  1. Frost today and 87 on Sunday. Talk about weather whiplash!

That is a familiar sight. I only go out and holler at them when they get near the gardens or cedar tree.

  2. We have not seen deer around here more than a few times in the past several years. We used to see them in huge gatherings, as many as a hundred but we have had several die offs. Other places they abound. We still see tracks on the road at times so know there is some presence. And hunting has not been cut back. It is like we are now the Bermuda Triangle for deer.

  3. Interesting, mumsee. We do not see as many as we used to. Most people sight the terrible increase in wolves as the reason. The DNR does not. It is a battle.

  4. Unlike for most of you, that sight is amazing to me! We have nothing like it in Atlanta metro area.

I just started listening to a new book recommended at the Enjoying God’s Word conference. It is The Art of Contentment by Thomas Watson, a Puritan.

  5. We have lots of deer around here, including a doe who has her fawns in our neighborhood each year. This will be her third year that we’ve seen her, and the same doe is still around, but of course no fawns quite yet. The town deer are shockingly blase about people, walking within ten feet or so from them. This mother, having seen us multiple times two years ago, last year allowed her fawn to come within five or six feet of me. She watched us, but didn’t do or say anything as it approached.

  7. 🙂

I did see a couple horseback riders sauntering along the side of the peninsula road on my drive to the dentist office yesterday. Always a pleasant sight to see. 🙂 No peacocks though.

  8. This was on the road to Mt. Rushmore. They were calmly eating on the side of the road as we passed by. When I stopped and got out of the van to get the picture, they obliged me by posing, then ran off into the woods afterwards.

  9. I had to look twice at that photo. That could have been taken on my road! So so lovely they are.

The other night we had a bear a fox and deer come through…the fox den is under the neighbor’s porch and the babies are out every day playing.

  10. Y’all have such an array of wildlife!

We just have wild people life! The traffic is worse every single day. All the people escaping from the extreme blue states must be coming hete.

  11. Sorry, mumsee. I just couldn’t resist. I maybe should have taken more time and written ‘you’re’ instead of ‘your’.

My brother used to get peacocks in his yard, which is close to a zoo. I think they may have them more enclosed now. They used to run free. Their cry is quite loud. The feathers of the males are so gorgeous.

  12. Yesterday my cousin posted on FB that the CA DMV didn’t send her a letter reminding her to renew her driver’s license.

She’s a driver for Amazon and THEY sent her an email telling her they needed to see her new license.

She went to the DMV in a panic, and then discovered they needed her marriage license and divorce paperwork from nearly 20 years ago.

She didn’t know what to do and is afraid of losing her job.

Meanwhile, we discussed REAL IDs at dinner and I commented that I got mine when I last renewed my license during COVID.

I pulled it out, admired the golden bear indicating Real ID, then realized MY LICENSE is expiring in about a month.

    Panic.

I stayed up WAY too late filling out paperwork on line, proving who I was (I have a new passport, too, which was handy).

Unfortunately, I had to prove I lived in my house (where we’ve been for 13 years), by providing two different letters from reputable sources (bank, taxes, deed, whatever) with a matching name.

Since I use my maiden name in my driver’s license, I had to find bills that included my maiden name.

    Or else explain.

Eventually, I found bills I could use, uploaded, and then discovered there’s a mandatory video to watch about updated rules of the road.

Not bad–but it went on for over an hour.

I finished at 1:30 AM, then clicked “set an appointment” because I have to appear with aforementioned paperwork at the DMV–and they’ll take my photo.

The first available appointment is more than a month AFTER my birthday.

When we return from the wedding, with 9 days to spare, I’ll take the paperwork, a book, a bottle of water, and sit at the DMV until I’m seen.

All because the CA DMV no longer sounds out notices.

We have to have a DMV account now, if we want information.

I’m sure I’m the only person who didn’t know any of this–NOT.

Oh, and of course, they registered me to vote since I was there. 🙂
