Jo we are bracing yourselves for below 0 highs in the coming days. . Today’s high is predicted to be 50. The bottom falls out tomorrow night with 6 inches of snow and frigid temps! 🥶
Good post I found from Paul David Tripp – “What you need to know about suffering” — in 2014 he went to the hospital with mild bladder infection symptoms to learn he was in “acute kidney failure” which has impacted his physical health permanently.
~ … when I realized I was very ill and that weakness and fatigue would be with me for the rest of my life, the blow was not just physical, but emotional and spiritual as well. Honestly, I didn’t suffer just physical pain, but also the even more profound pain of the death of my delusion of invincibility and the pride of productivity.
The same is true for you. Your responses to the situations in your life, whether physical, relational, or circumstantial, are always more determined by what is inside your heart than by the things you are facing.
You never come to your suffering empty-handed. You always drag a bag full of experiences, expectations, assumptions, perspectives, desires, intentions, and decisions into your suffering. What you think about yourself, life, God, and others will profoundly affect the way you interact with and respond to the difficulty that comes your way.
This is why the writer of Proverbs says: “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)
What are you carrying around in your soul that has the potential to complicate your suffering? What are you preaching to yourself that could allow you to forget the truths of the gospel?
Never forget: No matter what painful thing you’re enduring, as God’s child, it’s impossible for you to endure it all by yourself.
The One who created this world and rules it with wisdom, righteousness, and love is in you, with you, and for you, and nothing has the power to separate you from his love. ~
Busy work day ahead with a speech to cover and get done and turned in quickly, then a mid-afternoon dr. appt (annual check-in w/cardiologist).
We met a sweet little girl in the neighborhood on Abby’s walk late yesterday. She was very excited that Abby sniffed her hand (we were careful). I told her I really liked her sidewalk chalk drawings as we walked on (mom was sitting on the front steps nearby).
There was some kind of semi-late-night ruckus near the back fence in the backyard last night, screeching, fence thumping, maybe raccoons? I got Abby inside (she was an interested spectator but raccoons can be vicious and I wasn’t really sure what all was going on out there).
Life’s mini-dramas.
Looks like we’re finally getting a good handle on the fires up north, thankfully. The damage left behind is frightful, though, and it will be a long road ahead for so many who have lost so much. Continued prayers for all this has affected.
Saw a good-news story last night on CNN when reporter was interviewing a firefighter whose house had burned down, their baby grand piano was in ruins, he was finding only the wires/strings in the rubble. Fun part, though, was that he found his wedding ring which he thought was lost (he hadn’t told his wife yet), as a friend was helping his shift through all the dirt. “What’s this?” friend asked? Joy amid the tragedy.
Very interesting photo of the land under the sea. Makes me wonder, who took that photo?
A friend took me out for brunch as a late celebration of my birthday. She gave me a gift bag full of small tissue wrapped gifts. I totally did not expect that!
She has just gotten into a Bible study that her pastor is doing on Revelation. I can watch the replay which I plan to do.
She was kind to take me by the UPS store so I could make a return of the shirt I had bought for Art which was too large.
Regarding the busted water main that supplies Emory Hospital and the brand new Children’s Hospital among other very important places and people, it turns out the main was installed in 1941. It is right down the road from where I grew up. Now elective surgeries are being put on hold. They aren’t sure when repair will be complete.
Our county should know these old pipes can go at anytime, yet they had to call people in from other states to make the repair.
OTOH, my friend had a small Leland Cypress tree to break and it fell partially out in the road by her home. She called the county for removal saying it was small, just a bit larger than she could manage on her own. They sent out about ten men and four trucks, one with a crane. She could not believe her eyes when they all showed up for the little job. She felt anger about the wasted tax dollars.
Hope they get that pipe fixed sooner than later Janice. Such a sweet blessing extended to you from your friend! Extended birthdays are fun!
I have seen with my own eyes 5 workers sent to fix a pot hole. One worker cleaning out the hole with his shovel then filling it while 4 “workers”’were watching him as they were leaning on their shovels. Perhaps they were being trained for future pot holes!!😁 I watched as I waited in the waiting room at the Vet office! Quite entertaining
Just finished my homework. Wycliffe has a new employee manutal. It is 165 pages which I had to read and acknowledge. I read it on my computer and that is not easy for me.
But glad to finish it. See I am actually doing my jobs. Also got in another one mile walk around the block.
Jo
Yesterday I went to the bank to get some money and they had bowls with lollipops in them. Since my next stop was the indoor soccer game, I took a pocket full. It was so fun to give them out to all of the young siblings and then a few of the players.
Heigh-ho! Off to wrangle kiddos!
Enjoy your day.
