  1. Happy Fixin’ Day! So much to do. It’s been a few years since we’ve done Thanksgiving here. I hope most of the cooking will be done today. I told Art that we will have leftovers for Thanksgiving, lol. Heat and Eat (After giving thanks), and then go take a hike to burn calories.

  2. I am enjoying time with the grands. My college grand will be driving home today in this nasty weather. I am grateful for the snowplow drivers and safety people who help us in this weather. Just so much to be grateful for.

Nj, so sad to hear about that accident. I have a road in mind that has the same issue–numerous accidents caused by lack of patience. I just heard that a second moose was just struck by a car, too, on that road. They are almost impossible to see in the dark.

  3. Good 21 degrees of a morning yall! And I pray today brings much blessing just like Kizzie greeted us with this morning! And I love the Happy fixin’ day reference cause that’s exactly what it is here! Pumpkin pies, sweet potato casserole, veggie casserole, jello and pumpkin bread will all be prepared ready today!

Praying for your college grandson Kathaleena…so thankful you can gather with them!

The Mom of the two children killed and one fighting for her life in the ICU in Denver wrote a message to the community. It was her ex husband who was taking the children for the holiday along with his fiancé’s children in the car. This Mom is a Social worker and works with Headstart in the Springs…she was such a dedicated parent to her children. The 31 year old driver of the car causing the wreck had carjacked a woman and stole her car an hour earlier in the Denver area. This is the third stolen car incident ending in death of innocents on this road in recent years. A two lane country hwy with no shoulders…and no regular patrolling of law enforcement. We personally have had many near misses of head on crashes on that road.

  4. NJ, that’s hard to read about, and I can’t imagine experiencing it. We have a road that goes to a tourist town half an hour from us, and I was driving on it a few weeks ago, traveling comfortably above the speed limit (5-8 miles above, not below) and the car behind me got impatient enough that it started around me on a double-yellow line, saw that there was a car coming toward us and pulled back behind me for a few seconds, and then went around. Seriously, what’s so important to risk several people’s lives? And in this case to steal a car and then kill a bunch of people? Meanwhile they give harsh penalties to people who kill someone in self-defense but hardly punish criminals with multiple crimes on their records.

  5. So, things have been touch and go in my house the last few weeks (my husband’s health has caused us to make quite a few medical trips), and though we are supposed to host Thanksgiving dinner (more or less . . . one daughter and family are coming in Friday and staying through Sunday, and the other is coming with her boyfriend just for a few hours Saturday), I wasn’t confident enough to start thawing a turkey early in the week, and honestly I think a big meal on Saturday will really just be too tricky when we’re also trying to do gifts that day. So even though I have a turkey in the freezer, I ended up buying a turkey breast too, so I don’t have some weird issue like the turkey thawed in the fridge and needing to be cooked but hubby and I spending a few hours in the emergency room.

That also allows me to offer an untraditional Thanksgiving: I’m going to cook the turkey breast but also thaw and heat the leftover beef stew (since our son-in-law favors beef and my husband can’t really eat it anymore) and heat a big slice of ham I got, and so people can have their choice of three different meats. Our daughter-in-law can’t eat wheat anymore, our granddaughter didn’t touch anything “traditional” last year except the pie, my husband isn’t eating much variety himself, and our potential future son-in-law won’t be here till Saturday and seems from what I have seen to be a super-picky eater. So I’ll offer choices and they can eat what they want or make a sandwich, I don’t care. I do have most of the traditional sides plus lots of beverages and three kinds of bread, and this year I don’t plan to be stuck in the kitchen for the whole short visit. I’d like to be able to take the grandkids on a walk and to the playground, and I haven’t been able to do that while I’ve been focused on cooking and cleaning up, and then Saturday focused on unwrapping gifts but also offering another meal or two. (Son-in-law traditionally cooks Saturday breakfast for everyone and I can sleep in, not being much of a breakfast eater myself.)

Oh, and for others like me who aren’t sure exactly what will happen for the holiday, apparently it’s OK to cook a turkey from frozen after all. Had I known that, I might have gone that route, though my option will probably be easier. Here’s a link: https://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-cook-a-completely-frozen-turkey-for-thanksgiving-225796

  6. The turkey is cooked and put away. I plan to make salmon fillets tonight. I am enjoying the frozen packages of two portions of wild caught Sockeye salmon. I can split one portion between Art and me. I put some oil on it and season with a mix of celery seed, black pepper, basil, and curry powder. After putting that on, I lay slices of garl8c over it, and finally add a topping of soy sauce. I bake at 400° for 25 m8nutes. It is very good.

  7. Cheryl that sounds like a lovely array of choices. I am certain they will find themselves well fed! The grandchildren will mostly recall the walk and playground most of all!❣️

And I am glad to know a frozen turkey can be cooked. I took my 12 pounder out on Sunday placing it in the fridge to thaw but it still might have frozen parts… or so it feels. Adjust cooking time and all is well!

  8. Cheryl and I went to a favorite local restaurant and picked up our Thanksgiving plates. Heat and eat. Turkey, stuffing, mashed and sweet taters, green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, and desert, apple pie, and lemon cake.

We were also invited last minute to a friend from church’s house. We declined going for dinner, but will bring a nice fruit tart and join them for dessert.

Liz and Isaac are in York visiting his family thru Sat. They’re leaving right from work at midnight tonight, so traffic should be lessened.

  9. I like your idea of picking up a heat and eat meal Aj! And since it is a known favorite restaurant all the better! Enjoy you two…and we pray over Liz and Isaac for safe travel to and fro…

I don’t believe I have ever had one of those type of oranges Jo but they sound amazing. Perfect gift for the host!

I told my two here that we will eat around 1:30…daughter asked what we would be having for dinner then?! I told her pumpkin pie and that she may forage for leftovers in the fridge if she dares to be hungry!
