  1. We have a beautiful, though, cold day before the next storm moves in. We shouldn’t get much snow if the storm moves the way the weather forecasters are predicting right now. Praying those of you in the storm’s path stay safe.

  2. The storms are so many!

Son and I had a good visit with my brother yesterday. His pastor visited while we were there and he stayed quite a while. It really encouraged my brother to have several visitors and a call from a neighbor. He seemed more like himself.

  3. Morning! It is the calm before the storm here. Winds blow in this afternoon with plummeting temps. Tomorrow morning to be very wintry! Crazy weather everywhere

Thankful you could visit brother and son Janice! Continued prayers 🙏

Praying for His direction and protection over us all

  4. Happy spring for those who have it!

Ours has been as variable as any I’ve ever seen. Days of super heavy rain matched off with bright blue skies, then highs around freezing followed by days in the upper seventies. Wildflowers were late getting here and still haven’t shown up most places I look for them, and I’m not yet seeing migrating birds (just one towhee), but I’ve seen basking turtles and one pair of wood ducks.

But nesting season is in full blast, with some really good species in play. I’ve seen a chickadee building its nest (hammering out a tree hole with that tiny little beak) and made note of just where it was so I can find it again in a few days. I know where the red-shouldered hawks nested last year and though I’m not sure they’re renesting in the same nest, they’re in the vicinity at least. I’ve seen two pairs of eagles on their nests (both are unfortunately an hour’s drive away, but I hope to see the juveniles.a time or two anyway). Great blue herons are back on their nests in the heronry. I’ll check the red-tailed hawk nest tomorrow when there’s no meter to feed and fewer people around (I try to be discreet around nests, but my big lenses call attention).

But the most fun by far is a great horned owl nesting near a trail (two owlets about ready to leave the nest, one has already taken at least one flight) and in a nearby tree a pileated woodpecker diligently hammering out his nest. I’ve never seen an owl nest and have only seen one nest of a pileated woodpecker. The good news is the woodpecker has continued to nest even while people gather to watch the owls (and the owl nest is farther from the trail), so I think I’ll be able to watch the woodpecker nest in the weeks to come without distressing the parents. (And later in the season I’ll be checking the spot where green herons nested last year and where orioles nest to high in the tree to photograph but still are flying around.)

I do so love spring and summer!

  5. Ah, the sounds of birds in the spring! I commented about that to Art as he left for work this morning. Their lovely sounds filled the air. I heard an unfamiliar one this past week and wondered what it was.

I miss walking over at the boardwalk with son since my knee is messed up. That is where we see the herons here.

  6. We just returned from our three mile walk in the neighborhood. Winds are picking up and lots of stellar jays squawking! The woodpeckers are pecking furiously on the trees … and hopefully not houses!

The neighbors across the road are moving to NC and the realtor is hosting an open house…quite a few showed up to look at the house!

I’m having issues below my knee too Janice. It’s making it difficult to go too far on my walks. I’m totally out of gas when I return!
