Praying tonight for all to go well with an easy recovery. Praying for God’s direction and precision to give best results, caring workers to show love, and effective pain control to give full relief. God to let every detail be done exceedingly well so there is only opportunity for extreme success. I pray in the name of Jesus, Amen
My mother-in-law (our last parent) is in the hospital in Michigan with stroke symptoms. That may affect our Thanksgiving plans here, too, as one of our kids is thinking of going there instead of here. (My husband can’t travel, and I’m not going to drive up there when our kids are planning to come down to see us; I may go next week, depending on what transpires in the next few days. She isn’t even in the town where she is living, so it’s all complicated.)
Oh, I just looked back and saw the request for Cheryl’s MIL. Prayers for her and all involved at this holiday week. May things work out in a good way for those who travel and those who wish they could be there. Those complications can be so tough on a family. Everyone feels pulled. May God’s peace and healing enter into the situation in a mighty way.
Kevin, she’s hospitalized in Flint. Apparently she will spend the night and see a neurologist in the morning, and then possibly go home (near Grand Rapids). We’re getting news only indirectly and not very detailed info.
Mrs AJ reporting after a very long day. Surgery took a long time, however in the end the surgeon was able to reverse the colostomy overcoming a number of significant challenges. Allen may be home by the weekend. One specific concern to pray for is that the seam will hold; it is both stapled and stitched. If it fails, it’s more surgery to return to a (permanent) colostomy.

If it takes a miracle to hold it together, that is what I ask for because You are the miracle giver and only One to do things outside and above the realm of fallen earth and make them reality here. Thank You, God, for bringing AJ and all the team through. Thank You for watching over Cheryl and keeping her strong and courageous in You. Please bless in ways that will uplift and bring healing. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen
Mrs. AJ reporting: there are concerns about output(could mean possible damage)on the permanent urostomy side. Doing an ultrasound now to check nothing was disturbed while working in the area. Could be related to the prep and surgery disrupting normal hydration, but I appreciate the proactive caution. Thank you for your prayer support. It is precious to us and much appreciated
The unreal Cheryl here: It’s still a bit uncertain what went on with my m-i-l, and she seems to be doing better today. The idea is releasing her from her current hospital today, but whether that it is to go to a hospital nearer her home or to stay with my sister-in-law and her husband is uncertain. She’s probably not yet at the point to go to her own home. Thank you for your prayers!
Today has been trying. After a repeated bout of vomiting, they reinsert GI tube of vomiting doom. That has helped, but it’s been a struggle today. They had to back off of my dietary plan, and this will delay my release. My numbers look good, kidney output, creating, and kidney function.
Glad to see you here and on Facebook, AJ. You are a Thanksgiving Day Trooper! Someday, in the near future, you can have more pumpkin pie! I have not had any today myself. Perhaps tomorrow. Praying for you!
We didn’t celebrate today, because our second daughter won’t be here till tomorrow, but one family with her, including our very energetic, animated six-year-old granddaughter. It has been a good few hours.
Hot chicken noodle soup (and rest/sleep) helped me. For symptoms, I took Dayquil & NyQuil on the worst of those early days, but it soon settled into just “fatigue” interspersed with some near-house-shaking sneezes.
Prayers continuing for AJ. He posted on Facebook and made me laugh out loud. He has a new recipe for a hospital cherry slushy. Blend his ice chips with cherry flavored medicine, lol
Thanksgiving was good and then I spent Friday with the youngest which also went well. I actually seemed to have more energy and didn’t get worn out. However we played soccer on my 50 foot by ten foot deck. It went well until I realized that my leg really wasn’t strong enough to kick a soccer ball
quietly mentioned to granddaughter the money she owes me and that I had asked her to bring. She just blithely said it was in the mail and if it wasn’t here in another week she would pay me. Other granddaughter said yeah I helped her get it ready. It is so sad when you know you’re being lied to. One of my daughters quietly offered to give me the money if I needed it. Very sweet of her
I am praying for her for a return to honesty or a beginning
Morning all. Having issues that appear to show this was not successful. Sending me for a CTScan and if it shows it failed, emergency surgery to clean me out, block me off, and a permanent colostomy again. Please pray for us as we deal with whatever comes.
