He is also wrong though too, as he has abused his position for his own gain, reelection, and the benefit of big dollar donors, not the will of his constituents.
“Thom Tillis mocked Trump’s tariffs, “Whose throat do I get to choke if this proves wrong?” April just brought in a record $16.3B in tariffs and a $258B surplus. Sit down, @SenThomTillis . You don’t get to doubt results that beat your entire party’s record.
Re: This part of the quote in the first post: “This comes just hours after Trump EVISCERATED him.”
You can accuse me of clutching my pearls again, but it makes me cringe to see someone “eviscerating” another. And it makes me cringe even more to see someone else celebrate that evisceration.
Agree with Kizzie as a fellow believer. It’s not becoming.
And for more thoughtful and knowledgable and smarter political analysis (with a sly and wise smile) via WSJ commentary piece:
Trump Puts the Senate in Play in 2026 … By helping to drive Thom Tillis into retirement, he puts his Presidency at risk. (Oh, Trump)
~ A common feature of Donald Trump’s two terms as President is that he can’t stand political prosperity. When events are going in his direction, he has an uncanny habit of handing his opponents a sword.
The latest example came Sunday after GOP leaders dragged several holdouts across the line to vote aye and start debate over the Senate version of the budget reconciliation bill. The vote was 51-49, but Mr. Trump couldn’t leave victory alone.
Instead he unloaded on the two GOP dissenters, Rand Paul of Kentucky and especially Thom Tillis of North Carolina. Mr. Trump dumped three different Truth Social posts on Mr. Tillis, calling him a sellout, a “talker and complainer” and various other insults.
He also all but promised to support a Republican opponent in the GOP primary for Senate in 2026, when Mr. Tillis’s term ends. “Numerous people have come forward wanting to run in the Primary against ‘Senator Thom’ Tillis,” Mr. Trump said on Truth Social. “I will be meeting with them over the coming weeks, looking for someone who will properly represent the Great People of North Carolina.”
The GOP has a 53-47 majority now, but Susan Collins always has a tough race in Maine if she decides to run again. Democrats are targeting Joni Ernst in Iowa. In the suicide-isn’t-painless department, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is challenging GOP incumbent Sen. John Cornyn. Mr. Paxton may be the only Republican who could lose in Texas given his record harassing business with lawsuits, impeachment, and other embarrassments. ….
… GOP legislative reforms will have no chance if Democrats take the House in 2026. And if they also take the Senate, forget about confirming another Supreme Court nominee.
I am hoping the Democrats will have been awakened to their peril of being dragged off into oblivion by the anti America crowd sufficiently to serve us well as a nation when they regain control, which they no doubt will if the nation continues. There are good people on both sides available to be elected into office.
~ WASHINGTON, D.C. — A record-low 58% of U.S. adults say they are “extremely” (41%) or “very” (17%) proud to be an American, down nine percentage points from last year and five points below the prior low from 2020. The 41% who are “extremely proud” is not statistically different from prior lows of 38% in 2022 and 39% in 2023, indicating most of the change this year is attributable to a decline in the percentage who are “very proud.” ~
Re: This, from President Trump’s Truth Social quote:
~ “Numerous people have come forward wanting to run in the Primary against ‘Senator Thom’ Tillis,” Mr. Trump said on Truth Social. “I will be meeting with them over the coming weeks, looking for someone who will properly represent the Great People of North Carolina.” ~
It is not up to him. It is up to the people of North Carolina.
I don’t think of my country in those terms. I would never say I’m proud to be an American. I’m very very thankful to have been born here but not proud of it. It’s by God’s grace that I’m here. So I’m neither proud nor ashamed of my country, though I can’t say the same about my leaders.
The journal occasionally has a small point. I wonder if anyone really cares if the President doesn’t like Paul, Massie, Tucker or Tillis for a news cycle . He does have a way of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, politically.
Trump’s anger and viciousness and ego goes much too far for my tastes and is downright ugly (many) times — and perhaps, soon enough, for many other common-sense people in America we will have had enough.
I’ve grown weary of it long ago, frankly. And it’s unbecoming of a president in America.
