  1. I think there are a lot of people involved in the coup. But charging Obama would probably motivate the Democratic base like nothing else. Not sure it’s a great idea unless they know they have what they need to convict him.

  2. And charging the first black president with treason after releasing those MLK files will not help the prosecution. Suspicion of government is high on both sides. We need wisdom.

    • Skin color plays no factor here – just the truth of what happened. They have the conspirators dead to rights – it’s high treason and the greatest political scandal in US history.

  3. This is Isaac Saul’s “My take” from yesterday’s Tangle newsletter.

A little background: Saul is not anti-Trump. On several occasions, he has expressed approval for various things Trump is doing, or has defended him in certain matters. But he also has disagreed with Trump on some matters. In this piece, he starts off with some points that are not a good light on Trump, but then mitigates that with saying that he does not think that Trump has done anything criminal.

    ~ “My take.

    • For several reasons, I strongly believe this letter is real.
    • Trump may want to protect his reputation in keeping the Epstein files sealed, but I highly doubt they criminally implicate him.
    • We should remember to continue to follow facts over speculation as this story progresses.

I’ll start with something I said on X that ended up getting a lot of attention: I’m 97.5% sure (roughly speaking) that Trump wrote or signed the letter described in The Wall Street Journal story. Why am I so sure? Five main reasons:

    1. Trump has a well documented history of drawing. This may seem kind of silly, but a key part of Trump’s (and his surrogates’) denials is that he would never send someone a note including some kind of a doodle. Donald Trump Jr., for instance, said “in 47 years I’ve never seen him doodle once. Give me a break with the fake ‘journalisming.’” Yet I can easily find example after example of signed Trump drawings. You don’t have to take my word for it: In his own book published in 2008, Trump wrote about drawing for charity.

    2. The language in the note does, actually, sound like Trump’s. Federalist CEO and co-founder Sean Davis, who always seems to take Trump’s side, claimed he asked Grok to search every record of Trump speaking or writing and never found him using the word “enigma,” which the note to Epstein used. It seems that Grok got this one wrong, since Trump has said ‘enigma’ repeatedly — in both writing and in speeches. Davis’s post on X was immediately plastered with community notes describing all the times Trump has used the word.

    3. Trump was really good friends with Epstein! Even though the two eventually had a falling out, the timing of the birthday letter lines up quite well, actually. Trump purportedly wrote the message in 2003; in 2002, Trump told New York Magazine what a terrific guy he thought Epstein was and how “it is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.” For his part, Epstein thought he was Trump’s closest friend. Trump flew on Epstein’s plane several times in the 1990s, and the two were repeatedly pictured together at parties. So, yes, it’s totally plausible that Trump could have written him this intimate and cryptic birthday note in 2003.

    4. Trump is not only well known for drawings, but also sending personalized signed notes. The Washington Post ran a whole story about Trump’s lifelong love of letters just this month. The New York Times wrote a similar piece all the way back in 2016, referencing his “most powerful and memorable form of communication… the old-fashioned ritual of a personal letter.”

    5. Finally, I sincerely doubt The Wall Street Journal would publish this story if it weren’t 100% sure about its veracity. Trump has been successfully intimidating news outlet after news outlet with lawsuits. The Journal is obviously aware of this, and would never take the massive risk of lobbing a grenade at Trump if it didn’t have the goods. A lot of people don’t understand the layers of review these pieces go through to get published, but the process is substantial. I’m quite confident that The Journal has buttoned this piece up and protected itself, because Trump suing wasn’t just a predictable outcome — he literally told them he would sue if they ran the story.

Now, a few points on what we can take from any of this. For starters, I certainly don’t think we should dismiss the relationship between Trump and Epstein. All told, the stories of them partying together, the allegations of sexual misconduct against Trump, the footage of Trump judging underaged models, and the other oddities like this letter can and should set off all sorts of alarms.

At the same time, I agree with Trump that if he were criminally implicated in the Epstein case, that information would likely have leaked during the Biden administration — or any one of his three presidential campaigns. I do not think Trump decided to crush this story to cover up his own wrongdoing; I think it’s far more likely that he is trying to protect his own or his friends’ reputations, knowing that a mere mention in the Epstein files would create an air of guilt. If you read how Julie K. Brown, the reporter who initially investigated the Epstein case, talks about Trump’s role in it all, I think you’ll see the facts are much less interesting than all the speculation.” ~

  4. Whether one believes the whole story or not, there are people of good faith who believe the story, and there are people of good faith who disbelieve the story. What was said to DJ was uncalled for, to say the least.

    • There’s a lot of hurt in Texas, North Carolina, Florida, California and many other places where floods, fires, and hurricanes have left people dislocated and damaged. Our attention wanders from them so easily as soon as there is another headline. But for them the struggle goes on, much like it does when someone dies. It’s good to be reminded to pray and take whatever meager act we can to help. Thanks for posting.

