  1. Sunny but appears to be some smoke in the sky above.

I have an assigned fire-related story to do today (the loss of — and impacts on — day care centers), but I was up early so I have been catching up with my Scripture reading. Work day begins shortly.

  2. Today is Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day, and I forgot to wear purple! (Purple is our awareness color.) But I changed my top after seeing a Facebook post reminding me about the day.

Most likely, the only people who will see me today will be Boy and Nightingale, but I like to participate with wearing purple anyway.

  3. And Heidi and Janey … Yeah, they’re not “people” but they’ll see you, too, with their happy little expectant faces!

“Will she feed us now? Let us go outside? … ”

Blessings to you Kizzie and others who face some of those same challenges with that condition. I’d never heard of it until knowing you.

  4. Daughter is making lasagna for dinner today. We eat at noon. She is cutting it tight as she is still making the noodles, she started mixing the flour, salt, eggs, and water nearly two hours ago but she is hanging in there! She has made it this way before and we all really enjoy it. Worth the effort.

  5. I’ve had lasagna with homemade noodles at a restaurant, and it was delicious. Seems the restaurant was named Mama Leoni’s, and Mama did Italian food the best! That place has long been gone. Nice memory.

We are up to 46°. I should take advantage and do some laundry, but I may choose to wait. My piles could get a bit higher before I tackle them. I hate to waste water, and we have had so much extra dripping of the tap water later.

Purple is a wonderful color choice, Kizzie. Maybe put a photo on Facebook of yourself in the purple and explain what it’s about to make more people aware? If I post a photo of myself in new glasses or with a fresh haircut, I get more likes that I do from other type posts.

  6. They are at my house Janice!! Blue jays are such a pretty color but they are menacing!

I love homemade pasta and even more so when I don’t have to make it. A precious friend started a fresh pasta business a few years ago when she moved to Appleton WI. Everything freshly ground and sourced from local farmers. She named her business Dalla Terra. Sadly she passed away 5 years ago…but is now in the presence of our Lord…she loved Him so and faithfully served Him. Her son and his wife quit their engineering jobs and now carry on Cyndi’s dream. I just ordered more pasta from them last night.

  7. There is a blue jay that comes to my feeder once or twice a week. I have also heard that they are very aggressive, but I have to say mine isn’t. He’s quite polite, doesn’t stay long or gobble all the peanuts before he leaves. The more aggressive birds, surprisingly, are the morning (or is it mourning) doves. They actively try to drive other birds away to such an extent that if I see more than 3 at a time or if those 3 stay too long, I will open the door and walk toward the feeder to let them know they have to share the food. The cardinals are mostly competitive with each other, so other breeds can still share the feeder with them. The brown thrasher and the woodpeckers usually come when others are not present, although I have seen a woodpecker scoot the doves out of the way for peanuts. They seem to really like the peanuts and are not afraid to waive that long sharp bill around to get them. But the woodpecker seems more self-assured than actually aggressive.

  8. Early in our marriage (and before I met him), Hubby was a chef-manager of a kitchen at a girls school in Massachusetts. One of his employees was an older woman from Italy named Emilia, but she went by Emily. (Yes, she inspired the name Emily for a certain person.)

Until retiring, Emily and her husband had owned an Italian restaurant. She made an incredibly delicious lasagna! As others mentioned above, she made the noodles from scratch, nice and thin, and she used a bechamel sauce in it, too. (That was in place of something else, but I forget which ingredient.)

Knowing how much I loved her lasagna, Emily would make one now and then, take it to work and send it home with Hubby. 🙂

  9. When I was in 1st Grade we had several inches of snow, which in Tucson is a big deal. Our Catholic school stayed open so we had to go. After recess, there was a banging on the door. The classroom door opened onto a breezeway with the large patio. The teacher opened the door and a nun came running across the classroom to the other door. A priest followed her and threw a snowball at her, hitting the door instead.

Needles to say we children were shocked and the teacher had a hard time getting us settled down.
