  1. Good morning! Happy Saturday!

Art had to take his car for servicing yesterday and not knowing how long it would take, he took the day off. After the car work, we were able to take care of some overdue errands like glass recycling, cardboard recycling, picking up meds, and making a return.

We actually got to enjoy a takeout meal on Valentin’s Day from Community Q, a nearby BBQ spot. Having been stuck at home for a whole week, in the bed for most of it, made the BBQ chicken, Texas toast, collard greens, and Cole slaw especially welcome.

  2. I don’t think I have had BBQ up north that is as good as what I have had from down south. Sounds yummy. I made pasty for my husband. Those are usually made in individual pies; however, I make mine in a pie plate. I also cheated with boughten store pie crusts, which always go on sale during the holidays. The older I get the less I desire to cook. Thank the Lord for convenience food.

  3. Morning! What a blessed day that sounds to be Janice. A time to exhale and enjoy the moments.

Kathaleena I have heard of pasty’s but don’t believe I have ever had them. I find myself not wanting to cook as much. The cooking part isn’t as bad as the clean up part!

We have a couple inches of new snow with ice underneath. We actually had thunder and lightning with the snowstorm last night. Scared poor Lula half out of her wits! I will probably skip the baby shower in the Springs this morning as by noon another storm is moving in.

  4. Good morning from a beautiful warm and snowy Idaho morning. Twenty six here with snow and some rain expected for the next five or six days.

As I have gotten older, I find I prefer to eat differently than before. I do the cleanup, which suits me. I fix my dad’s meals and mine. Daughter fixes most of the meals for the two and husband fixes his. He also is changing what he eats. He did a lot of the cooking for the eleven for the few years they were here and enjoys cooking large quantities. We are not there anymore.

  5. I still cook a lot by necessity, to have healthier meals. But I simplify things as I discover easier ways to do healthy.

Yesterday I did a small batch of no sugar banana “cookies.”

The original recipe uses two very ripe bananas, mashed, mixed with one cup of old fashioned oatmeal and a teaspoon of cinnamon. I chose to plump some raisins in a sprinkle of water in the microwave for 10 seconds, drained and added them. It made 9 cookies on parchment paper at 350° for about 8 minutes. Art took three for his break time between clients. He does not have time for a real lunch. Next time I will add some walnuts.

  6. I seem to recall reports of the federal government spending 14,000 dollars for a toilet seat a while back. NYT’s?

There is and has always been waste in our different levels of government and it has gotten criminal in my estimation.

I wonder if the waste of publications changes with administrations. Liberals subscribe to liberal news while conservative subscribing to conservative. Since journalism has become outright propaganda I don’t see it as helping employees performing their job better but with more bias

  7. yes, Kizzie, most dinners are together unless the young folk are gone. They generally eat breakfast with grandpa, and most suppers. Sometimes husband joins us, sometimes not.

  8. Despite the ill week I’ve had there was one cool little God wink kind of thing that happened.

My social media friend across the pond who I met because our cats looked like twins, lost her beloved twin cat, Charlie, last year. I saw a super sweet meme that was overall titled Never Forgotten. It had four frames of a cat looking in on its owner like from the night sky when she is in bed at night, hanging out at the window at night, resting on the end of the bed as the owner sleeps, etc. I thought it was appropriate to send it to her by Messenger. She was very touched by it. She wrote back how much it meant for her to receive that meme on the eve of the day she was to get her replacement rescue cat. Isn’t that the sweetest?

She now is the owner of a white Scottih fold cat named Princess who quickly made herself at home within a few days. My friend’s post yesterday was super sweet, too, as she said Princess sat in her lap on Valentine’s Day.

  9. Good morning, all, on this beautiful snowing morning. Lots of texts and phone calls from twenty three daughter at one am through four am but fortunately we leave our phone in another room, sound off. No word from the deputies though so that is good.

  10. grandson Jack came to my house yesterday. He climbed on a ladder to take off the shade screens on my living room windows. Very high up and only for the young to do

a renter put them on 15 years ago and it made for a very fuzzy view. Now I will get blinds to block the summer heat

    such a blessing

  11. We had a really big storm in the night. It knocked power out to my church’s sanctuary so they did the service in the fellowship hall without livestream. I “visited” my friend’s church online. About fifteen minutes into the service our power went out here at home. At least Art has power at the office.

  12. We had a few inches of snow last night, followed by sleet and then freezing rain this morning, which eventually turned to regular rain. Shortly after getting up and ready for the day this morning, I was out shoveling paths on our porches and down a few stairs. With the freezing rain on top of the snow, it was very heavy.

Due to the icy conditions on the road, our church service was cancelled for today.

(The reason that I had to take care of both porches is because Nightingale and Boy were both gone overnight.)

  13. Mumsee – What if there is a true emergency during the night? Is there another way to reach you, like a landline?

If I hear a text come in while I am in bed, I don’t bother getting up. But if the phone rings, that will get my attention. That usually only happens in the early morning when Boy’s school is calling about a start delay or no school due to bad weather and road conditions.

There have been a couple of times when X called in the middle of the night, but I did not answer. Or maybe once I did.

There was also that time when Hubby was in the hospital, and the call came in at a little before 4:30, informing me that he was dying. That is tough enough to hear at any time of day, but being bleary-eyed at that hour didn’t help.

  14. Just had another cookie. Thanks for the recipe, Janice.

And I was going to throw those bananas away!

Just watched Love Comes Softly with my friend. My handyman got the tv on the wall and hooked up the dvd player.

The book was better but it was a good video and it was filmed close to here.

  15. Mumsee – A true emergency would be something like one of your family members being in some sort of horrible accident or having a heart attack – something that could possibly lead to death within a relatively short period of time.

  16. Kizzie,

I would not be able to get to them quickly anyway. Best to leave that in the hands of the people who can help. If needed, the deputies do know where I live.

But the chances of that happening are so small that I am comfortable letting her call fifteen to thirty times in a few minutes without me answering or even knowing about it. One of the reasons I do not have my voice mail set up.

In general, I try to remind family that I love them and we live with the idea a comet could land on your head anytime.

  17. Oh, I know you would not be able to help. I was just thinking about something like getting to the hospital to be with them (possible to say goodbye) or to comfort a spouse or some such thing.

Maybe this is important to me due to what happened with Hubby, and wanting to be available in case Chickadee might call in the middle of the night for some reason.

Hoping no comets fall on my head.
