This Executive Order is quite interesting. It’s called ‘Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity. It mandates that all federal DEI staff be put on indefinite paid leave as of 5 pm yesterday, and is obviously a preparation for termination. It also details how it’s going to root out DEI from the private sector by mandating that all federal agencies name ‘up to nine’ publicly traded companies that they give contracts to that still have DEI programs. The purpose is to take those contracts or deny contracts to those companies. This explains why so many large companies like Walmart, Ford, McDonalds, and Meta have recently reduced or dropped DEI programs. Way to go Trump.
I think when immigration is controlled well it can be much more humane. After the border is tightly controlled, I would like to see a program started that would allow people who have lived here a long time and have created families here to apply for legal status. If they are productive, positively tied to the community with stable families and have committed no other crimes then they should be legalized. I don’t like the idea of so many people living in the shadows. Both political parties have constituents that benefit from fearful people living in the shadows, and that’s not righteous. Both political parties should come together and solve this problem in a fair and humane fashion.
“Democrats have put a HOLD on Pam Bondi’s nomination, delaying Bondi’s confirmation as Attorney General for at least 7 days, per Sen. Grassley
It must be because she absolutely HUMILIATED Adam Schiff.
Democrats are once again playing games to subvert the will of the American people, which was to give Trump and his appointees an overwhelming mandate.”
The opportunity for a fair and just solution to immigration has existed for as long as the problem has. But when weak men and women choose the party line and talking points, gridlock is what you get, not solutions.
And here we are nearly 50 years after Reagans last amnesty, with still no solutions.
Weak leaders comes at a cost. Entrenched weak leaders ensure that cost is felt over generations.
Term limits would guarantee a solution, then there’s noreason to not do the right thing because of reelection considerations.
All those people living in fear in the shadows are open to crimes of blackmail and bribery to keep their secret. It is so sad that many are in that situation. They can easily be manipulated. Many of the long term unknowns can’t get services for fear of being reported. They are not like the new illegals that had so much handed to them up front.
I wondered about that ‘preacher’ lady at the Cathedral saying that they (illegals) pay taxes. Most pay no income tax, but pay sales taxes for purchases, of course.
Whenever I hear mention of an illegal working for someone, I truly wish I’d never been told. Also, I never like to hear of anyone who does not report and pay taxes on their full income.
Choosing “party lines” — and never seeing another viewpoint no matter what comes — has very real dangers, on both sides of politics. (not talking about the church here)
We are called to guard our minds and our souls. That most definitely includes the fallen realm of politics, a danger which seems to be on display in recent years in the U.S. (and very much is still the case in January 2025).
So far the DOGE’s mandate looks pretty small. Setting aside definitions, organizational details, and boilerplate “general provisions”, DOGE’s assignment comes down to this:
Section 1. Purpose. This Executive Order establishes the Department of Government Efficiency to implement the President’s DOGE Agenda, by modernizing Federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity.
…
Sec. 3. DOGE Structure. (a) Reorganization and Renaming of the United States Digital Service. The United States Digital Service is hereby publicly renamed as the United States DOGE Service (USDS) and shall be established in the Executive Office of the President.
…
Sec. 4. Modernizing Federal Technology and Software to Maximize Efficiency and Productivity. (a) The USDS Administrator shall commence a Software Modernization Initiative to improve the quality and efficiency of government-wide software, network infrastructure, and information technology (IT) systems. Among other things, the USDS Administrator shall work with Agency Heads to promote inter-operability between agency networks and systems, ensure data integrity, and facilitate responsible data collection and synchronization.
Lol. I get it now. I get why Elon and Vivek are involved. Doge is going to save money by spending money. Updating or “modernizing” software is an enormously expensive project . It may be worth doing and it may or may not save money in the long run, but in the short run, it costs big.
The bishop chose to deliver the message of mercy and compassion — that message is certainly in the Bible especially in the NT. Now some people might want to hear some OT style “smite the enemies” rhetoric but given the occasion, I would think the former is more appropriate.
