  1. Yesterday our granddaughter’s high school soccer team played the local school. She is only a freshman and probably wasn’t going to play, but we went anyway.

Surprise! She not only got to play, but was the starting goalie! She is not normally at that position, but the regular two couldn’t play for various reasons.

Her mother (D1) didn’t come the 90 miles to see the game but wishes she had, She didn’t believe when Mrs L texted her, so she sent a photo.

The local team is the best in the conference, so granddaughter stayed busy. Her team lost 6-0, but she blocked 11 shots. Her teammates were generous with praise for her efforts.

  2. Good morning. We had a little rain yesterday. It should bring on a green blush to the hills. I completed my NIHSS certification training last night. That should have all my certs renewed for another 2 years. I feel like all I have done is study since the first of the year.

  3. Peter, how fun! Go local team 🙂

We had a little rain late yesterday also.

Got a message from the body shop saying my car should be ready today(?). That was quick.

  4. I just finished listening to Hillbilly Elegy. It was really good and explained a lot that I did not know about the Rust Belt folks. It also shows the American Dream to be truly at work in some lives. Has anyone else read it? I don’t think I would want to see the movie.

  5. I read it long ago. It was interesting. Not everyone’s experience, but interesting. The movie was good, if I recall, but lots of swearing as that was how he was raised.

We were supposed to be at a gig which is over a half hour away. However, we had hot water issues, so we had to be home for a technician. I am not sorry to not be on the roads. It is icing up on our back deck. There is sleet/rain, and we just had some thunder. Tomorrow we will probably have some snow.

The hot water issues were solved by having an old fuse box gutted and bypassed. Apparently, it was not needed as it was the 47 years or so ago that we put it in. We had a problem with it a year ago, but we will not have that issue again. We are so grateful for these technicians who can help out when they are needed. Thank the Lord for those who do this work.

  6. Glad you are staying off the roads and ice, Kathaleena! Easy fixes are a true blessing.

I knew the bad language in the book was a portrayal of the true situation, but I still did not like hearing it. The former lady owner of Art’s tax business at times used language like that. She was from the Georgia mountains area. Of course, I knew other people, like Art’s parents, from the NC mountains who never used such language.

  7. Yes, I read Hillbilly Elegy in the fall and liked it. I heard such mixed reviews when it came out that I avoided it, but then once I know (1) he was the VP candidate and (2) one of my brothers was born in the same Kentucky town Vance was, I wanted to read it.

DJ, when I was a teenager (just 12-14) someone in our church asked prayer because her husband was having a biopsy. I prayed that the results would be “positive,” and she was quite frosty afterward as she informed me I needed to pray for “negative” results instead.

  8. Janice I read the book before he became VP. My SIL lent it to me telling me I had to read it because he was “my people”!!😂 He was born in Middletown just north of Hamilton where I was born. Hamilton is affectionately known as “hamiltucky “ as many there had their beginnings in the area where JD’s family was from in KY. I enjoyed the book very much and knew so much of which he spoke in the book. 😊 Nj
