Good morning! We have one very small ice slick left on the driveway this morning. The temp is currently 29°
We were out early to get the car emissions check but the service guy was not there. Still longing for businesses to honor their times of opening and closing. We have no choice about when to get it done so Art can honor his opening time for his business.
That’s cold for GA! One y’all will not soon forget! I am looking forward to the Birthday tree photos already Janice!
13 degrees and snowing here… it is beautiful . The fox and deer have come through in search of their breakfast. Hoping Mr fox found some vermin lurking about the property. The deer munched on some of the bushes and pines.
Good morning all, hurrying and scurrying here. Husband was getting set to head to Boise when he received a text saying twenty three’s ex landlord could only meet at ten this morning. He is in from Colorado. He and husband were going to check out the damage daughter did while living in the hotel so they can come up with what she will owe to repair and clean. It should be substantial. She clogged the sink and left the water running in it, several months ago. Flooded her room and the office below.
We’re anticipating rain tomorrow and Monday, which is so needed but can bring problems of its own in the fire areas where the dense hillside chaparral and brush — overgrown from two heavy rain years followed by more drought (this will be the first significant rain since summer) — are burned off and gone, exposing charred dirt.
Last I read they weren’t anticipating a serious mudslide event this time as rain is expected to be generally light (?) this weekend.
This morning’s forecast on my phone now says rain today/tomorrow/Monday but the heaviest will be Sunday.
We’ve also had mudslides on our local peninsula (our port down is at the base of that hillside) for the past few years, destroying no shortage of ocean-view homes and roads from the land movement. Underground pumps that have been installed to divert and remove some of the water have helped immensely, but so has this long stretch of dry weather we’ve had.
I have errands to run and will be going out for dinner later today with a friend. So good to have a “day off” from the grind.
I think it was Cheryl who used to post, “God’s in his heaven and all’s right with the world.”
In his hands, no matter how things may look to us.
Well, I think I may have spoken too soon yesterday about my ‘well behaved’ blue jay. He’s not actually bothering anyone else, but he sat at the bird feeder for a full minute slinging seed left and right off the feeder. He was quite deliberately going after what he specifically wanted (the peanuts I presume). A male cardinal just swooped down and carried his lady friend away to the neighbor’s tree. I’m sitting at the window with popcorn watching the display. These feathery fluff balls are so beautiful and interesting. And they can be so different—and sound so different from each other. :–)
I loved having a bird feeder in my backyard some years ago, but it created a crazy chain of potentially disastrous consequences —
The squirrels found ways to get the seed out of my “squirrel-proof” feeder.
My Australian shepherd at the time, crazy-looking with pinwheel eyes, was obsessed with squirrels.
And all of that resulted in nail-biting (me), top speed chases throughout the backyard, in circles, around and up trees, back and forth, the squirrels, chattering wildly – the dog right on their bushy tails but never “quite” catching one (whew).
But it was only a matter of time … So the bird feeder came down.
When we pulled into our driveway this morning, a dove swooped down and landed in front of the car. Then it flew up to our roof. Art stopped the car in wonder. I shared with him about your aggressive doves, Debta.
Often I toss out various crumbs for the birds under the Birthday Tree. It was in that vicinity that the dove landed. Probably indicating I need to get with the food assistance program.
Janice, I told you those doe-eyed doves are rascals! Deceptively beautiful. :–)
DJ, we didn’t get a bird feeder until our last dog (he’s my avatar) died in 2018. We were so heartbroken that it took us almost 5 years to get another dachshund. In the meantime, we became interested in the local mockingbirds who were swooping down on us as we did yard work. We put the feeder up especially for them, but everyone else came instead. A happy accident. We had a small problem with squirrels at first, but the baffle that came with the feeder and pole did a decent job and the loss of a couple of neighboring trees helped discourage them also.
last July I stopped with my granddaughter to visit a sculptor’s studio, van Howd. I believe he was an artist in residence for Reagan. The gal in charge is my daughters best friend
she even took us in back where you could see the work he had done on a life size elephant. He and his wife have been to Africa many times. While there I saw another statue, also life size. It was president Trump and they had six more wrapped up ready to ship
I went for a walk and two separate ladies greeted me before I greeted them. I am usually the first to make utterance. They were so happy about the warmer sunny weather. One called out to me from her back deck sharing that she was going to cook dinner outside! I said that as I walked, I smelled smoke and I threw up my hands and told her I had praised God. It was 50°!!!
My friend had planned to go with me to Sunday school tomorrow but had to cancel. She said she’d take me next week. It will be online church again for me.
The video part of this video is horrible, mostly because they don’t show the victim (who survived) and so they cover most of the image through most of the video. But the story it tells is fascinating and it took place in Idaho, so I thought some of you might be interested.
A man breaks into the home of an 85-year-old woman (while her son sleeps in the basement and never hears anything). He handcuffs her to a chair and pistol whips her. But he chose the wrong “victim,” because he is the one who ends up shot dead on the floor, because she managed to get to another gun that she had under her pillow. . . . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ah-5HWyhnVs