I am sad to know things have not been righted Aj. 🥲.Covering you still in prayer knowing full well the One knitting you together is still the One Who knitted you together in the beginning. Trusting Him with His plan and purpose…and wisdom for your doctors ❣️
Worse updates from my mother-in-law, too. She and my sister-in-law called my husband earlier today (for his birthday), and he said he wouldn’t have known his mother’s voice. An hour or two later she was in the ER. Her right hand and foot were affected in the original incident, but over the course of the day they’ve gotten worse and are now unusable. And now we hear that apparently that can happen with a stroke, that symptoms develop over time. 😦
Of course not much happens on the weekend, even in a hospital, unless it’s truly an emergency. But she has appointments for tomorrow, probably a transfer for therapy when she gets out, and we should know more after that.
(We weren’t expecting to see her for Thanksgiving, BTW, so seeing her on Facetime was actually a bonus. And we saw her in September, first visit for her with my husband in nearly two years–I’d seen her more recently than he had–and we knew going into it that it might be the last visit. She has been healthy, but 88 each day healthy is a “bonus” day and things can change unexpectedly and rapidly.)
I have been praying a lot for y’all, AJ and Cheryl. May God’s peace settle over and in you both like a blanket over all the emotional bruises and physical hurts of the roller coaster ride you have been on. May the pain relief be just the right dosage after surgery, and still allow for good communication. May God bring healing at the best pace. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen
Taking care of aging parents is hard. Dad is now on the short list for a long term care home – could be moved within a week. This will be very helpful for our stepmom, but will also be very hard on them both. So thankful for my sister and BIL who have been taking such good care of them.
Also praying for the real and family, that depression will not make inroads but the joy of the Lord will fill them with His peace, knowing He only gives the best to His children.
Praying for Jo’s granddaughters, may the truth come out. Constantly. Until they realize they are dealing with the greatest Truth and He will not be denied.
positive news from Allen this morning. Things are moving internally. Tube (ng?) has been removed. He got to eat-finally. He was up and walking and in the chair. I’m so excited, hoping he will be home soon. Please pray the care manager can get the same visiting nurses in for him when he comes home. They told her they were too short staffed, but I asked her to push back and she said that she may be able to on the basis that he is not a new patient.
Oh that’s wonderful news, Cheryl! And so glad to hear the feeding tube is gone—that’s a big deal. Tell him we miss him on the blog and are praying for him. And for you.
Pleased to hear this news. Praying for the perfect home health workers. Prayers for wellness for all involved in his care. May the strength of God be infused into AJ and Cheryl as they look toward going home to continue recovery. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen
Husband is off this morning to take son to his arraignment. Son drives everywhere though without license or insurance but thinks he won’t be returning today so requested a ride. He thinks he will be out in ten days. But there is concern among others that he may be in jail for a couple of years, to cover the probation period of the first dui offense followed with the second. But the legal people are rather lax on such things around here. God knows what will be to his good and those around him. We are hoping they lock him up long enough to dry him out and give him time to think.
specific prayer request for Allen. He is back to vomiting, which delays the progress needed for discharge and is very frustrating for him. Praying someone discerns the cause and treats appropriately, sooner, rather than later. I am supposed to return to work on Monday, but expected him home and settled in for this past week, which complicates the situation as well.
You know all things, and know why AJ has the vomiting bouts. I ask that You reveal the cause and settle things down so he can continue with consistent progress toward the goal of release to go home. Please let there be quick improvement so Mrs the Real can get back to her work as scheduled. I call on You to remember Your promise to work all things out for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purposes as AJ and Cheryl are as true believers in Jesus. I pray in the blessed and holy name of Jesus, Amen
Cheryl we are praying the cause of Aj’s vomiting will be quickly discovered and healed …. in Jesus name! Asking the Lord to bring calm in the midst of it all and give to you rest. ❣️
The brother of my friend K is having open heart surgery today. This week he had to transfer their mother to a nursing home. The same day he went to ER for chest pain and blockages discovered require the surgery. Please pray for it to all go well. My friend K has heart troubles and can’t travel or help in any way except to pray.
My friend’s brother had a good open heart surgery yesterday. My friend told me the day before surgery that her brother had been up on the roof putting up Christmas lights. ER discovered he had 7 blockages in his chest. God kept him alive for a purpose!
Re the “catch and release”: When I lived in Nashville, I occasionally saw billboards warning about how foolish it was to drink and drive in the face of the consequences that would be meted out–but that was only the public face of it.
One night at 11:30 or so I was driving back home (far later than I would normally be on the roads) because a brother was in town and staying in a hotel, and I’d gone to see him. At 11:00 quite a few of the traffic lights in Nashville become flashing red lights one direction, flashing yellow on the perpendicular streets. I was on the street with flashing yellow, meaning I had the right of way.
