  1. Cooler here with more rain tonight. The hummingbirds are beginning to fatten up for their exit south. The general store in St Elmo reports half of their hummers have left and the aspens are beginning to change colors already! Yay Fall

Safe traveling Jo…thrift stores are so fun. And like Janice I add to their inventory very often!

  2. Our church had to pay someone to come destroy three pianos–no one would take them. Everyone prefers electric keyboards–easier to move, and you can silence them if you have neighbors. 😦

Pianos are basically worthless. Horrifying, but true.

    At least in California.

  3. When I first called this group, I was told they would take it to a warehouse to store and when people needed a piano they could choose one (prob ably for cost of delivery). But the person I spoke to today made it sound like they didn’t do that. I think they probably will trash it as it was in pretty poor shape. Son did not like the thought that it would be trashed so I may not give the updated version of what I was told today. I figure God will get it to the proper destination depending on its usefulness for His purposes. I was surprised that they could get it done within a few hours of my call.

The young men are second year college students where our youth pastor goes to college. They did not know him. I invited the one I spoke with most to church.

  4. We have owned two pianos. One beautiful antique Weber upright grand and a new Yamaha upright grand.

The Weber we gave to my friend when we purchased the Yamaha. The Yamaha was loaned to the Nazarene Bible College for a year then loaned to Jim Brickman while he was in town so that he could practice in his hotel room.

The girls no longer desired to play the piano and it was wasting away in the basement. We gifted it to a very special girl in our lives and she now teaches her little ones on it. We are so thankful the Lord found a special place for that piano. I miss having a piano in the house. I could pick out tunes but never quite got the flow of playing. One day I may just find an antique upright and move it in this house…you never know…

  5. Huh! I would give you mine, Nj, if I no children or grandchildren stepped up and wanted it. The old uprights have such a good sound.

I have seen quite a few repurposed parts of the old piano. When we recently visited my aunt’s home, we saw the side leg pieces repurposed as stair rails. A panel from the side was on a wall, as well. Some of these old pianos have beautiful carved designs.

The keyboards also have their place in our lives, of course.
