  1. It was nice to hear from some folks we haven’t heard from for a while. There are lots of fellow introverts among us. 🙂

As far as venison, my husband grew up eating mostly that. He no longer hunts and has no desire to eat it anymore. We have one SIL who is an avid hunter, along with his two grown children. They eat a lot of venison and fish they catch. Venison can taste very different, depending on the age of the deer and where they graze. Those who graze more in fields can taste much better than those who who graze on trees, IMO.

It is interesting that the early explorers had to add fat to their diets, too. They could not live solely on venison.

We enjoyed a men’s chorus yesterday afternoon. The concert was at a church we used to attend. It was interesting to see how the interior of the church has changed. The library (which I was in charge of) is no more. It was difficult to get anyone to use it much way back when. That was true of two church libraries I was in charge of. I can only imagine how little use they would get these days of the internet. It is sad that so many good books are not read. The exception may be in prison.

  2. Catching up.

Welcome back, Kare. Sad that one person can cause long-time employees to quit. I’ve had my share of bossy, legalistic coworkers and supervisors. So sad for your dog. Losing a beloved pet is almost as sad as losing a human family member.

As for negative people – Quote positive scripture when they try bringing you down.

  3. today is my shopping day which means heading to the cold foggy valley. The fog makes it so cold. But first I have to remember how to use a glue gun to put together the felt nativity sets the children made

  4. Oh, I do remember those days, RKessler, of trying to get son motivated to do his schoolwork and get along with it already! Not an easy do for homeschooling parents. I never remember AJ saying he had that trouble with his daughter.

  5. Jo, we have been having the cold mixed with fog or mist. It has been rather ugly weather hanging out in the 40s.

Thank you, Peter, for the thought of using Scripture as a counter. In Sunday school yesterday we went through the verses Jesus used when tempted by the devil in the desert. We had an interesting discussion about how Jesus was tempted. Art made a comment about Jesus wanting to do the things (as we do) when faced with temptation but He resisted unlike what happens to many people who fall to temptation. The leader said that Jesus did not fall either in the flesh or in His mind. I had never thought of that before.

  6. Kathaleena, I love venison. I wish my brother would share again what the hunter who hunts on brother’s property gets. He has shared in the past, but not last year. We don’t know any other hunters.

I once helped a friend get the meat off of a deer leg she had been given by one who hunted on her property. What a messy chore. We did not know what we were doing. I imagine RKessler would have laughed at us.

  7. Janice, the first time we butchered a moose, we took a book out of the library with cow cuts diagrams – we figured the muscles would be about the same. This time husband watched a bunch of YouTube videos. Let’s just say everything went smoother this time. Amazing what information we have access to nowadays that we didn’t when we were younger.

Tim’s first deer was a massive buck and we took it to a butcher who was terrible (left fat and bones in) and I think that has turned me off completely from venison. We learned if we want meat, don’t look for the big antlers.

  8. This year we’re giving practical Christmas gifts to our 2 adult children and their spouses.

Elizabeth and Isaac are getting tires later this week, Kim and Allen got a battery today.

Not an exciting one, but one that will save them money of their own.

They all seem fine with it. 😁

  9. Karen, I went back and read what you wrote about Koot. I am so sorry that you have to go through that we went through in the spring and summer with Miss B. It is a difficult thing to see the phases of decline. I had never been through it with an indoor kitty. And I am sorry to hear about what has happened at the camp.

I can understand how you got turned off to deer meat after that experience. I think I would enjoy the moose meat, too. I imagine it has a bit of a bold flavor. Watching the videos is ever so helpful. My 95 y/o friend learned to make sourdough bread by watching videos and doing as directed.

  10. All of my butchering skills came by trial and error and books on homesteading.

I have heard that moose is quite mild. I love venison. It was the only red meat we had for many years.

Losing a much loved pet is a sad process. We mourn with you.

AJ, I think those are great gifts. We share meat with the kids for Christmas. Much better than dust catchers.
