  1. Good morning from our foggy part of the country. Above normal temperatures seem to be what we will have for a bit. I will enjoy that when I start raking leaves. There are too many in the trees to do that yet. Are there fall chores you look forward to doing? Are there ones you hate?

  2. Good morning! No rain in sight for today.

I swept leaves out from the carport this morning, just the start of that daily chore. I don’t mind it. I will need to cut out all the dying vines and other plants as they turn yellow. I have already done that with the tiger lilies and ground orchids. Mowing and mulching leaves will continue for a while longer. Fall does not bring too many extra chores for me here.

I saw a news piece about those who decorate personal home entrances for fall with walkways lined with pumpkins and such. I would enjoy that chore if I could afford it. I thought of Kim.

  3. Cooler temps here and our high temps will be mid 40’s tomorrow. It’s fall y’all! Snowing in the mountains

We have no leaves.. just pine needles . I’d rather rake leaves!

I have had my pumpkins and fall foliage out for a couple weeks. I have to keep my pumpkins on the porch due to pesky deer and squirrels!

  4. We get too many leaves to try raking them all. Over the years, we’ve done different things to deal with them. Hubby used a mulcher (I think that’s the name) to deal with them for a few years. Since his death, we found that leaving them and mowing over them usually takes care of them.

With Nightingale and Boy having been busier this summer and not getting around to mowing very often, A couple of times this summer, I have hired a man who has a lawn service to take care of the lawn. The last time, which was last week, we arranged for him to come back next month to deal with the lawn and leaves. I will have Boy mow the lawn once in between now and then. (The grass is not growing too quickly with the cooler temps, so that should be fine.)

This man has been very pleasant and polite to deal with, does a great job, and even gave me a lower rate this past time. But I thought it was too low, so I added $20 to it.

  5. Jo – That did not work out after all. The work was too expensive for a rehab loan. The realtor says, though, that even a house in this bad condition may sell quickly to someone who would fix it up and re-sell it.

I am praying that when the time comes, it does indeed sell quickly. I don’t want to have long to be paying the mortgage and other bills while also paying rent and other expenses at the senior living place.

  6. We’re up to our eyeballs in tomatoes. I think we picked 14 milk crates of Roma tomatoes. We’ve already made 2 canner size batches of salsa and 1 canner size batch of tomato sauce. Everyday I go down to the old wood room and pick out the ripe tomatoes to process that day (we pick them green because of the threat of frost so they have to ripen in the dark).

I like to decorate my back deck with pumpkins and cornstalks and such, but once the pumpkins freeze it’s kinda gross, so this year I just decorated inside with the small and mini pumpkins. We roast the small pumpkins and freeze/can the flesh to use in homemade dog biscuits.

I look forward to riding around pulling the leaf picker – we put all our leaves onto the garden and into our compost each year. It’s just so satisfying to make a pass through the leaves and see that I’ve picked them all up so easily.
