitals and schools. Things aren’t always what the press would like you to believe.

From IsraelNationalNews New details have emerged about the booby-trapped clinic explosion that killed three IDF Maglan unit soldiers in Gaza earlier this week – Sergeant First Class Matan Gottlieb, 21, from Rishon LeZion; Sergeant First Class Omar Chai, 21, from Savion; and Sergeant First Class Guy Algranati, 20, of Tel Aviv, hy”d.

Over eighty kilograms of explosives were built into the UN-funded hospital’s walls themselves, it was cleared for publication Thursday – revealing that the clinic itself was built to mask, and perform, potential acts of terror on the IDF.

Moreover, the clinic was built over tens of terror tunnels, according to the report

The UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency) has yet to respond to the revelations, and has still not responded to the deaths of the Israeli soldiers Wednesday.”

Of course they didn’t. They’re already aware though, because this couldn’t happen without them knowing it.

What’s interesting in the news today?

I know. I went a little crazy today. We have political correctness running amok in our govt., and elsewhere. I just wanted to point it out.

1. First up, more PC nonsense from the Pentagon.

From PJMedia  “The nation’s top military brass gathered in the Pentagon auditorium Monday to pull out their pens and sign a ceremonial document vowing to “create an inclusive environment that values diversity and fosters mutual respect and cooperation among all persons.”

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey led the signing of the 2014 Human Goals Charter: “the cornerstone document governing the Defense Department’s fair treatment of people, as well as its diversity and equity programs.”

“Honestly, ladies and gentlemen, having these goals is really very good, but being able to say that this department is the frontrunner in these goals is exactly what we can be proud of today. This has been an unprecedented era of change, truly, since the desegregation of the armed forces in 1948 to the accomplishments of the present,” Wright added. That includes, she said, “fundamental changes in our views of sexual orientation.”

“We have extended the benefits to same-sex spouses of uniformed servicemembers and the department’s civilian employees. We have and we will continue to open military positions to servicemembers who were able to perform those duties, regardless of their gender, and those are just a few of the accomplishments,” Wright continued. “…Diversity is more than race or gender or religion. It’s a variety or mixture of thought. It’s the variety and mixture of ability, background, language, culture and skill. Fairness and dignity and respect and cooperation are among all members of our department, and that is an integral part of our mission accomplishment.”

2. The EPA as well.

From EAGNews As reported at the Brenner Brief, Rev. Lennox Yearwood, president and CEO of the Hip Hop Caucus, “argues often that climate change is the ‘lunch counter moment’ for the younger generation.”

The EPA chief  encouraged black students, who are “most vulnerable to climate change,” to become “champion climate justice advocates” by supporting some of the FDA rules currently being pushed by environmental activists. McCarthy mentioned “greenhouse gas emission standards for new power plants that the agency released last fall, and the rules for existing plants” that are set to be released on June 1.

It is a matter of “equity,” the EPA chief said, as minorities have been “overburdened by pollution and environmental health hazards for far too long…”

“You can’t ensure environmental justice, and we can’t deliver on this president’s promise of opportunity for all,” she continued, “without giving people clean air and clean water and clean land to live on…”

3. Let’s not forget the NBA. As bad as what he said was, this is way over the top. PC run amok.

From CBSNews  “NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced Tuesday Clippers owner Donald Sterling will be suspended for life and fined $2.5 million following racist remarks he made in a recorded audio clip.

Silver spoke to the press at an 11 a.m. news conference from New York, stating he will “do everything in my power” to force the sale of the Clippers.

“The hateful opinions voiced by that man are those of Mr. Sterling. The views expressed by Mr. Sterling are deeply offensive and harmful. That they came from an NBA owner only heightens the damage and my personal outrage,” Silver said. “I am banning Mr. Sterling for life from any association with the Clippers association or the NBA. Mr. Sterling may not attend any NBA games or practices, he may not be present at any Clippers facility, and he may not participate in any business or decisions involving the team.”

_____________________________________________

4. Not to be out PCed, the CBC wants the NBA to have the power to strip ownership from anyone making insensitive racial remarks.

From TheHill  “Congressional Democrats said Tuesday that the NBA’s swift response to racially charged comments by Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was a strong first step, but league limitations might not discourage similar behavior in the future.

The lawmakers, including several members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), suggested the league should wield more authority over individual owners — including more power to strip ownership — while maintaining the capacity to levy larger fines for racially insensitive behavior.”