Cheryl got new pajamas, a knee length sherpa lined plush sweatshirt. It has a side pocket on each side, and a kangaroo pouch type top opening. It’s actually made for your cats to snuggle with you.
Well it took a week, but Cheryl finally coaxed Gemma into the pouch. They both enjoyed it. 😉 🐈
The neighbor’s black and white kitty, LiLu, likes to hang out on my front porch occasionally. I talk to her but she’s a little standoffish so need to let her feel safe enough to come to me at some point (she has in the past but that’s been a couple years ago).
Nice to see a black-and-white cat on my porch again, she and Annie Oakley looked very much alike, it was hard to tell them apart from the distance.
No church for us today. I sent daughter out to warm up the car. My dad called me over to tell me he was not going because he can’t hear. We are not leaving him alone and Mike is in Boise. We knew this was coming.
So sorry, Mumsee, that he has developed that problem. Can he be checked for ear wax buildup? Or other temporary causes of hearing loss? I hope and pray it is not permanent.
Janice, the problem is he is deaf and has been so for many years. He got marginal help from hearing aids in the past but really not anymore. We put the dr’s suggested solution in his ears. He was a logger for many years. Think: chainsaws, bulldozers, tractors, with no hearing protection. And he can no longer read well enough to decipher closed captioning.
Somehow I had missed that about your Dad, Mumsee. I assume his vision allowed him to see the people at church, and maybe they hugged on him and he liked that? I am sad for you if you have to give up going to church for a season.
I have wondered, though, if perhaps he is already saved, but doesn’t know how to express it. It was the fact that he enjoyed going to church so much that made me wonder about that.
Janice and Kizzie: my dad has had hearing aids for at least forty years. Currently, he only allows the right one to be put in but usually takes it out within five minutes because he thinks it is a growth in his ear. I have found it on his end table, his nightstand, pockets, in his chair, on the floor, in his other chair, in his walker, on his cookie plate, on his dinner plate, and in the trash.
We tried headphones but he would not keep them on more than fifteen seconds. A combination of putting the aid in right before my brother calls, closed captioning, and silence in the house seems to help him catch a good half of the conversation.
At church, people hug him, shake hands, attempt to chat with him, and he smiles through it all and tries to converse. On the drive home he comments that nobody spoke with him again.
Kizzie and Janice: as to him being a Christian, he knows the deal. He apparently did go to church and Sunday School in his days at home as his mom was a believer and saw to it. Nothing terribly exciting around here these days but we are moving along.

Our weather: ~ “Flood watch to begin Sunday as rain, and possibly hail, bears down on LA” ~
The rain is surely needed, our first in 10 months, and will also bring snow to our mountains.
And it should douse what’s left of our still-burning wildfires.
But now the mudslide concerns.

We will be warmer for a few days, but rain is expected to once again keep people indoors (they are stir crazy already).
Has anyone tried the Blue Diamond Nut Thins crackers? They are very good for non-gluton folks. Just a tad bit addictive because of the nice crunch.

Actually not, since in Tucson it rarely snows, especially more than an inch or two. This snow was 4 or more.