But it’s where we are and I’m just sorry to see it.
Actually ‘ego’ is better (or more accurately — and biblically) called out as pride. Probably all public leaders have a measure of that. But some more brazenly than others.
Voters are wise to take measure of all those traits.
“Senior Israeli officers responded on
Monday to soldiers’ testimonies that appeared in Haaretz detailing deliberate fire at Palestinians near aid distribution sites in Gaza over the past month, acknowledging that civilians had been killed due to “inaccurate and uncalculated” artillery fire.
According to officers of the Israeli military’s Southern Command, the shelling was aimed at maintaining order at food distribution sites, but the army has since shifted to “other methods.”
And then there’s this report of pogroms being carried out on the West Bank against Palestinian residents in their homes. It is reported that the security forces are doing very little to protect these families from the mobs .
“Last week, settlers set fire to Palestinian property and soldiers shot dead three Palestinians in the village of Kafr Malik.
A few days later, settlers assaulted soldiers who were sent to remove them from the outpost – from which, according to suspicions, the rioters had come. Although both incidents are egregious, only one was condemned – the one in which Jews were harmed – and even that condemnation was very weak.”
And then there is the plight of Palestinian Christians who are being systematically pushed off their lands on the West Bank by Israeli settlers. And we don’t seem to care about that at all. Christians.
”
— Israeli settlers attacked homes and lit a fire at the eastern entrance of the Christian West Bank village of Taybeh on June 26, as they rampaged through the neighboring village of Kafr Malik.
The rampage resulted in the deaths of three people from Kafr Malik, the Palestinian health ministry said, and the burning of several homes and vehicles. No injuries were reported in Taybeh.
“These days, we are living under the fire, barbarism and brutality of the settlers … and under the direct protection of the Israeli occupation army,” Father Bashar Basiel, priest at Christ the Redeemer Parish, wrote in a post he sent out to journalists. “We will win with hope. We are Palestinian Christians. We resist with our faith.”
I’m posting these stories because most won’t know about them unless you search. The mainstream and Christian media is strangely silent.
Husband turned on CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network) to see what they were reporting. He said they were exuberant, saying Israel is “doing the Lord’s work”. It’s disgusting to me. But we at least should see and know what “the Lord’s work” looks like to these men.
There is an enormous amount of disinformation out there. Finding the truth is a challenge. It is easy to be drawn by things that appeal to our own preferences.
The Bible says that when we stand before God there will be people who say I did this for you, I did that for you, in your name I prophesied, I cast out demons. But Jesus will say I never knew you.
I used to wonder how that could ever be possible. Could you serve God and him still not know you? But I am convinced that of all God’s creatures human beings have a unique capacity for self deception. And at some point if we persist, God just lets us do it.
That’s one reason I repent so much; I suspect I need it more than many if not most. I keep short accounts. :–)
Tychicus, so you believe Haaretz is lying, the Christian priest is lying, and the opposition leader that pointed out the pogroms is lying? Ok , you can believe that if you want to. But what if they’re not lying? Wouldn’t you want to know?
All I did was provide the CBN story, which directly contradicts what Haaretz reported. You can decide for yourself. I do know that despite being attacked (yet again) on Oct 7th, the IDF goes out of its way to avoid civilian casualties. In war, however, that is not always possible (esp. when the opposition hides in schools, hospitals, etc.).
I also find it difficult to trust sources that talk about “the Israeli occupation army” and “Palestinian land.”
I know that casualties can be heavy in wars fought in cities and when gueilla tactics are used. And I do believe that Hamas is bad news for everyone.
But there is never any mention of the Christians who have lived there for many centuries. It’s as if they don’t matter or don’t exist. They do exist and they matter.
God is not a Zionist. He blesses those who repent and obey him, and has no promises of protection or blessing for those who don’t. Like many others, I look forward to the day when the people of Israel ‘look upon him who they pierced and mourn as for an only son’. That is a picture of true repentance and acceptance of the Lord Jesus. Until that day they desperately need to be evangelized, not told that everything they do is ok because they are ‘chosen’.
Add another RINO to the endangered list. 😁🦏
Buh-bye….
