I hope the side effects from the shot clear up quickly, Janice. During the hurricane that did such damage in New Orleans someone who was from the Philippines shared that they heated food using a metal coffee can and candle. I was thinking about the fact that we no longer get metal coffee containers. Those are always what I used for an emergency kit in our cars. You could put in a candle, matches, tea and food and whatever. I am not sure what people use these days.
I found tea candles at Kroger and stocked up. Then I found Sterno cooking fuel and charcoal briquettes with lighter fluid at Ace Hardware so we are set. Tea candles and stereo to use inside and the grill outside.
I had not seen Pumpkin in three days but at 7 a.m. she was by the door for breakfast and came back by for lunch. Oh, dear! I thought I would be free of worry over this kitty during the storm. I hope it has a warm place for overnight. I have a box with a lined flannel jacket in it out of the wind on our porch. It has never been in the box. I think it is worried about being cornered in there from the one time I picked it up and placed it in there. It immediately jumped out.
My knee has been okay from the shot but so far I still can’t go up the stairs as I used to. I do keep that leg straight so the other leg is doing double duty. The knee had some slight swellling before the shot and most of that is gone.
It is 20 degrees here and the sun has been out a couple of times. 1/2 in of fluffy flakes which blow off easily. I don’t believe the 3-7 predicted will happen⛄️🫤
Praying for all those in the path of ice and deep snow. And for your knee Janice. Heating pad?
I have cooked most all the day and night to stock up on things to pull out and heat using either the tea candles or sterno if we lose power. I still need to clean the grill but ran out of time.
I think we had two or three inches by the time I went to bed about midnight. But when I looked out this morning, I said, “Whoa!” We’ve had about a foot and it’s still coming down. I talked to a friend from outside Nashville last night (they have a log cabin, with a fireplace, out in the country); she said they’d had about two inches of sleet and the freezing rain was starting. She’s in a picturesque spot for snow, but no place is picturesque for that.
They finally just now cancelled our church service (they’d cancelled everything but the morning service last night).
Our church announced a couple of days ago that we would be closed today.
My daughter in TN shared video and photos of the snow, ice and branches falling or down. Power has been flickering so far, but no one would be surprised if it goes out.
We didn’t get our propane stove on early enough and our electric heat was shut off, so it is 63 in here. Mumsee would think that is normal. Miss hearing from her.
12 degrees and a bit of snow. Some icy spots on the way to church but doable. Snow coming in now very light with maybe an inch predicted. Praying y’all stay safe and snug inside! 🙏
We got 3 or 4″. Church canceled. We tried to live stream other churches we know, including one in Denton, TX. All seemed to be canceled because of weather.
Praying you all stay safe and warm during this storm. Ice is just awful and so heavy.
We were -33F on the way to church but the highway was bare! So thankful for that. Our last trip to town was a nightmare coming home. 85km/h wind gusts and polished ice on the highway. So slick the wind just slid the car in front of us into the ditch – there was nothing she could do and we couldn’t even stop to help. The highway was closed behind us. I’m still trying to unclench my jaw from that drive.
Good morning to all! Brrr! Hope you are all warm and cozy.

Not to be cynical, but the only metal cannister we have is our kitchen counter recycle bin . . . Sigh.
I did save some metal coffee cans somewhere, but we’re not having the heating problem, of course, in CA.

The small cans (11.3oz.) of decaf coffee that Nightingale buys me from Aldi are metal. I don’t know about the larger cans.
(I start the morning with one regular cup of coffee – using a flavored K-cup – and then switch to decaf for a couple more.)

it’s 36° with freezing rain spitting out so I guess it begins now.

Trees have covering of ice. We will get rain later. The temp is the big question when that happens . . . we are so close to 32°but could be above.

Our church moved the service to last night, since the snow was to start in the early AM.
We’ve got over a foot of snow already, it’s turned to a mix now, and we have another 10 hours of precipitation to go. Yay.

So what else can you do but cook a whole chicken for the snowed in family?
🐔 mashed 🥔 and 🥕
Once the snow stops we’re to have tempswith a high of below 20 during the day, 0 and below at night for the rest of week.
Staying warm is the plan.

Yeah it’s still coming down and still piling up. The wind is causing drifting now.
But at least the whole house smells like roasting chicken.

AJ, I like that your church was flexible and had church on Saturday night. Very wise.
