I haven’t heard from my family this morning–which I’m taking as good news.
We just looked at the Cal Fire map showing what has burned, but it doesn’t appear that my nephew’s house is in the burn area–though it is close.
I’m taking that as good news.
Looking at the same map, it appears St. Matthew’s church is still standing. It’s at the bottom of a narrow canyon.
While Pali High–as we call it–was burned to the ground, it appears the large playing field may have caused the fire to calm enough that none of the houses on the south side appear to have burned. (Which includes my nephew’s).
Thanks for any prayers. Things continue to be dicey.
Remember the Castle Twins? They are now three years old, and doing pretty well. (Of course, there will still be issues to deal with.) But now an older brother has been diagnosed with leukemia. Here is the page the parents started for that, with a couple of posts.
The Eaton Fire in the Altadena/Pasadena area has destroyed my California church and the homes of at least 8 church families (it’s not a very big church).
This fire seems unprecedented to me in reaching into the valley a couple miles beyond the fire-prone mountains and canyons where they usually start. News coverage describes the winds as extraordinarily strong, so they’re carrying burning embers longer distances.
The church is more than a mile from the nearest brushy hills and canyons. When I lived in that area I could see fires in the hills but never worried about them spreading into the valley.
Praying for the folks in Cali as these wildfires continue to rage.
Allen.

So sad Kevin. As I watched a video it all seems so incomprehensible. Praying for those who have had their lives changed in an instant 🥲

I see Michelle posted on FB that her nephew’s house is gone. Michelle, I’m so sorry.