5. The feminists are getting in on the act. They want a monument on the National Mall. Does anyone doubt they’ll get it?

Just picture it, maybe a statue of the racist, abortion loving Sanger, or something equally tacky….

From Heritage Background: The National Women’s History Museum (NWHM) currently exists online “to raise awareness and honor women’s diverse experience and achievements.” For a number of years the museum and its vocal activists have been advocating for a physical location on the National Mall. H.R. 863 would establish a committee to study the creation of that location. The committee would make recommendations on the structure and governance of the site and explore fund-raising options. NWHM alleges that no taxpayer funds would be used to commission or construct the museum. While the idea of honoring the great female leaders of American History is noble and shared by all, many conservatives are concerned about the leftist ideological implications of this legislation.

Lack of Safeguards. While NWHM claims a nonpartisan agenda, there is no mechanism in place to ensure that the museum is not used as a platform to promote liberal propaganda (even if that museum is still in its infancy). The women typically celebrated by federally monitored or federally commissioned institutions are of the “progressive era” or the “sexual liberation movement” (consider particularly the characters and events promulgated by Smithsonian institutions or nationalized educational programs). These figures glorify the elements of women’s history that have furthered disrespect for human life, destruction of the family unit and general harm to the wellbeing of women.  As the CEO of the Concerned Women for America said in an open letter to Congress:

To indoctrinate American children, who visit the Nation’s capital, with leftist views is so distasteful that within this climate we respectfully decline our own museum.  We would prefer that students visit the other 19 Smithsonian museums and galleries to hear about women’s history than to have one that propagates a false narrative.”

6. The UN and Obama admin are always quick to jump on climate change deniers as un-PC and anti-science. Lying, fudging the numbers, and rewriting the science is apparently the PC thing to do nowadays.

From TheDailyMail  “A top US academic has dramatically revealed how government officials forced him to change a hugely influential scientific report on climate change to suit their own interests.

Harvard professor Robert Stavins electrified the worldwide debate on climate change on Friday by sensationally publishing a letter online in which he spelled out the astonishing interference.

He said the officials, representing ‘all the main countries and regions of the world’ insisted on the changes in a late-night meeting at a Berlin conference centre two weeks ago. Three quarters of the original version of the document ended up being deleted.

Prof Stavins claimed the intervention amounted to a serious ‘conflict of interest’ between scientists and governments. His revelation is significant because it is rare for climate change experts to publicly question the process behind the compilation of reports on the subject.”

7. Meanwhile the EPA is withholding more job crushing regulations until after the mid-terms to aid Democrats. Can’t have them voting against America’s economy right before the election, now can we? Bad optics and all…

From TheFreeBeacon  “The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) delayed issuing a final regulation limiting greenhouse gas emissions for new power plants until after the midterm elections.

The agency pushed back publishing the rule for two months, allowing vulnerable Senate Democrats to avoid a vote on the measure six weeks before voters go to the polls.

President Obama directed the EPA to issue a proposal requiring new power plants to reduce their carbon pollution by “no later than” Sep. 20, 2013. The EPA posted the proposal on its website that day, but did not submit the rule to the Federal Register until Nov. 25, 2013. The rule was then published in the Federal Register on Jan. 8.

Once a rule is published in the Federal Register, agencies are required to finalize it within one year. As a result, the EPA does not have to finish the regulation until Jan. 8, 2015, instead of this September, just weeks before the midterms.

Just like with Benghazi, the IRS, the ObamaCare Individual Mandate, the ObamaCare Employer Mandate, etc., etc….. It’s a pattern with these frauds. 🙄

______________________________________________

8. Why does it matter? Because they’re already regulating the economy to death. This will just make it worse. It’s Cap and Trade, without that messy legislative process.

From Investors.com After years of rapid growth during the Obama administration, the cost of federal regulations is now bigger than the entire economies of all but nine countries in the world.

That’s according to the latest annual report on the regulatory state issued by the free-market Competitive Enterprise Institute, titled “Ten Thousand Commandments.”

Compiling reports of compliance costs from various government agencies and outside sources, author Clyde Wayne Crews found that the “regulation tax” imposed on the economy now tops $1.86 trillion. By comparison, Canada’s entire GDP is $1.82 trillion. India’s is $1.84 trillion.

The problem, Crews notes, is that the combined cost of this “tax” never shows up anywhere in the federal budget — or any other official report — even though it is now bigger than individual and corporate income taxes combined.”

