Good morning! It’s another beautiful springish day in Atlanta. What are people planning to plant in their yards and gardens this spring?
A friend told me I need two blueberry plants instead of a single one in order to help get a harvest. Is that true? I might have to buy a second plant, and I would like a fig bush, too.
I have no idea about the blueberry plant, but yum! I have never seen a fig bush.
I made a breakfast cake this morning. It is only the second time I have made it. It takes 24 hours before you add the final ingredients and bake it. It is a sourdough, low sugar cake and made with white wheat flour. It also has berries. I used a triple berry mix and wild blueberries, all frozen. It is yummy with whipped cream. I also had some spiced pecans on the side. Most of this cake will be frozen and then microwaved piece by piece.
Smart way to dole out the cake, Kathaleena. I told Art we would freeze half of the small apple pie I got, and we will have it. when son is home next time.
Good morning, all. Yes, blueberries benefit from a companion. I had a fig tree growing indoors. Then, while living in Greece, we had significant cold and snow, and the neighbors very large fig tree survived. When I got home, I thought my fig tree could get that big, I will transplant it outside. Really bad idea, it did not survive.
When I planted honeyberry (haskap), I did everything wrong but still enjoy some delicious honeyberries every year, though the birds are quicker than I am. I need to get another unrelated one planted to increase the crop.
I did plant two blueberries but one plant died so needs to be replaced.
I have never tasted a honeyberry. I know some berry farms do grow them around the area (although not really near us). Do you just eat the berries whole or make something with them?
Figs can be tricky. They require a specific wasp for pollination, different species of wasps for different trees, and I’m pretty sure you need more than one tree of them, too. We had a fig tree for years, and it would grow tiny little figs, but nothing edible, and years later I realized it was probably because we hadn’t done our research on what we needed to get figs.

I have not harvested enough to do more than eat some each day.

The weather app, clime, shows we are right on the snow line.
I went downstairs this afternoon as the wind was so fierce that it just felt safer down there. Now it is quiet but I don’t see any snow.
Did my taxes yesterday, not encouraging. oh, well. It would certainly help if they didn’t tax social security.