  5. Kizzie,

Are you really going to continue to push that lie?

Saul’s long on conjecture, short on actual facts that tie it to Trump. He’s just throwing out red meat for a readership that wants it to be true.

This is what I mean when I say you folks desperately want to believe any bad thing someone says about Trump.

    It’s so predictable.

  6. And again, you chase an alleged birthday letter from Trump that may tie him to Epstein in some far distant past, trying to play the guilt by association game.

Yet you ignore the crimes involving raped under aged girls and boys by numerous politicians and celebrities with actually credible allegations and witness testimony, as well as court documents.

    It’s borderline obsession with Trump.

  8. Claiming that someone is ignoring one story by posting about another is a fallacy that has been pointed out time and time again.

The reason I shared that story was not to “push” anything, but in defense of DJ, to show that there is enough out there for reasonable people of good faith to disagree on the matter. (There are plenty of links in the piece to various articles about the allegations.)

As for Saul’s readership, we are a mix of left, right, and center. Saul himself is also a mix of various opinions, depending on the issue. (IOW, not beholden to any one “side,” which is where I try to be myself.) He gets plenty of reader mail complaining when he writes something negative about Trump. (And he’s not afraid to print some of it, too.)

As I said above, Saul has defended Trump in other matters (as have I elsewhere). Even in this piece, he makes it clear that he does not believe that Trump was not sexually involved with underage girls.

I am not “obsessed” with Trump. You post more negative stuff about Obama and Biden than anyone does about Trump. Does that necessarily mean that you are obsessed with them and hate them? I certainly hope not!

“It’s so predictable.” You have gotten very good with the pithy, dismissive comments. Just like my leftist friend “YA.”

  9. “Skin color plays no factor here – just the truth…”

Tychicus, that may be true for you and me, but without overwhelming evidence and bi-partisan support, an indictment would be little more than chum in the waters for both sides. And a distraction from what else is going on in the world that we probably should be paying attention to.

  10. And speaking of things we should probably be paying attention to:

” ….At least 76 children in Gaza have died of malnutrition since the conflict began in October 2023, as well as ten adults, the Palestinian health ministry says. According to the World Health Organization, most of these occurred since Israeli authorities imposed a blockade at the beginning of March.

Razan was one of at least four children to succumb in the last three days, the youngest just three months. Over the past 24 hours, 18 deaths have been recorded due to famine in Gaza, the health ministry says, reflecting a deepening crisis in the territory…. ”

  12. Given the decisions made by the Supreme Court on executive immunity, it should be next to impossible to charge a president with anything even jaywalking.

I find the timing of the current kerfuffle interesting — lets focus on the black guy instead of dirty old men ……

I’m not sure why the WSJ article is important — it only confirms what is widely know; Trump was a sexual predator (convicted in civil court, admitted to grabbing women, likes them young, walked into change rooms, etc) who was best friends with a man well known for both partying with young girls and later taking young girls to his private island. This was well established over a decade ago, and I thought most Trump voters had somehow come to terms with this. Its the denial and attempts at distraction that make this more interesting than it should be. The fact that FBI agents were called in to red flag any mention of Trump in the files is bizarre.

The legitimate question right now should be is there a “list” and who has that “list”? Are public figures compromised and is this affecting American policy both here and especially abroad? This is a bipartisan issue — Democrats, Republicans, business CEOs, the media etc are all being mentioned as compromised. The conspiracy I hear on both righ and left is Maxwell’s ties to Mossad — ie Mossad has the list and Americans are compromised to act in favour of Israel. Normally I disdain conspiracies but when the left and right agree and there’s only one link necessary — ie from Maxwell to her father’s associates, — it does make me wonder.

  14. C’mon Debra.

The Gaza Health Ministry are known propagandists and liars who over exaggerate.

There are numerous other examples, these are just a couple. Find a better source. Not saying some aren’t dying, I don’t know, I’m just saying they’re a seriously questionable source.

  15. I’m seeing a total self own from the pro-illegal invader crowd. They’re pointing out that 30% of the people ICE is arresting don’t have criminal records. They just gloss over that 70% do have criminal records or pending charges, and many of those arrested who didn’t have records, were swept up when the 70% was targeted. Pick better friends I guess…..

Oh, and the 30%, they’re still criminals, in clear violation of our immigration laws.

  16. So they “only” killed 12, 756. Okay then, that’s much better. Carry on.

A quick check on Wikipedia and then onto their footnotes reveals over 58 000 casualties of which about 80% are estimated to be women and children. The Lancelet actually states the Health Ministry underestimates the numbers…. The UN document outlining the causalities, food/water insecurity, homelessness, etc is sober document (and makes me want to drink)
