  1. Beware of “churches” and their “leaders” pushing and lecturing to allow illegals into the US when they have a financial interest in doing so.

    The Episcopal Church should drop the pretense of being a religious institution and embrace its true identity: the progressive wing of the Democratic Party in clerical robes.”

  4. The point Dj is the folks are angry that any so called church would be actively assisting in the invasion of 15 million illegals for monetary gain.

    And people should be outraged that a nonprofit church is repeatedly violating tax law and raking in federal govt cash for what is essentially a human smuggling operation that disappeared 340,000 kids to who knows where.

    I think a little righteous anger might be appropriate, although, as you know, it’s the indignation of it all that sometimes drives folks to somewhat embellish their version. Attached link reading helps to understand where it is the poster comes from.

    Williams was convicted by the Biden Justice Department for protesting at an abortion clinic.

    Biden’s DOJ used the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) act to slap on felony conspiracy charges to what would have been lighter sentences.

    Williams was sentenced to 41 months in prison, meaning she would have missed much of her child’s childhood.

    The new footage comes as the Trump White House released photos of migrants lining up to board deportation fights.

  10. I have been reading Creeds, Confessions, Catechisms, edited by Chad Van Dixhoorn. In the Augsburg Confession from mid fifteen hundreds about how things had crept into the churches and needed to be addressed. Things drawing folk and away from the Truth or adding unnecessary burdens. The same reason the Nicene (computer changed it to Niceness) Creed was put out there in early three hundreds. We need to be aware and we need to address those things today as they continue to blur the message.

  11. From a biblical counselor: “As God’s image-bearers we have the capacity for godly anger. But sin has corrupted our hearts, so we also have the capacity for resentment and hatred. What started out as good becomes selfish and destructive. The Bible is shockingly honest about anger’s cause and very encouraging about its cure.”

    We need to guard our hearts and minds.

    “Three defendants in their early 20s talked a lot about a stolen election, how their country was stolen and how they were angry on social media. They all lived in different states and they only communicated via social media because of their political affiliation. They did not know each other before that, and they never said anything other than we should all go to the same rally that is being held in DC.

    They decided to meet in DC on J6. They had multiple conversations that they had to be there in the event that DC “burns down” so they could stop it. If you look at other statements they had made in the past, it was clear that they were referencing the riots that happened in 2020 and how if Donald Trump ended up winning after the certification was challenged, they were worried that Washington DC was going to be burned down. All three of them seperately decided to go to a rally where tens of thousands of people decided to attend.

    One of them had a wooden club. They entered the capital. They pushed a large Trump sign in front of a door. They yelled and screamed along with everybody else who was yelling and screaming as they were being tear gassed. They were in the middle of a fairly large crowd, so of course there was pushing because when you put 1000 protesters in the same spot and you tear gas them, there will be pushing and shoving.

    They did not touch a police officer. They did not hit a police officer. They did not break anything they did not damage anything.

    They did speak a lot about a stolen election right before they came to DC. They did call Joe Biden and the federal government a lot of names on social media.

    For this they were charged with:

    – Conspiracy to commit obstruction of an official proceeding;

    – Obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting;

    – Civil disorder;- Assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers, using a dangerous weapon and aiding and abetting;

    – Entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon;

    – Disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon;

    – Impeding ingress or egress in a restricted building or grounds and aiding and abetting;

    – Engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds with a deadly or dangerous weapon and aiding and abetting;

    – Carrying a dangerous weapon in a capital ground or building;

    – Disorderly conduct in a building or grounds;

    – Impeding passage through the grounds or building and aiding and abetting;

    – Acts of physical violence in the capital grounds or building; and

    – Parading, demonstrating or picketing in a capital building.

    Three guys in their early 20s, none of them have had a prior criminal record, these are first time nonviolent offenders. Yes I said non-violent because pushing a sign and being pushed and shoved, and maybe accidentally pushing and shoving people in the middle of a riot is not a violent offender.

    The DOJ threw in a conspiracy charge because only one of them had a wooden club and they wanted to charge all three of them with all of those deadly weapons charges.

    So they overcharged them to the point where it would cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars to have an attorney try to fight this or they could just accept the plea deal that was shoved down their throat that gave them 41 months in prison.

    Four years in prison for pushing a sign, closing a door and being in the middle of a push and shove situation during a riot while being tear gassed.

