Something I shared on Facebook a little while ago, with the preface I wrote. . .
~ “(Sharing to my Christian Friends group)
If it seems true, and goes along with your preconceived views, that is all the more reason to check it out before posting.
This is a matter that has been bothering me for quite a while. So much on social media is misleading or downright false. Even elaborate stories with quotes and dates and such can be completely made up. (Those often include false statements claiming that Snopes rates it as true or the interview was on a certain network on a certain date, which makes the post “seem” legit, but is merely made up.)
Videos clips are often taken out of context or their meanings twisted.
And “Christian” pages or individuals often share these things, too – or are even guilty of making them up themselves. (I came across a supposed “Christian” Facebook page filled with false stories about various public figures and situations.)
Think of a politician or other public figure who shares your political leanings. If a post claimed that they had said something quite negatively shocking or nasty or whatnot, very likely we would google about it in disbelief, to disprove it. But the same egregious story told about a politician or public figure on the other political side, whom one dislikes, will often be shared without a second thought. We humans tend to believe the worst about people we dislike or disagree with.
Anyway, I am merely trying to urge us all to think more critically and carefully about the things we share. Slander, aka bearing false witness – which one of the Ten Commandments warns against – is way too common on social media, even among us Christians who should know better. For several years, I have seen false or misleading stories shared by some of my brothers and sister in Christ, and it seems to be even worse as political rancor heats up even more.
(One thing I did not quite agree with in this is where the writer says “Slanderers feel contempt toward someone with a sterling reputation.” The “contempt” part applies quite often, but not necessarily the “with a sterling reputation” part.)” ~
Kizzie most people I am around are critical thinkers. We all mess up from time to time but it has been my experience that those who have correct their mistake.
We humans tend to believe the worst about people we dislike or disagree with.
I kind of chuckled at this one because when believing a statement that a leftist or Democrat says (usually no difference in the terminology) well…it’s usually correct if it aligns with their diabolical politics. And it’s not so much disliking or disagreeing…it’s calling out their blatant lies and attacks. I actually do run it by a search using a few different sources to see if they truly said it. And when I do research it more likely than not is a case of Leftist spreading false statements. It’s kind of like my former HOA board who lied till the last second when they were all booted off and a new board of honest neighbors were elected. Kind of like the Biden administration being replaced….
The Argentine election was the equivalent to a mid term. Milei’s party won 40% of the vote and 64 of the 127 available seats. That’s not a landslide. That’s barely scraping by. He still needs to rely on allied parties to get his program through the legislation.
But it does demonstrate what $40 billion dollars of American taxpayer money can do. Glad some Americans are happy with the “investment”

Why is the ethnicity of a household important?
SNAP is for poor households — and people need to eat. Would you rather they starve based on their ethnicity? In addition the majority of recipients aged 18 to 60 are actually working while receiving SNAP. Perhaps a list of employers who’s workers receive SNAP can demonstrate who is really abusing the taxpayer’s money.
A quick search tells me Walmart, Dollar General/Tree, McDonald (and other fast food places) are at the top of the list……there’s the real issue. Pay a living wage and stop relying on gov’t handouts to feed your workers.
Provide support during crises: SNAP serves as a crucial lifeline for vulnerable populations during economic downturns, natural disasters, or other emergencies.
SNAP was never intended to be a paycheck for illegal invaders or those too unmotivated to get a job. Living off the taxpayers and contributing nothing to society is wrong. Democrats may want to away free stuff for votes but we do not. Ethnicity of recipients is telling when those not born in this country are getting the lions share of taxpayer welfare.
Raise the price of MickyD burgers to pay wages and then the business goes out. Simple solution. Who needs those burgers? Cut down on bad food choices and save healthcare dollars. Sounds like a for sure win/win.
NJ (re:3:18) – What I wrote about, and what the article was about, is something of which both sides are guilty, but each side insists that the other side is more guilty. Believe me, I see too many false posts shared by my fellow conservative Facebook friends, even some believers. (And I hate to bring this up, but there have been some shared on this news thread at various times as well.)
