  1. October has arrived. And it’s Friday. It seems Trump is losing favor with the Conservative cartoonists.

As to yesterday’s discussion about churches: the church is the people, not the building. Those older buildings may be beautiful, but if the Lord is not glorified in the congregation, it might as well be a movie theater. A congregation with people following Christ can meet in a storefront or a magnificent building. Those architectural masterpieces in Europe are wonders of human ingenuity, but are filled with spiritually dead congregations, for the most part.

That said, I agree that one should not see the coffee shop and bookstore as soon as he enters the building. It reminds me of Jesus cleansing the Temple of the money changers.

  2. It is indeed Friday and the weather outside is par excellence!! Perfect temps blue skies…

Ran into town yet again to pickup my sunglasses…this pair is much better than the ones they made before! Thankful….

I suppose being reared in the local church as a child those memories are comforting to me. We walked two long blocks to church…it was made of stone and had stain glass windows. I can still recall the scent of old pews and wood. It was an old German church…Evangelical United Brethren. So now when I enter an old church it brings back all those memories. The Baptist church downtown where my Father in law and Mother in law were married (our oldest daughter was married there as well) has such an enveloping sense.

Our church meets in a high school atrium. Folding chairs and glaring overhead skylights but the believers are faithful. The Word is faithfully handled by our young Pastor.

  3. For families with children in a smaller church, it can really feel like an extension of one’s own home when it is close by. I still feel a closeness to the Methodist Church building where I spent many hours as an active member, where son did Cub Scouts and 4-H, and homeschool group, where he did his Eagle Scout project, where I helped yearly with VBS, where husband did choir and many practices, where husband did financial statements, and where I taught as a preschool teacher. Such a big part of our lives. It is the only church building I grew attached to.