    And the entire time this was going on they were never released on bond.

    You tell me, do you think that is a gross abuse of power?”

  16. Kathaleena – re: your comment last night on yesterday’s thread –

    My comment about the female bishop speaking in a soft voice was not meant to defend her intent. It was only in response to the accusations I have read that included making it seem as if her tone was harsh. Often we can “hear” a voice differently when we disagree with the message. (That goes for how we interpret the tone of written communication as well.)

    Although I agree with DJ that that particular snippet of what she said seemed to merely be a request “, , ,for kindness toward people, it was not a request or lecture to openly to endorse gay behavior or illegal immigration,” I also think that she was lightly treading on political ground, especially given what we know of her. But it is too bad that urging mercy can be seen as a political statement.

    (FTR, I do not agree with politics coming from the pulpit in any kind of church.)

    Like

  17. And I’d also add that — if asked — I would have advised the bishop not to “go there,” it would (in my view) be unwise. It was borderline and likely would be heard by some in the pews on that particular day as political.

    So I agree that a “political nudge” (rather than all out “lecture” though I still have no idea how long her overall remarks ran) was what was behind the comment even though it was also delivered with some restraint — not as strongly as I’m sure others would have preferred. It was perhaps seen by the speaker as a line-straddle and something she felt strongly about addressing.

    All of this, again, makes me quite grateful for the denomination and church of which I’m currently a member. Like all of us in a fallen world, institutions, including the church (this will be a challenging time in that realm I’m thinking) can be lured by the “zeitgeist” of the age (and it’s partly divisive politics in ours right now).

    I know “liberal Christians” who are casual (some longtime) friends and I try not the break the communication between us, I like to keep that avenue open. I view them as (perhaps/probably?) believers who aren’t well catechized or discipled so they’re not as familiar with Scripture in dealing with world issues. So I also see them, partly/possibly, as part of the overall mission field God providentially brings us in contact with in some seasons.

    Sin continues to infect all of us and this world all around us, so I tend to revisit Jesus’ words and examples / teachings / responses while he was on earth as a general guideline for my attitudes and behavior toward others.

    I’m not one of the “What would Jesus do?” folks — that gives us way too much credit and power as still very flawed followers — but I think we can always learn from those New Testament accounts.

  18. And as for Mr. Trump taking offense — later commenting / posting about the perceived offense (as he has “professed” the faith as well?), a better response would have been to let it go.

  19. Pres Trump was out of line to speak like that as a believer. But, as you mentioned not all believers have the same teaching and he has years of harsh New York speak to get past, though we all have the same Holy Spirit teaching us.

    I agree there are many believers in the liberal churches as there are in the conservative. And those should not even be labels on churches. They should know us by our love.

    I did not hear her sermon but have no problem with a Christian calling another out but it should be done privately and both should have started there. Or she may have just been encouraging him to remember mercy, which can be done as people are sent to their home countries. He may have taken it that way but his advisors riled him up. I hope not.

  20. mumsee, (first graph) understood, though one also looks for evidence of the faith and a change, some growth. So I am withholding an opinion on the validity of his faith, not knowing him or being close enough to observe evidences or see any public changes.

    Admittedly, I have a (healthy) skepticism when it comes to those in the public light and seeking favor or votes or support — we are human and the faith, sadly, can be (and has been rather frequently) used to curry favor and advancement and publicity, votes, money … The awkward photo op that Trump hastily arranged — holding a Bible up in front of that very same church during some crisis or other in his first term — sticks in my mind.

    We are to be tender — but also wise.

    So I don’t know and would not assume faith or no faith.

    Those with liberal politics can also be in the faith (and well grounded in Scripture, maybe with blind spots in interpretation when it comes to current affairs, but we all have those and those issues aren’t always so black-and-white if they’re not specifically spelled out in Scriptures).

Letting it go after having elevated the sermon to national significance by his mere presence would not have been gracious–it would have been cowardly. He responded in a way consistent with his personality and character. And that’s appropriate. People who dislike his personality and/or his character will not be satisfied with any answer he’s likely to give.

  22. Love and scriptural orthodoxy are both important in churches.

    (I also realize some who grew up in mainline Protestant churches that have since gone wayward are in sometimes difficult positions as they are older and not that open to changing church/denominational loyalty that easily.)

    Those denominations are struggling with outright church splits in some cases.

