Nobody condemns prayer; people do criticise “thoughts and prayers” as an auto response to any school shooting especially when it doesn’t come with concrete action. In this particular shooting, there’s been some morbid sarcasm as the children were praying at the time of the shooting. He’s creating an issue that doesn’t exist.
Since public school teachers are also not armed, the actions and thoughts attributed to the shooter do not make any sense. As a former teacher who could barely keep track of his coffee and phone on a busy day, a gun would’ve just added to the mess.
As it was a private Catholic school, how is the governor responsible for its security? Private institutions are responsible for their own security — why should they be subsidised by the state? If they have concerns they need to speak to the local police. Even in the public system, security is the responsibility of the principal and then the school board not the governor. Apparently the state of Minnesota provides grants to all the schools for social workers, security and other similar things. Walz refused to include private or charter schools. All schools of the state should have been offered these grants as a matter of public health and safety.