9. And speaking of Benghazi…… another update.

From Mediaite  “On Tuesday, an email obtained by the government watchdog Judicial Watch revealed that a senior American advisor informed then National Security Advisor Susan Rice to emphasize that the deadly 2012 attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya was the result of a spontaneous protest arising from an inflammatory YouTube video. Transcripts later revealed that senior defense officials had informed the administration on the night of the assault that the event was a “terrorist attack.”

Fox’s intel correspondent Catherine Herridge reported that a September 14 emails links White House Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes advised Rice to focus on the YouTube video during her appearances on a variety of Sunday morning news programs:

Among the goals Rhodes outlined for Rice was for her “to underscore that these protests are rooted in an internet video, and not a broader failure of policy.”

Which is exactly what it was. A complete failure of policy. Can’t have folks believing the truth right before an election now can we? 🙄

News/Politics 9-25-13

What’s of interest in today’s news?

Sen. Ted Cruz began filibustering over ObamaCare funding yesterday. In fact, as of 6:15 AM this morning, he still was. Sen. Harry Reid is not happy, and would like to remind you it’s not a real one, it just looks and sounds like one. And “Green Eggs and Ham” was the perfect reading selection for an ObamaCare related filibuster. Like the man said, “We do not like it Sam I am”.

From WeaselZippers  “Cruz Begins “Talking Filibuster,” Vows To Speak “Until I Am No Longer Able To Stand” – Update: Harry Reid Whines: Your Filibuster Isn’t Real – Update: Enters Third Hour – Update: Dingy Complains, This Is “Fake” – Update: Reads “Green Ham And Eggs” On Senate Floor – Update: Passes 7 Hour Mark – Update: 8 Hours And Counting…Update: Approaching 16 Hours, Still Going!

And it’s not just Dems and ObamaCare he’s being critical of.

From TheWashingtonTimes  “In his remarks, he repeatedly took aim at fellow Republicans, urging  them to  join him in voting against limiting debate on a stopgap spending  bill that also  defunds Obamacare. Many Republicans said they will vote  along with Democrats to  proceed with the stopgap bill because as of now  it contains the defunding  provisions.

Mr. Cruz, though, said it is certain Democrats will be able to strip  the  defunding provision with a majority vote later in the process, so  the only  chance to exert influence is early on, when it will take a  60-vote threshold to  even proceed with action.”

_________________________________________________

The House GOP is offering another solution.

From Politico  “The House Republican leadership is seriously considering attaching a one-year  delay of Obamacare’s individual mandate to the Senate bill to avert a government  shutdown, according to senior GOP aides.

If House Republicans decide to go this route, it would all but provoke a  government shutdown, since Senate Democrats might not even schedule a vote on a  bill that includes that provision, Senate leadership staffers say. Even if the  Senate schedules a vote, there might not be time to move the legislation through  the slow-moving chamber.”

Here’s an interesting read on the US terrorists involved in the mall massacre.

From YahooNews  “A heated debate has erupted among Somali refugees in the U.S. over the slaughter of civilians in the Kenyan shopping mall, highlighting what U.S. intelligence officials fear is fertile recruiting ground for Islamic jihadists.”

“When the conversation turned to Kenya, the room erupted in debate in a smattering of broken English and Arabic dialects between the men playing cards and sipping tea on ramshackle furniture.”

“”Al-Shabaab is not just recruiting young Somalis in the U.S. Also around the world,” Abtieon said in an interview outside the din of his arguing countrymen in the market’s back room.”

Bob Beckel has had a stunning moment of clarity. Perhaps some on the left are starting to wise up.

The same can’t be said for major US print news sources. Not surprisingly, they won’t point out the obvious, or the relevant facts. That wouldn’t be politically correct.

From NewsBusters Dare a top newspaper journalist to play connect-the-dots and chances are  he’ll fail miserably – at least with drawing the line between Islam and  terrorism. In Nairobi, Kenya last weekend, Islamist militants took over a  high-end shopping mall and began executing non-Muslims. In Pakistan, Islamist  suicide bombers detonated at a Christian Church on Sunday.

Yet on Monday, September 23, 90 percent of the top ten (via  circulation numbers) daily newspapers’ headlines in the United States  censored the words “Islam” and Muslim” from Nairobi and Pakistan reports. One –  the New York Daily News – didn’t even have a headline for the latest Islamic  terrorist attacks. That’s journalism at its finest.”

Looks like Obama and Kerry have a backdoor route to their gun control utopia in mind.

