  1. brilliant sunshine here but quite cold. I happened to notice that some of my heating vents were closed. I had someone vacuum them out but never thought to check if she left them open

enjoy your special day, Dj. Interesting that we are in the same state but almost 600 miles apart

  2. OK, I was just informed I’m missing my own party.

Actually, my birthday is in November. But who can keep up anymore? Thank you for all the wishes.

I’m a ways from the Palisades fire, but not all that far — and I just filed a story quoting an LA fire official last night who told a community meeting “don’t worry,” wild fires spreading like they do in more northern areas of LA are just not likely to happen here.

Let’s hope that quote is correct! The meeting was about concerns over arson fires being set in our 102-acre nature preserve on the ocean bluffs. …

I think residents are a little less confident that he is, especially seeing the Palisades right now.

  3. Now I’m wondering how I’d get Abby into the car if we had to evacuate.

It’ll be thick with smoke everywhere by tomorrow, it is blowing out over the ocean and will make its way down the coast. Crazy winds in the whole area which is carrying embers randomly. Warnings are being expanded, but won’t reach us – and we have different topography here – but … still very unnerving. And the winds are the wildcard.

  4. The temp was 23° when I got up, now it’s 25°, but will not get above the 30’s all day. I am not a happy camper, but I am a grateful camper that we have heat so far. A winter storm is expected for the weekend. That might be fun for children, but not much fun for most adults here.

I have not been brave enough to go out in this weather for a walk.

  5. I would avoid walking anywhere with ice, Janice. Snow may not be slippery, however. I am thankful we have a bit of snow because of the well below zero temps. Otherwise, people start having trouble with septic systems. We are way below the average for snow–thus moisture. We certainly see how weak humans are when we consider the capricious weather and other natural disasters. Thank God, he is in control, and he wants to hear our needs and desires!
