  1. Good morning. The weather is on repeat, another cool start but warming up nicely later. We expect near record breaking heat for the weekend.

I am supposed to go to a Good Friday service with two friends. Does anyone attend any of the Holy Week special services?

A huge Sunrise Service is held each year here at Stone Mountain. I have never desired to attend. I’ve heard traffic is horrid.

  2. We used to do all the services. This year our church will only have the service on Easter, due to the pastor being in a rehab facility. In years past several churches joined together on Good Friday. We will go to my daughter’s service for that and Good Friday. We would have also gone to the Maundy Thursday one if we had been able to go in time for it. My husband’s group plays at an assisted living place today and he decided he needed to be there. I like all the Easter services. These traditions can be so meaningful.

  3. Because we sang in the choir and I love liturgical services, I’ve attended all the services during Holy Week for years.

We’re now in a non-denominational church with a fine musician who doesn’t really understand what it means to be a worship LEADER, and the music has been a disappointment.

By not “observing” a liturgical Lent, well, let’s say I’ve been grieving for a long time.

I think a lot of it has to do with how you were raised.

Raised in the Catholic Church with pomp, circumstances, glorious choirs, and a common liturgy everyone spoke, that’s how I know about worshipping God.

We’ve attended 18 different churches over the years (thanks, Navy). I love the liturgical services with glorious music best.

We hardly know it’s Holy Week here at our house–and believe we’re the worse for that. 😦

It’s in situations like this, that I’m grateful for Youtube church services. They can help.

  4. after BSF yesterday I went to my daughters house to visit with her in-laws and take them the program from Saturdays funeral. It was a great visit and at the end he said come back again. I have stayed away because I didn’t feel welcome so that was very special

not sure if I’m invited for Easter

  5. My current church does not do any special services for Easter, and for Palm Sunday the sermon was on the Tower of Babel. It was a good sermon, but I wished for more Jesus! I watched online.

The main focus at Easter outside of Resurrection Sunday is Eggstravaganza, the egg hunt which includes telling children about Jesus.

M, wishing you could go with us to the church where you spoke when in Atlanta for their Good Friday service. They have a men’s dinner for Maundy Thursday with foot washing (ladies are not invited). We have many options for other church services to attend.

  6. Our sister church (Presby) across the harbor hosts the Good Friday service every year that we partake in. I’d often take Carol to Holy Week services (MO Lutheran) and I do miss that now, I also appreciate those observances leading up to Easter.

I’m not a big fan of contemporary Christian worship services. 😦

If I weren’t Presbyterian I’d probably semi-parallel-migrate to an Anglican Church.

I’m spending a 2nd vacation day today going through the stacks of paper I need to file or toss that have landed on the entry table at the front of the house. Tomorrow I’m heading up to spend some time, have lunch with K and Saturday will see my cousin for lunch.

I’m still getting work-related phone calls from sources who aren’t aware I’m “off.” Sigh. Councilmember called/left voicemail yesterday and the aide to the former council member is calling me this morning. Guess I’d better find out what it’s about.

  7. Just in from mowing. Taking advantage of my brother being here to get seven hours, approx, of mowing. Then there is weed eating. It is that time of year!

  8. My mowing is about four acres. Where the sheep and goats used to live. Nope, I talk to God and sing His praises. Riding lawnmower. I used to use the two rotary mowers ( no motor so just the sound of the spinning blades) and a self propelled before I started mowing the pastures. My way of keeping the rattlers and rodents at bay.

  9. I used to use both a riding mower and a self-propelled mower. However, I have not used either since my husband retired. I have used the weedwhacker as I care more about that than he does. He also doesn’t use the self-propelled mower on the edges of the lawn like I did, but I let it go. I would have to learn again how to even use the riding mower now. I didn’t mind doing that.

  10. We are attending the Good Friday service at our church tomorrow. Afterwards we will go out for lunch with daughter for husband’s birthday.

On our way home, we will stop and vote. Our gov’t decided that they couldn’t hold an election during Ramadan but we can on April 28 which puts all the advance polls on Good Friday thru Easter Monday. So frustrating.

Palm Sunday was acknowledged but the sermon was not about that.

I miss the sunrise services we used to have when we lived back in Alberta. We, and a bunch of friends, would head to a picnic shelter on a hill with a lovely stone fireplace and enjoy a service together while watching the sun rise. Then we’d eat hot cross buns and head in for the Sunday morning service.

Husband usually gets up and has his own sunrise service at the bottom (east side) of our yard. The congregation is geese, ravens, sandhill cranes and ducks.
