  1. Americans suffer because of illegals.

    It’s never a victimless crime.

But at least Trump is trying to fix it, unlike dems and cheap labor RINOs.

“JD VANCE: “Young people are saying, ‘housing is way too expensive.’ Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegals… What we’re doing is trying to make it easier to build houses… we’re also getting [them] out of our country.”

  2. This is the mess that Dems rammed down America’s throat, shut down govt to get it refunded, and refuse to take themselves.

This is massive failure that is Obamacare.

“Since 2011, healthcare has increased 52%. The cost of everything else has increased 49%. So, healthcare indexes a little higher than other goods and services, but not much. However, health insurance premiums have increased 145%. The top insurance companies’ revenues went from $245 billion to $1.1 trillion, and net profit has been $375 billion. Truth should matter. If you want solutions to these real problems, start with honesty. Obamacare has failed in its stated goals and objectives while making insurance companies and their stock holders wealthy on the back of the American taxpayer.”

  3. FIRE (finance, insurance, real estate ) has been massively inflationary in the last decade.

Migrants may put pressure on rent but not the price of houses. Real estate hedge funds / speculators such as Blackrock are mainly to blame. In addition, people’s life savings and/or retirement funds are essentially the family home and thus its political imperative to maintain or increase its value. Nobody wants the real estate bubble to burst.

The basic concept of the ACA — insurance exchange or market place – is derived from several European models; Switzerland is probably the closest to the ACA. The answer to cost problems is not to tear it completely down — especially since the Republicans have no plan of their own — but to see how other countries keep costs down. Drug and medical supply costs are easy fixes, the US pays way too much for both and for no particular good reason.

Trump’s so-called solution ie tear it down and send the money to the people will escalate costs as there will be no competitive marketplace. In addition, people may keep the money and increase emergency room costs.

  4. I imagine most politicians keep a home/condo in DC and a home in their district. And then declare one or the other as their primary home on the basis of tax advantage. To prosecute one particular politician seems like political persecution — probably won’t hold inn court. If this continues, Congress or the courts or the IRS needs to establish clearer guidelines.

imagine if you imprison the CEOs, managers, etc who hire the migrants instead of the migrants. The whole prison industrial complex that is ICE will disappear saving millions. Now I wonder why the gov’t doesn’t do such a sensible thing……… no spectacle for the cameras? no scapegoats? no campaign donations?

  5. Oh, another European policy that may help — many European countries offer a public option that competes against private insurance companies in these exchanges. By offering the equivalent of Medicare as an insurance scheme, the exchange will force private companies to keep their premiums down.

The Canadian model — basic health care is paid for on a fee for service basis by the gov’t — is probably not feasible in the US. It’s unfortunate — you simply show your gov’t card and most things are covered. Extremely simple and efficient. Currently my ex-wife is in a Polish hospital and spends her free time filing out forms to maintain and inform her gov’t insurance company of her bills and work status. She misses the simplicity of the Ontario health card.

  6. I spoke with someone learning about tax preparation for the new year. She is taking a CE course. She said the Big Beautiful Bill has many good things to help seniors and that the interest being able to be taken off of auto loans will help so many in addition to the changes to taxes on tips. She said no one is talking in the media about the good things people are about to see when they go through the next tax season.

  7. There are millions in the US that only have to say I’m here illegally and their medical bills are paid…by taxpayers. So yes fee for service coverage wouldn’t work here😡

  8. My daughter and her friends worked as waitresses and bartenders in high school and uni. Essentially, all the employees would agree to report a certain level of tips — usually 15 to 25% of their hourly wage. They obviously made more, but if they reported some and the workplace was consistent, Revenue Canada didn’t care. I’m not sure how the IRS could do any different — how do they know what were tips…. and why would they care what minimal wage kids made, there’s bigger fish to fry

Auto loans are interesting. Most car companies make more on car loans than they do on the actual car. Even the larger used car sales lots will make more on loans than the car. After the 2008 meltdown, a lot of funds moved into auto loans and market pessimists have been warning about a car loan meltdown ever since. Houses usual maintain their value but cars will depreciate which makes investing in car loans a strange activity.

Post covid, there’s been some doom and gloom about auto loans and their resell value. Hence I wonder if an interest deduction is a way to keep the market viable. Plus auto prices have risen above the inflation rate making car sales hard to maintain. Perhaps an interest deduction is a favour to car companies to increase sales. In any case, car loans are in a strange bubble situation.

  9. NJ — show up at emergency and your costs are covered. it doesn’t matter what system the gov’t uses nor does it matter the status of the patient. Cost control is only the thing the gov’t should focus on — and offering insurance regardless of residency status is probably the best means of cost control.

From a strictly moral or ethical point of view, free health care for all should always be advocated.

  10. Wrong. Proof of insurance and estimated deductible is required at the time of service…unless you say you are an illegal. Happens alllll the time! Healthcare is not a right. We all pay for coverage…taxpayers that is. So where do you stop asserting “rights”?? Everyone gets a house, car, free childcare, medicine, clothing, education, phones, food….welcome to communism!!