Kizzie as I noted we have all messed up at times but seeing some of those on this thread I would extend grace. And yes there have been those saying oops when pointed out. Having known our dear folk on here for many years I would not hesitate to say no one here puts forth deliberate lies or false statements. I cannot say that about msm and certain “ journalists”. Their job is to spread propaganda for the left…imo
And yes, SNAP shouldn’t be necessary or a consistent part of a family budget. Corporations should pay a living wage.
Janice — if a business model doesnt pay a living wage, its not a viable business. However, McDonald’s in Denmark pay a living wage, benefits, holidays, etc and a Big Mac cost the same as it does in the US. McDonalds pays in Denmark because it has to, it exploits workers in the US because it can. Eliminate the need for SNAP, mandate a living wage
NJ – Right – not deliberately being deceptive, just not checking something out before sharing, taking it at face value. That seems to be the common mistake when a post turns out to be false or misleading.
NJ, I would like more context for “According to CIS, percentage of US households receiving SNAP benefits.”There are some things that are not well defined in that heading.
Do you have a link to the source? What is CIS?
What are those categories? Citizenship? Country of origin? Ethnicity?
“White” is not a country, it’s race/ethnicity, so I’m guessing those categories are ethnic. Which means it doesn’t tell us what their citizenship is, whether they’re US-born or immigrant, and if immigrant whether they’re here legally or illegally. It also doesn’t tell us whether they’re working.
According to the USDA, the noncitizens include “lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, those granted a stay of deportation, and undocumented individuals… Undocumented individuals are not eligible to receive SNAP benefits, but may be nonparticipating members of SNAP households.”
California led the way in enrolling noncitizens on Food Stamps, with 273,000 in FY 2022. Florida had 238,000, New York 218,000, Texas 132,000, and Illinois 73,000 noncitizens. In contrast, Delaware, Mississippi, Montana, West Virginia, and Wyoming reported no noncitizens on Food Stamps.
#news Nearly half of all Afghan & Somali households in the United States are on welfare – while Americans are near the bottom at 8.6%
#afghan
1 in eight people in the US are on SNAP – meaning about 42 million people (12.3% of the U.S. population) are receiving taxpayer funded benefits.
SNAP benefits are funded through federal taxes (about $99.8 billion in FY 2024), paid by American taxpayers
Christina Aguayo News
A 2023 Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) report estimates that 55% of all migrant-headed households (legal and illegal) use at least one major welfare program (e.g., SNAP, Medicaid, cash assistance), with 52% for legal immigrants and 59% for illegal immigrants.
I see that post at 4 PM (ET) today. Thanks, Kizzie.
So the source is Christina Aguayo News.
She mentions a 2023 Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) report estimating that 55% of migrant-headed households use at least one major welfare program. I think the study is Welfare Use by Immigrants and the U.S.-Born, which says 54%.
The study looks interesting and I’ll try to reading it in some detail tomorrow. It does show that a higher percentage of immigrant populations use welfare programs than native-born. It also describes how immigrants, even illegal ones, can get around their official ineligibility for SNAP.
Now about the rest of the Christina Aguayo News Facebook post.
The list of percentage of SNAP users by ethnicity isn’t from the CIS study. The study only breaks things down by immigration status, not by ethnicity. The ethnicity numbers are from a bar graph at the bottom of the post, which doesn’t say where the numbers came from.
This statement is also from the post: “Nearly half of all Afghan & Somali households in the United States are on welfare — while Americans are near the bottom at 8.6%”.
The bar graph actually says that white people are at the bottom at 8.6%. I guess Christina Aguayo News thinks only white people are Americans.
The graph she cited was from Financial Wizards llc. I couldn’t get it to copy but they too are on FB and have a blog. Take it or leave it but those are the sources.
Ben Franklin said it well
.I am for doing good to the poor, but…I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed…that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.
But muh narrative….