I was struck by Trump’s posture — if I sat like that, my dad would have given a hit on the thigh to straighten up and pay attention. Another picture floating on the internet gives the impression that Trump’s dozing — people are asking if he’s having a senior moment. This will be a theme for the next four years. You may not like the message — but its church, show respect, sit up and pay attention.
(oh, I forgot his tweet. Show some respect — if you have nothing good to say, don’t say anything. Trump sat there sulking and then whined on social media. People say the left is sensitive and needs safe spaces…..)
I wonder about Border stats. If few are captured, does that mean the problem went away or does it mean the border patrol is lazy or incompetent. Maybe the migrants are scared and aren’t trying? If the number of apprehensions go up does that mean the border patrol is working hard or is there more people trying? Given the current weather, perhaps there’s simply less people trying
Talking about the weather — forget Gulf of America, rename it Gulf of Canada — New Orleans has more snow than my front yard (mind you its -20C here)
The J6 pardons raise the question – the same one we raised when Biden gave out pardons. Does this mean the rioters are acknowledging their guilt when accepting the pardon? Can they still take the fifth?
The police union which endorsed Trump now says the pardons set the precedent. Were they paying attention when they endorsed Trump?
The Senate Democrats are doing exactly what they should be doing as the loyal opposition. Through delay and hearings, they need to force Republicans to justify their decisions. Expect more of this and its necessary element of democracy — checks, balances, self correcting mechanisms, etc. Besides the Democrats and Republicans represent roughly 50% of the voting public.
Bondi is a bad candidate anyway — Did the $25 000 donation to her PAC affect her decision not to join the class action suit against Trump University? When asked about birthright citizenship she said she would study it. The correct answer is the 14th Ammendment and the courts — she could have easily brushed the question aside but said she’d study it?? If you want to be Attorney General, you should know the current law (over 100 years worth of court decisions).
Homan went on to repeat that while all illegal immigrants are once again subject to deportation, the Trump administration is going to direct the current resources on hand to go after public safety threats.
“And just yesterday, in the last 24 hours, ICE arrested over 308 serious criminals. Some of them were murderers. Some of them were rapists. Some of them raped a child. Some were a sexual assault of a child. So ICE is doing their job, and they’re prioritizing just as the president said they would. So ICE is performing excellent right now out in the field. And they’re going to continue every day,” he continued.
The “bishop” was lecturing. She attempted to use the name of our Savior to fit her narrative. Her view of mercy and compassion was one of allowing lawlessness and woke policy. She would rather live in a Godless society than to follow biblical morality. She would rather mutilate a child with gender confusion than help that child understand.
And OT “smite thy enemy”? Reading the Word of God all leads up to the redemption of sinners through the sacrifice of the Saviour. There is a plan…and it is all through His compassion and mercy upon us…..
Logically, it seems a lot of gender confusion in children is planted by adults speaking into the children’s lives with their bias. I found it odd that the woman chose to speak about gender confusion in children. She could have spoken for all transgenders, but she went for the extreme because it is a hot button topic. I have compassion for those who are genuinely confused who are of an age to understand, but children are being hurt by the adults directing them to think certain things about themselves. I suppose I should feel compassion for her in her lostness.
Actually, comfort the sojourner was Old Testament. The Hebrews were told to remember their history and to be kind to the sojourner, either passing through or living there for a while or lifetime. There is a lot of that in the O T.
”the people in our country who are scared right now” are only scared due to the lies they have been fed. If they would listen to truth they could relax.
a temporary resident. occupant, occupier, resident.
If someone intends to sojourn in the USA they had better do it legally and not expect to be housed, fed, clothed, paid and given a free cell phone and healthcare. 🫤
When my husband heard the bishop’s message he said he would have walked out and would not have blamed Trump if he had walked out. For my part, I’m glad he showed the respect of staying. And his comments afterward were appropriate.
NJ, as I mentioned, be kind to the sojourner and obey the authorities. We can be kind while escorting them out of the country and while allowing them to stay. That seems to be the current plan. Escort out the big criminals, allow those who broke the law to come in but have settled with no more criminal activity, to stay. We can’t completely fix what was done but we can be nice and yet expect obedience to the law.
