Janice, we have had a cedar deck for a few decades now. We will replace it with boards again, but perhaps something else for the rails. It held up so well until it was neglected by not being washed, sealed and stained as often as necessary. I am so looking forward to having it done. It will probably happen in the spring according to the carpenter.

Cedar has such a wonderful fragrance. Our tree always has that light smell after a heavy downpour that hit hard enough to release its goodness.

Tonight the smoke drift smells like cheery pipe tobacco, an improvement over the skunk grass/weed smell.