From TheHill  “Secretary  of State John Kerry is expected to sign an arms trade treaty opposed by the  Senate and the gun lobby as early as Wednesday, and Republicans aren’t happy  about it.

Kerry’s plan to sign the treaty on the margins of the U.N. General Assembly  in New York this week has sparked immediate criticism from GOP  opponents.

“This treaty is already dead in the water in the Senate, and they know it,” said  Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services.  “The Administration is wasting precious time trying to sign away our laws to the  global community and unelected U.N. bureaucrats.”

This one I only have one comment on. It’s about time.

From TheWashingtonTimes  “House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has no  Catholic right to be  granted Communion, said the leading cardinal of the  highest court at the  Vatican.”

“That’s canon law, not opinion, he said. Canon 915 states that  Catholics who are stubbornly contrary “in manifest grave sin  are not to  be admitted to Holy Communion.”

And Cardinal Burke said Mrs. Pelosi fits   the definition.

“Certainly this is a case when Canon 915 must be  applied,” he said,  the Western  Center for Journalism reported. “This is a person who  obstinately, after  repeated admonitions, persists in a grave  sin — cooperating with the crime of  procured abortion — and still  professes to be a devout Catholic.”

News/Politics 3-12-13

What’s interesting in the news today?

Let’s start with one that’s not really surprising to me. The message resonates.

From PJMedia

“This past Sunday the television industry felt the ground shake when the first installment of the History Channel’s five-part miniseries, The Bible, drew a whopping 14.3 million viewers.  To put that in perspective, those are higher ratings than American Idol drew on Fox in the same week.  Higher ratings than the premiere of Celebrity Apprentice on NBC.  And it officially made The Bible the number one scripted cable broadcast of the year.

The news was apparently so astonishing it prompted Business Week to investigate exactly how the basic cable network pulled it off and inspired Time magazine’s resident T.V. critic, James Poniewozik, to ponder whether The Bible’s success will lead to further mainstream forays into religious-themed entertainment.

What’s more astonishing, given how often pro-faith productions put up massive numbers, is that major media outlets still feel the need to run shocked headlines about it.”

I expect the same “phenomenon” when this week’s ratings are released as well.

____________________________________________________

Here’s one as a follow up to Chas’ link yesterday about making it illegal to feed the homeless. I can’t help but think some of this is to limit churches and their outreaches, and to force the homeless to rely on govt. for “charity” like this. I’m also sure many support it because they think it’ll get the homeless outta town.

From Reason.com

“Sometimes Elijah would bring hot food back to the table, not just for himself but also to share with me and with the one or two homeless men who spent much of the day (and, I suspect, the night) on park benches near where he set up shop.

I mention Elijah’s selflessness and generosity toward me and these two men for this startling reason: While Elijah’s act of sharing food with me would be legal virtually anywhere in this country, his decision to feed the homeless men who ate with us could be illegal in many cities today. The reason for this dramatic discrepancy boils down to this fact alone: I slept with a roof over my head, but the others slept under the stars.

Such illogic has led cities like New York City, Philadelphia, and Houston to ban residents from sharing food with the homeless and less fortunate. I called such laws “unconstitutional, discriminatory, and wrongheaded” in a column I wrote over the summer. They remain so.

But since I wrote that widely read column in June, I’ve noticed a welcome pattern emerging. These unjust laws are under attack.”

Good, they should be.

____________________________________________________

Here’s one I believe DrivesGuy has linked to before. It seems it’s finally getting some “mainstream” coverage. So is it govt. preparing for the worst case scenario? Or is it a backdoor gun restriction attempt. There’s an ammo shortage nowadays. If the govt. buys it up, you can’t.

From Forbes

“The Denver Post, on February 15th, ran an Associated Press article entitled Homeland Security aims to buy 1.6b rounds of ammo, so far to little notice.  It confirmed that the Department of Homeland Security has issued an open purchase order for 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition.  As reported elsewhere, some of this purchase order is for hollow-point rounds, forbidden by international law for use in war, along with a frightening amount specialized for snipers. Also reported elsewhere, at the height of the Iraq War the Army was expending less than 6 million rounds a month.  Therefore 1.6 billion rounds would be enough to sustain a hot war for 20+ years.  In America.

Add to this perplexing outré purchase of ammo, DHS now is showing off its acquisition of heavily armored personnel carriers, repatriated from the Iraqi and Afghani theaters of operation.  As observed by “paramilblogger” Ken Jorgustin last September.”

