Psalm 45

¹My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

² Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.

³ Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.

⁴ And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.

⁵ Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.

⁶ Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

⁷ Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

⁸ All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.

⁹ Kings’ daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.

¹⁰ Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house;

¹¹ So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.

¹² And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.

¹³ The king’s daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.

¹⁴ She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.

¹⁵ With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king’s palace.

¹⁶ Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.

¹⁷ I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.

Psalm 44:1-8

¹We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.

² How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.

³ For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.

⁴ Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.

⁵ Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

⁶ For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

⁷ But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

⁸ In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

Psalm 43

¹Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation: O deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man.

² For thou art the God of my strength: why dost thou cast me off? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

³ O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.

⁴ Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God.

⁵ Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Psalm 41

¹ Blessed is he who considers the poor; The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.

² The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies.

³ The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed.

⁴ I said, “Lord, be merciful to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.”

⁵ My enemies speak evil of me: “When will he die, and his name perish?”

⁶ And if he comes to see me, he speaks lies; His heart gathers iniquity to itself; When he goes out, he tells it.

⁷ All who hate me whisper together against me; Against me they devise my hurt.

⁸ “An evil disease,” they say, “clings to him. And now that he lies down, he will rise up no more.”

⁹ Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me.

¹⁰ But You, O Lord, be merciful to me, and raise me up, That I may repay them.

¹¹ By this I know that You are well pleased with me, Because my enemy does not triumph over me.

¹² As for me, You uphold me in my integrity, And set me before Your face forever.

Psalm 40

¹ I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.

² He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.

³ He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.

⁴ Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!

⁵ You have multiplied, O Lord my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.

⁶ In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted, but you have given me an open ear.Burnt offering and sin offering  you have not required.

⁷ Then I said, “Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me:

⁸ I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”

⁹ I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; behold, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O Lord.

¹⁰ I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation.

¹¹ As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain your mercy from me; your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me!

¹² For evils have encompassed me beyond number; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I cannot see; they are more than the hairs of my head; my heart fails me.

¹³ Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me! O Lord, make haste to help me!

¹⁴ Let those be put to shame and disappointed altogether who seek to snatch away my life; let those be turned back and brought to dishonor who delight in my hurt!

¹⁵ Let those be appalled because of their shame who say to me, “Aha, Aha!”

Psalm 39

¹ I said, “I will guard my ways, Lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle, While the wicked are before me.”

² I was mute with silence, I held my peace even from good; And my sorrow was stirred up.

³ My heart was hot within me; While I was musing, the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue:

⁴ “Lord, make me to know my end, And what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am.

⁵ Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah

⁶ Surely every man walks about like a shadow; Surely they busy themselves in vain; He heaps up riches, And does not know who will gather them.

⁷ “And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.

⁸ Deliver me from all my transgressions; Do not make me the reproach of the foolish.

⁹ I was mute, I did not open my mouth, Because it was You who did it.

¹⁰ Remove Your plague from me; I am consumed by the blow of Your hand.

¹¹ When with rebukes You correct man for iniquity, You make his beauty melt away like a moth; Surely every man is vapor. Selah

Psalm 37-27-40

²⁷ Depart from evil, and do good; And dwell forevermore.

²⁸ For the Lord loves justice, And does not forsake His saints; They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.

²⁹ The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell in it forever.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue talks of justice.

³¹ The law of his God is in his heart; None of his steps shall slide.

³² The wicked watches the righteous, And seeks to slay him.

³³ The Lord will not leave him in his hand, Nor condemn him when he is judged.

³⁴ Wait on the Lord, And keep His way, And He shall exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a native green tree.

³⁶ Yet he passed away,and behold, he was no more; Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found.

³⁷ Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; For the future of that man is peace.

³⁸ But the transgressors shall be destroyed together; The future of the wicked shall be cut off.

Psalm 37:12-26

¹² The wicked plots against the just, And gnashes at him with his teeth.

¹³ The Lord laughs at him, For He sees that his day is coming.

¹⁴ The wicked have drawn the sword And have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To slay those who are of upright conduct.

¹⁵ Their sword shall enter their own heart, And their bows shall be broken.

¹⁶ A little that a righteous man has Is better than the riches of many wicked.

¹⁷ For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, But the Lord upholds the righteous.

¹⁸ The Lord knows the days of the upright, And their inheritance shall be forever.

¹⁹ They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, And in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

²⁰ But the wicked shall perish; And the enemies of the Lord, Like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish. Into smoke they shall vanish away.

²¹ The wicked borrows and does not repay, But the righteous shows mercy and gives.

²² For those blessed by Him shall inherit the earth, But those cursed by Him shall be cut off.

²³ The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.

²⁴ Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the Lord upholds him with His hand.

Psalm 37:1-11

¹ Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.

² For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb.

³ Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

⁴ Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

⁵ Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.

⁶ He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday.

⁷ Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.

⁸ Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret—it only causes harm.

Psalm 36

¹The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.

² For he flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful.

³ The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good.

⁴ He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.

⁵ Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

⁶ Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O Lord, thou preservest man and beast.

⁷ How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

⁸ They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

⁹ For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

¹⁰ O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.

¹¹ Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.

¹² There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.
