Good morning! I am watching the Carter service. So glad for the Christian service and Scripture readings before all the political opponents. Beautiful music.
Isn’t it interesting that several places throughout the country, with differing climates, from my own state of Connecticut out to California, and places in between, are having strong winds around the same time period? Here in Connecticut, we’ve had these winds on and off for several days now. Today there is a “Severe Weather Alert: Wind Advisory.”
Yes, we’ve had strong winds, too. Gusts up to 55 mph a couple of days ago. It is calm today, but the storm will blow in tomorrow. The temp got up to 42° but is 41° now.
We cringe at the sound of the wind right now. Outside everything is tinged in yellow.
I think it’s starting to just hit many of us, the devastation of the loss we’ve seen (and many have first-hand endured) in just a short couple of days (and the fires are still burning, winds expected to pick up again tonight but not as strong as before).
Last night’s new fires in the Hollywood Hills were in neighborhoods very familiar to me (my friend Carol would have been in that particular evacuation zone, and my family lived within that zone as well, on Gardner Street, when I was a preschooler — Hollywood First Presbyterian Church — I’ve attended some services there through the years — was within the area as was the corner of Hollywood and Highland where I worked for a publishing company just out of college). Thankfully those particular fires appeared to be somewhat under control more quickly before spreading. At least one of those was still going this morning, though.
I’m on keeping up with the LA County public and Catholic school closures list today and we’ll all be working weekend shifts, either in person or on the phones. (Schools are all basically closed at this point, probably through Friday.)
I have seen a lot of reels and photos of the fires on Facebook and Instagram, all so heartbreaking, especially a plea from Jamie Lee Curtis asking people to send help through the Red Cross. I was reminded of the pleas for help out of Western NC for their devastation. Now all those homeless are dealing with winter cold. I still pray for them, too.
I’m heartbroken today after getting a clearer picture of Altadena. The downtown area on upper Lake Avenue was mostly wiped out, along with blocks and blocks of houses, churches, and schools on either side of it. My old (small) church there was destroyed, and the latest count I’ve heard is sixteen church families have lost their homes.
It must be horrible for Michelle to be going through this again.
Some of us “are reliving yesterday” because this thread was not up when I posted my comments.
Of course, you won’t see this until tomorrow, which means today will be yesterday by then, so any comments made about this will be “reliving yesterday.”
Now I’ve just confused myself. I’m going to bed now.
Good morning, all, a beautiful warm day here. Thirty four currently with rain and snow expected later and the next two days, then back to sunshine though cooler.
Thinking of how awful the fires are but thankful they are in this country. Which sounds warped and twisted but thinking of Tibet and the recent earthquake, and various war zones. It must be awful to lose one’s home and possessions and the steadiness of life. But here there is help available and options. Don’t we still have folk living in Katrina trailers?
Good morning.

Morning from a snow globe in CO! Winds are howling and snow is blowing! How I wish this could hover over the fires in CA…
Thankful for the light at the end of the tunnel Aj! ❣️
Praying the words of truth being spoken at the funeral will permeate the hearts hearing them today Janice.😊

The service was really good. His grandson, Jason, did a great job. He reminded me of JD Vance.
At the departure, the military band was outside playing Hail to the Chief. I was thinking with the cold, how difficult it was to play the instruments.
My friend in CA, former apartment mate, watched the whole service, too. It was nice to chat with her.
Interesting that one of the final places the Biden/Harris administration got to serve was at a Christian service.

The weather was so much more calm today. I got in a good walk. I had not walked since we got home from Hilton Head..
Now we wait to see the storm hit around 9 a.m. I received an alert from the county a few moments ago saying to get prepared.

I hope you can both stay in and be safe, Janice.
The fire damage is so very sad to see.

On the plus side, I’m so glad to see you back in the saddle, AJ. Mumsee’s reign was brutal.

Hey AJ, I have at least three email addresses for you; at least two of them get email returned. What is the correct one these days?

We are getting the snow and sleet mix a few hours earlier than predicted. Let the fun begin! Wishing I could send it all to CA to help put out fires.

Fires in California, snow just about everywhere else. Enjoy Friday! (Unless you’re reading this on Saturday, in which case, “Enjoy Yesterday!”)

Brutal? I don’t think so. A breath of fresh air maybe.