  23. Actually, those in the public eye (as in someone who’s very visible, very prominent, on a celebrity-like scale whatever field they’re in, including politics) — and now is newly converted would maybe do best by withdrawing from the public eye for a while as they get their bearings, to become grounded in the faith.

    I worry about celebrities who publicly announce they’re now a Christian and then they’re given all this followup publicity (and the church those around them directly can be guilty of showering them with way too much attention and publicity as well).

    Some drift if it wasn’t authentic to begin with; others who have genuinely experienced new life may find it very difficult to grow and get the needed grounding (think about the soils parable) in that environment and that’s dangerous, too.

    -“According to former employees, [FBI Assistant Director] Christman has promoted multiple women with whom he appears to have engaged in inappropriate relationships. For instance, former employees have reported to Empower Oversight that AD Christman and a female CJIS employee were observed in a state of undress on a Saturday night in the CJIS gymnasium. That female employee has been promoted quickly.”

    -“Further, during an all-employee conference, AD Christman reportedly claimed to have nightly phone calls with a female employee who did not report directly to him. This employee was given three awards in a short period of time, with monetary compensation totaling an estimated $15,000.”

    “. . . when Christman has been challenged on his behavior, he reportedly responds by threatening to move CJIS from West Virginia, which would require the relocation of hundreds of native West Virginians. He has also retaliated against employees by moving them into temporary positions for ‘cross-training’. . .”

    The above very public allegations (and others) came to light April 1, 2024, when Empower Oversight, a well-respected national non-profit, issued the following press release and accompanying letter and FOIA filing: empowr.us/whistleblowers…

    Don’t Fear the Storm

    Today I’m going to share the message with you I gave at the gala in D.C. this past Sunday night. I’ve shared some of the content in previous posts, but even if some is familiar to the faithful listeners, I pray it inspires you.

    “Ronald Reagan once told the following story:

    ‘A fellow was running for office as a Republican in a heavily Democratic State and stopped by a farm to do some campaigning. When the farmer heard he was a Republican, his jaw dropped, and he said, “You wait right here while I get Ma. She’s never seen a Republican.”

    ‘So, he went to get Ma.

    ‘While they were gone, the candidate looked around for a platform from which to give his speech. The only thing he could find was a pile of that stuff that Bess Truman took 35 years trying to get Harry to call fertilizer. So, he got up on that mound, and when they came back, he gave his speech. At the end of it, the farmer said, “That’s the first time I ever heard a Republican speech.”

    ‘The candidate said, “That’s the first time I’ve ever given a Republican speech from a Democratic platform.’(1)

    The Rooster

    “Speaking of unpleasant debris piles…the story is told of a man named Samuel S. Scull, who settled in the Arizona desert with his family.

    “One night, a fierce desert storm struck with rain, hail, and high winds. At daybreak, fearing what he might find, Samuel went out to survey their loss.

    “It was devastating. The hail had beaten the garden into the ground; the house was partially unroofed; the henhouse was a pile of debris, and dead chickens were scattered about. Destruction and devastation were everywhere.

    “While standing dazed, evaluating the mess and wondering about the future, Scull heard a stirring in the rubble that had once been the henhouse. A rooster was climbing out of it. The old rooster was dripping wet, bloody, and most of his feathers were blown away. But as the sun came over the eastern horizon, something stirred in his DNA. The pain, blood, bruises, and devastation no longer controlled him. He climbed until he had reached the highest board in the pile, flapped his bony wings, stuck out his chest, and proudly crowed.(2)

    “Why?

    “It was his nature, wired into his DNA, to awaken the world and announce a new day. And no amount of devastation could overcome that nature.

    “And that’s when the storm lost its power to destroy Samuel Scull.

    The American Spirit

    “It appears to me that citizens of nations take on a national DNA, and the American spirit is much like that rooster. I have a theory about this, which is that somehow God took the hearts of our Founding Fathers and programmed them into the American DNA, shaping the American spirit. It seems that their love of liberty and the willingness to preserve it at all costs made their way into America’s genetic code. Perhaps God planted the heart of Patrick Henry – ‘Give me liberty or give me death’ – into our collective DNA. Maybe lesser known Lewis Morris’ willingness to sacrifice for freedom’s cause found its way into our cells. Lewis was the guy who, when warned by his brother not to sign the Declaration of Independence because of the likely cost, simply said, ‘Damn the consequences; give me the pen.’(3)

    “Could that have been when the American spirit took root?

