  1. We were up to 12 degrees. My daughter said she was 40 degrees warmer than yesterday. I haven’t done the math myself, but I know my husband has it way too warm in this house! The outside is beautiful. The trees are covered in fresh snow, and it is gently falling.

  2. The good thing about this cold and the icy roads is that it keeps things quiet. I am sure some crime on the streets is down, but it might mean domestic abuse escalates. I thought this morning that everyone being stuck inside like this reminds me of Covid days.

  3. Don’t slip.

Neighbors’ black-and-white cat is on my porch again this morning, LiLu. She’s standoffish but I always talk (nice) to her which she seems to like.

  4. Sun is shining here. 70 degrees. Possible rain Sunday-Monday, but that’s a worry now, too, in the fire zones where the new concern would be mudslides taking out the houses still standing.

  5. New (Hughes) fire is close to my friend’s daughter & her family, looks like they’re in the evacuation warning zone if not the full evacuation zone now — winds and fire moving toward them.

  6. I finally ventured out to the grocery today. It was snowing, windy and 15 degrees in town❄️🥶 I returned home (higher elevation) and it was blue sky, sunshine, windy and 17 degrees.

The photos of the Deep South snow are fascinating! Snow drifts on the beach!

  7. Currently eighteen here. My dad just got back from checking the mail. Every day my husband drives my dad up to check the mail, about two minutes. But he takes a “shortcut” getting home. Today’s was a little over two hours.

  8. NJ, you were brave to venture out.

    I. myself, ventured out via the yard to the garbage bin still on the street from Monday’s pickup that never happened. I dared not walk on the icy driveway.

This evening I made roasted butternut squash seasoned with cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. It was delicious. I had never done that before. It seemed a bit difficult to peel and cut up the squash. Is there a better way?