“Spending money this way is beyond absurd well into perverse.  According to the AP story a DHS spokesperson justifies this acquisition to “help the government get a low price for a big purchase.” Peggy Dixon, spokeswoman for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center:  “The training center and others like it run by the Homeland Security Department use as many as 15 million rounds every year, mostly on shooting ranges and in training exercises.””

So that’s 100 years worth of ammo.

____________________________________________________

Here’s another that’s a good followup to the Harvard Anti-Semitic story from last week. It’s OK for some leftys when Jews are the recipients. But if you dare mention any facts against Islam, you’re a racist bigot.

From PJMedia

“Every year, college campuses across the country hold a festival of hatred aimed at Jews and the Jewish state. Israeli Apartheid Week has become notorious for the targeted harassment of Jewish students, support for Hamas, and even physical violence.

This year the David Horowitz Freedom Center responded to Israeli Apartheid Week with Islamic Apartheid Week. Unlike Israeli Apartheid Week, which is based on a lie, Islamic Apartheid Week addresses the sexism, homophobia, and religious bigotry threatening minorities in the Muslim world.

To promote Islamic Apartheid Week, the Freedom Center attempted to place an advertisement in 40 college papers.”

“Yet instead of listening to their stories, the campus culture of political correctness drowned out their voices. Further, they felt the need to apologize for allowing our ad to run, for allowing their stories to be told.”

Let’s face it, some on the left will never stop being apologists for the barbarism when it’s motivated by Islam.

The leftists and their enabling of this behavior is just as obvious at the UN, where the worst human rights violators hold sway on the Human Rights Council. Here’s an educational piece on the matter, from Prager University.

What’s interesting out there today?

Open Thread, you pick.

Here’s a few to start off with.

And remember folks, this is who our govt. is backing. We’re aiding them. Aid which they will use to further oppress people like these.

From FoxNews

“Libyan Islamists detained 48 Egyptian Christians in Benghazi last week,  torturing them and using acid to burn off tattoos of the cross, according to  family members.

The Christians, who are peddlers, were arrested by Islamist Salafists in  Benghazi, who said they had Christian icons at their marketplace stalls,  according to MideastChristianNews The men were later reportedly freed and await deportation, but their family  members back home told the Egyptian press they were abused while held, initially  on charges of proselytizing.

“When the residents of the village told me that he was imprisoned, I embraced  his sons and told them they would not see their father again,” Fardoos Salib,  the mother of Coptic farmer Atif Kamel, told Egyptian newspaper al-Watan.   “I prayed in the church, until God responded and he was released, as God  knows our conditions.””

Meanwhile, those responsible for the deaths of US citizens and an attack on a US Embassy sip drinks, walking free and unmolested.

This one annoys me. I’d tell ’em to go pound sand, but probably in more colorful language. 😯

From Reuters

“A United Nations investigator called on the United States on Monday to publish its findings on the CIA’s Bush-era program of rendition and secret detention of terrorism suspects.

Ben Emmerson, U.N. special rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights while countering terrorism, voiced concern that while President Barack Obama’s administration has rejected Central Intelligence Agency practices conducted under his predecessor George W. Bush, there have been no prosecutions.

“Despite this clear repudiation of the unlawful actions carried out by the Bush-era CIA, many of the facts remain classified, and no public official has so far been brought to justice in the United States,” Emmerson said in a report to the U.N. Human Rights Council, which he will address on Tuesday.”

Sure, it’s satire now, but you just gave them an idea. I can hear it now, “It’s for the kids!”

(Sigh) 😦

From CafeHayek.com

“In a bold effort to improve the educational fortunes of students who perform at academic levels significantly below the average of their peers, Congress has mandated a minimum grade to be assigned to each student in each course taught at any school in the country.  Starting in September, it shall be unlawful for any teacher, professor, or instructor charged with assigning course grades to assign to any student a grade lower than C-.”

“Sponsors of the Fair Academic Standards Act decry the injustice that occurs each time a student earns a low grade, such as a D or an F.  ”It’s impossible for students with ‘D’s and ‘F’s on their transcripts to succeed as they deserve in life,” remarked Sen. Bernie Franken, an Independent from Elitia.  ”This law ensures that no American will ever again suffer that hardship.”

Opponents of the Act worry that the requirement of a minimum grade will prompt schools to refuse to enroll students whose academic preparation or skills aren’t yet sufficient to enable them actually to earn good grades.”

Admit it, it’s not really a stretch to think this could be is coming.
