“Holy crap. Read the headline Wall Street Journal printed next to the actual transcript of the interview with @JDVance. This is one of the most intentionally dishonest things I’ve seen in a long time. When Did @WSJ turn into the Huffington Post?”
“Our world is dangerously close to descending into all-out peace,” warned Senator Chuck Schumer. “These measured and recklessly diplomatic moves by the Trump administration have brought us closer than we’ve ever been to a complete lack of large-scale bloodshed and amicable relations among all countries around the world. I’ve been unable to sleep at night due to the looming threat of peace.”
“Oh, you mean JD Vance didn’t go to Munich to give the same speech about Russia and China we’ve heard a million times but instead called the Europeans for crushing basic rights while they finger-wag from their ivory towers?
“JD Vance went to the Munich Security Conference and roasted the entire continent of Europe for being petty tyrants and criminalizing freedom of speech, including a British man arrested for praying at an abortion clinic.”
“The frenzy over President @realDonaldTrump’s crackdown on flagrant waste at the nation’s scandal-plagued global aid agency is finally bringing widespread attention to the outrageous programs it funds with taxpayer dollars and many Americans may not realize it has been occurring for years under both Democratic and Republican administrations.”
“Can’t wait to hear the explanation for why this is OK.”
I know I said I wasn’t going to comment anymore, but I decided to take this as a challenge. 😀
There is not much available on that, but I did find this piece that mentions $8 million for subscriptions to Politico – specifically, Politico Pro.
~~~ “The media company acknowledged government agencies subscribe to its pro service, just like corporations do. “The value of this journalism is clear, as evidenced by our subscription re-enlistment rates,” Politico’s leaders said. The news outlet said it welcomes conversations with government subscribers “and are confident that most will see the continued value.”
In a statement, the AP said that the federal government has “long been an AP customer — through both Democratic and Republican administrations.” […] “It’s quite common for governments to have contracts with news organizations for their content.”
It is not uncommon for federal employees to expense premium news subscriptions that provide the facts and analysis they require to do their jobs.” ~~~
So I assume that the WSJ must be one of the sources that government employees have subscriptions to.
On one hand, I realize that companies often pay for things that benefit their employees in doing their jobs. On the other hand, however, when it comes to government employees, that is using taxpayer money, which doesn’t sit right with many of us. I’m sure they can afford their own subscriptions.
Upper management would probably have subscriptions, but no one in their right mind would spend billions unless they just didn’t care about the money. And that is the problem in a nutshell.
Debra – Yes, it is easier to spend other people’s money than ones own. That’s why businesses in general often have a problem with employee theft of various office supplies. Many people don’t think that taking a little something here and there is a big deal.
JD Vance gave an excellent speech in Munich warning Europe about their attack on free speech. He’s going to be a formidable candidate in 4 years.
7.8 million for subscriptions?
I call waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars.
And it’s BS.
