  1. Good morning. Per Janice’s questions about pen: I do have pens and pencils in most rooms of my house. I also have nose tissues in every single room. Too many allergies to not have them handy.

We’ve recently had several funerals but missed some. I had an uncle pass away and a sister-in-law whose funeral we can watch online, since it is too far to travel right now. I sometimes think senior meals are more at funerals than any other place. I sure know a lot of seniors who are very often attending them. What an interesting time of life.

What type of things does your churches do for pastor appreciation? We have always had a cake after church and then people could give whatever cards or gifts in appreciation. The last year the deacon board set up a monthly signup sheet for people to pick a month to do something to show appreciation. Examples were to invite the pastor and his wife to your home for a meal or to a restaurant or give restaurant gift cards etc. From the pulpit certain gifts have been mentioned as greatly appreciated while others are not acknowledged personally. It was suggested people could join with others to do something special instead of signing up alone. I am wondering what your thoughts are about this practice or if you have ever heard of such a thing.

  2. Good morning!

I had an early Zoom with a judge to do a swearing in on my brother’s duties left to me. Glad it went well although at first I thought I had lost the email with the link. I imagine the ease of doing this five minute process on my phone was made possible by Covid which took us all into Zoomland.

Kathaleena, that is a timely question about pastor appreciation. I have felt there has been a bit of pushiness from the pulpit that appreciation needs to be shown. Last year, in November, I handed out cards that read something like “It is the season for GRATITUDE” which were Thanksgiving cards that I had in my boxed cards. I enclosed a 25.00 check in each card for three pastors and two Sunday school leaders. I had not been able to give to the group fund so I handled it like that. I do not know what to do this year. Everything feels so awkward since I only engage by calling in on Sundays for a class where I don’t know any members and I listen online.to the service. I still love all the church does and support it with tithing.

  3. What a day.

On the way back from the Rheumatologist this morning I ran something over, heard a pop. By the time I got home the tire pressure light was on.

My son came and jacked it up, took the lugnuts off, and the tire was frozen, wouldn’t move.

Called AAA, they came and got it off and the spare on. Going to the dealer tomorrow for a new tire, the whole is huge.

    Fun stuff.

  4. Morning! A lovely warmish fall day here and I do have the windows open for some fresh air!

Yesterday my friend and I ended up taking a drive up to Cripple Creek and the Aspens were in all their glory…I didn’t take one photo!! She didn’t want to stop or get out (what’s the point then!) so we spent a couple hours just driving, talking and looking through the car windows! Conversation was wonderful although we didn’t solve the problems of this world.

Pastor appreciation month to me can be a bit much. While we appreciate our young pastor we show him our appreciation throughout the year. In many instances it becomes looking at the man and not the message. I once heard a well know “pastor” delivering a message to a group of “pastors” which was broadcast over the radio. He referred to themselves as leading the “dumb sheep” and they all burst out in laughter. He went on describing “parishioners” in derogatory terms. “What would they do without their pastor?!” He was emphasizing their level of importance in ministry and calling. That is the last time I listened to him as I viewed him in a whole new light sadly…
