Rain and thunderstorms expected but not so much as yesterday. Currently forty four, expecting fifty seven. Hoping daughter is over whatever.
My dad had an excellent day yesterday. Joking, laughing, chatting, walking, reading, watching. Probably one of the best days in years. I understand people in their final days can rally like that but no idea if he is in his final days or not, so we are just enjoying it.
Good morning! It is very warm out today, feeling just like summer. Miss Bosley perked back up yesterday, had a strong appetite, and seems like her old self. She escaped to outside this morning while I pulled a few weeds around the mailbox.
So glad to hear the good news about your Dad’s great day, Mumsee.
I have a prickly pear cactus at the curb by the mailbox, and I broke off a small piece of it. I hope I can root it and start a new plant. Their blooms are so pretty.
I had stuck it in a small bowl of water and found out that is a no-no. It needs to be kept in a warm dry place until it gets a callus (scarred over) on the broken part. Then it can be put in water to root or in the soil. Cacti are not the typical plants I deal with.
I thought someone here might be interested in a book that son requested I order for his birthday.
Reformation as Renewal by Matthew Barret.
Here is the description from Amazon:
“ A holistic, eye-opening history of one of the most significant turning points in Christianity, The Reformation as Renewal demonstrates that the Reformation was at its core a renewal of evangelical catholicity.
In the sixteenth century Rome charged the Reformers with novelty, as if they were heretics departing from the catholic (universal) church. But the Reformers believed they were more catholic than Rome. Distinguishing themselves from Radicals, the Reformers were convinced they were retrieving the faith of the church fathers and the best of the medieval Scholastics. The Reformers saw themselves as faithful stewards of the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church preserved across history, and they insisted on a restoration of true worship in their own day.
By listening to the Reformers’ own voices, The Reformation as Renewal helps readers explore:
The Reformation’s roots in patristic and medieval thought and its response to late medieval innovations.
Key philosophical and theological differences between Scholasticism in the High Middle Ages and deviations in the Late Middle Ages.
The many ways sixteenth and seventeenth century Protestant Scholastics critically appropriated Thomas Aquinas.
The Reformation’s response to the charge of novelty by an appeal to the Augustinian tradition.
Common caricatures that charge the Reformation with schism or assume the Reformation was the gateway to secularism.
The spread of Reformation catholicity across Europe, as seen in first and second-generation leaders from Luther and Melanchthon in Wittenberg to Zwingli and Bullinger in Zurich to Bucer and Calvin in Strasbourg and Geneva to Tyndale, Cranmer, and Jewel in England, and many others.
The theology of the Reformers, with special attention on their writings defending the catholicity of the Reformation.
This balanced, insightful, and accessible treatment of the Reformation will help readers see this watershed moment in the history of Christianity with fresh eyes and appreciate the unity they have with the church across time. Readers will discover that the Reformation was not a new invention, but the renewal of something very old.”
It is way too hot here, 85 with some humidity. Peaceful, however, after a violent storm went through. We spent a bit of time at 2:00 AM in the basement because of a tornado warning. That is such a seldom thing here. We haven’t had storms like this for quite a while, and this is the second one. I had five warnings on the phone last night. Another storm is supposed to come through tomorrow night.
My husband’s group played early in the day at an historic one room schoolhouse, so there was no sleeping in for us.
Kathaleena, I loved the FB video of them playing that venue.
Your weather sounds so much like what we were going through. It now has settled into a hot stretch. Near 90° today but will turn up hotter for the next several days.
Good morning, all. Day shift has arrived. Night shift reports the energizer bunny was up until four thirty this morning. Getting up every few minutes going back and forth to his room back to the living room. Of course, night shift had to continually check to see if he was dragging a blanket to trip over. We certainly don’t want a fall for him.
We had another excellent sermon this morning that covered the passage about Hagar in Genesis, timely considering that was the start of major conflicts in the Middle East. If anyone has time to watch, the sermon begins near the 38 minute mark.
Good morning, all. A beautiful summer day here.

Windy warm morning here. Praying for Cheryl and Aj
Daughter totaled her car downtown last night. She is fine but quite shaken. Seems like a crisis is never lost when husband is out of town….

But it is fun to try new plants. And a delight when one succeeds.

I love the cosmos. Our garden plants are sprouting. What joy to try to remember what you planted where.