    “Perhaps our Creator looked down at patriot Sam Adams – instigator of the Boston Tea Party, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and ‘Father of the American Revolution’(4) – and told the DNA angels, ‘Put some of him in the American psyche. Because when times get hard, the cultural storms come, and the debris piles up – when the border is open, and the terrorists arrive; when the foundations are destroyed, and the government becomes corrupt; when decency and common sense are abandoned, and children are being mutilated – I’m going to need some patriotic Americans who will climb to the top of the devastation and boldly announce that the storm will NOT destroy us, and declare that a new day has begun.’

    Patriotism

    “Some today would actually have us believe that patriotism is inappropriate. There are even Christians who consider it unbiblical, labeling it ‘Christian Nationalism’ and superimposing on us things we don’t believe. But our English word ‘patriot’ comes from the Greek word for ‘father,’ pater.(5) Why? Because fathers reproduce themselves, passing on their nature, their beliefs, their hearts, and vision. And in the context of nations, we call this offspring ‘patriots.’ If you don’t like patriotism, you don’t like fathers.

    “Now, what must we do when a mutation occurs, creating a genetic disorder…when the generational flow from the Founding Fathers is interrupted…when the American spirit and patriotism seem to have been lost to liars, revisionists, lovers of self, globalists, godless politicians, and though it pains me to say it, weak preachers? Well, the recovery begins with someone climbing the debris pile and shouting, ‘No!!! Our roots are NOT dead! And it is NOT in our nature to surrender to the storm! We will NOT give up our God-given destiny or surrender our inheritance!’

    “When Sam Adams was told by James Warren in 1772, three years before the revolution, that many towns and people were faltering in their willingness to face the British storm, he climbed the debris pile and said, ‘Nil desperandum,’ (that’s Latin, and Adam’s interpreted it) ‘Never Despair’.(6) That is our motto. All are NOT dead, and where there is a SPARK of patriotic fire, we will rekindle it!!!’

    “This is occurring in America today.

    “Here are two more quotes from ‘Rooster’ Adams, ‘Father of the American Revolution,’ and a pater to millions of patriots.

    “In 1777 things were not yet going well for Americans in the Revolutionary War. As the delegates in York considered the plausibility of achieving independence from England, Adams addressed them, stating his firm conviction: ‘We have appealed to Heaven for the justice of our cause, and in Heaven, we have placed our trust. Numerous have been the manifestations of God’s Providence in sustaining us… We shall never be abandoned by Heaven while we act worthy of its aid and protection.’(7)

    “In 1780, at the end of the war, ‘Prophet’ Adams spoke into our day: ‘If ever the time should come when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.’(8)

    “And here we are.

    “I leave you with one more quote, this one the words of a Jewish patriot and prophet named Isaiah. He spoke a word from God, found in chapter one, verse 26, of the book that bears his name. In the Voice Translation it reads: ‘I will bring back legislators who have integrity, people like your founding fathers—principled decision-makers. Then your city will be called honorable and just, a model of ethics, trustworthy, and strong.’

    “Don’t fear the storm.”(9)

    Pray with me:

    Father, You have placed in us an overcoming spirit. We are more than conquerors through Christ (Romans 8:37), partakers of His divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). We also have received a heritage of bravery and liberty from our Founding Fathers. We will not cower to the spiritual storm that has brought devastation to our nation and its culture. We will not fear evil, just as You instructed us.

    We thank You for fathers, paters, who prophetically spoke over America Your divine purpose for her, and others who sought You for America’s Constitution and Bill of Rights. As the offspring of these paters, we are delighted to accept their legacy, making us patriots. We boldly declare that this will not be stolen from us by lying politicians, a deceitful media, propagandizing educators, or deceived preachers. We have laid hold of Your destiny for our nation and will not surrender it.

    We ask for a revival that saves millions spiritually and reforms us nationally. Infuse Kingdom ideals back into American life, and the King’s commission back into our hearts. We stand on the rubble of humanism, secularism, Marxism, wokism, and all other philosophies satan has used to form the storm, declaring that it is our nature to conquer, and welcoming a new day.

    Protect and lead our government, revive the church, and send the great awakening we need. All this we ask in Yeshua’s name. Amen.

    Our decree:

    We decree that we do not fear storms; we conquer them.