I’ve heard nothing else about (or from) this sermon so I would be curious to have a broader picture of the whole of it. Calling for kindness to strangers certainly is biblical, her tone (in the very brief clip I saw) was tempered, even soft, in its delivery; but I can understand how it would be seen as also somewhat a pointed remark.
Nothing wrong (in overall theory) with pointed remarks from the pulpit. I doubt Trump is the first president to hear something resembling an admonition. Handling it with grace (and without taking the bait to complain about it later) would send the better message.
It probably isn’t a church I’d attend. But in the church that I do attend, I have no issue with the pulpit being used, at times, to admonish us listeners (and the pastors I’ve sat under typically point it back at themselves for application as well) regarding biblical thinking and behavior.
We are to pray for those in authority and I do hope they both acknowledge, know and answer to God’s higher authority in their respective vocations.
We all get some things wrong along the way in our walk, but if we’re believers we will continue to search the scriptures, attend a faithful church, and remain teachable — taking all of those things seriously, realizing we all need to grow into a better understanding of the faith we confess.
So as long as someone sermonizes on political/social matters from the pulpit in a soft tone it’s ok? This woman has quite a liberal history including LGBTQ promotion, transgender children rights, gun restrictions, “immigrant rights”.etc. She was speaking from her liberal bent behind the pulpit in the guise of mercy and compassion towards all. She declared the LGBTQ group are afraid for their lives…really? I don’t think so. They just have come to an end for a while of being pandered to and endorsed by our government system.
She professes to know Christ and I hope she does but that would be between her and the Lord. Her boys have been involved with BLM riots and she took umbrage with the handling of the George Floyd tragedy. She is a social and political activist wearing a cleric’s collar as I see it. DJT professes to know our Lord but that too would be a matter between him and the Lord…I hope he does know Him.
Trump was far from the only one who objected to Budde’s remarks. Rep. Josh Brecheen (R-OK) walked out of the service early and explained why he’d done so in an X post.
“I purposely left the prayer service early after realizing how the pulpit was being used for liberal means and not for true worship unto God and to seek His will and wisdom. Mr. President … what accosted you today was political, not Biblical,” he said.
I think the significance of the bishop’s sermon was the event as a whole. The presence of the president sitting there gave her sermon national importance. Otherwise who would know or care what she had to say? Those ‘sermons’ and the person giving them should be vetted, in my opinion, because it’s not just a sermon, it’s a political event and the president is lending it his significance.
I see DJ is correct about Vivek. He’s not with DOGE any longer. I don’t know whether he was pushed out or just left or if he has some other thing going with Trump. But I cannot imagine any scenario where he becomes governor of Ohio. He seems to me to have ZERO understanding of working people so….
I tend to think we have given too much ground to “politics.” If a Democratic president were in the congregation of a church service, a sound pastor might speak about abortion, and I wouldn’t say it was a “political” message as much as it was speaking about something that the president needed to hear from a biblical perspective.
I don’t think this bishop was giving a biblical perspective, however. Scripture knows nothing about children (or adults) deciding they’d rather be the other sex and taking steps to look as though they actually are the other sex; and certainly the kindness and grace isn’t in pushing them in that direction. There certainly can be biblically based debate, though, in how we discuss the handling of people who flee bad situations in their own countries and try to make a home in ours.
From my perspective, the only reason for the President to be in that church that day was to show honor to God before the country as is traditional. If the Bishop dishonor’s God with her message, and I believe she did, then that raises the question of whether the President has honored God in elevating her message by being there. At that point it seems just political to me and can be handled politically. I think the value of his going there at all is debatable. Of course not every sermon will resonate nor does it have to. If the sermon had been just about the sojourners it might at least have been biblical and worth thinking about whether he agreed with it or not, but she chose to unbiblically elevate sodomites and child groomers as well. At that point, it’s just Democrat talking points.