I drove into the intersection, which was clear when I entered it. Suddenly out of nowhere came a red pickup (I realized only later it probably didn’t have its lights on, or I’d have seen it earlier than the split second before it hit me). It hit the front end of my car, and we both sat in the intersection a couple of dazed seconds before the other vehicle quickly drove off. I realized, “This is when I memorize its license number” but immediately realized also that my glasses had flown off my face and I couldn’t see to get the license number.
My Corolla was totaled, but it was 15 years old and I’d been praying about the means to replace it. Turns out insurance “underinsured” paid enough to allow me to buy the car my brother was selling that had belonged to my recently deceased sister-in-law. He gave me a few hundred dollars off what he was asking, and after I got married and wasn’t driving the car much, he bought it back so his new teenage stepson could have a car.
Well, it turns out that when the pickup hit me, an undercover cop was sitting nearby (probably because there is a bar near that intersection), and that officer took off after the driver. So they were able to catch her, and to charge her for a DUI, driving without a license (a suspended license was a hint it wasn’t her first offense), and a hit and run. (I sent for the police report, which is why I know all of that.) According to all the billboards, she should be facing some serious consequences, right?
Nope. She was supposed to pay my $200 deductible (and of course she didn’t). She had some other small fine, and ten days in jail served on weekends for her convenience (if she bothered to show up, I suppose).
We could take drunk driving seriously, but we don’t. I once read that jury trials don’t give serious consequences, either (in mine it was a judge)–the reason given being that “everyone on a jury has driven drunk themselves, at one time or another, so they’re sympathetic.” If that’s anything close to the truth, it’s pretty appalling.

Sorry that long post got duplicated. I don’t know why it is doing that with so many of my posts these days–I’m not doing anything different, and even if I was hitting “post” twice, it should be telling me “you already said that” and not allowing the second post!
We have already learned it is cheaper for son to drive uninsured than to buy insurance. The fine is less than the insurance. As with guns, only the honest follow the rules.
I’ve since also been struck in an intersection (in 2020, of all years) and empathize with the shock of all that. 😦
In the years since I’ve been especially careful driving, but a common complaint around here (and I see it all the time) is people refuse to stop at these 4-way stop sign intersections, many blow right through, others may hit their brake before blowing through … I see it a lot while walking Abby and am shocked, really, at how common it is.
I think it’s more a case of careless driving not connected with alcohol use, so much, but people who have just decided they don’t want to be “slowed down” by a silly stop sign.
Well, DJ, part of that is the anti-authority mindset that seems to have taken over everything (definitely including politics).
I was at the park recently and two teenage girls were walking, and a large dog was running around loose. One of them mentioned heading toward the dog park, and I said (gently) that it is supposed to be on a leash until they get there. One girl said a somewhat sheepish but polite “Thank you” and the other said a sarcastic “Yes, thank you.” As they passed me, the second girl said, “What would we do without them?” I called my husband and said, “I think I just got called a Karen.” I mean, really, when did the older woman reminding a kid of the rules become the problem? (And this is a friendly, polite community.)
Off-leashing is annoying and disrespectful to those with on-leash dogs or just walking without a dog in a park and hoping none of those dogs is aggressive.
That’s why there was a move to create dog parks, so owners could off-leash their dogs in a designated space (though watchfulness and manners still apply!).
I’m still having issues with Abby on leashed walks when she sees just another leashed dog being walked — we’re quick to avoid, to cross the street, but Abby loves other dogs so much and just is so desperate to play that she still becomes hard to control on leash (she’s big and strong) in those circumstances. (A dog running off leash would be a huge challenge!)
Trying to prep the house for Christmas today but my ‘to-do’ list also included doing some online research on more tips for leash control.
And yeah, kind of strange, isn’t it, to be perceived as a “scold” ruining young people’s fun.
I like to look folks in the eye and say, “I was nearly killed by a dog bite. I’m sorry, but it makes me feel very unsafe even if the dog is really nice.”
People seem to be more understanding, but I freeze when I see a dog offleash. I don’t want to be weird, but I’m extremely uneasy. 😦
Prayer for the real and Mrs the real. Prayer that the right help can be arranged to promote healing. And that the Mrs real can get back to work or have an extension of absence.
Praying for Melissa. May God quickly provide a route to healing that will obliterate the tumors and bring her back to good health. May her suffering be minimal, and her pain and fear eradicated through the power in Jesus. May her faith be greatly increased and those around her who did not believe in Jesus take another look at Him and believe. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen
My mother-in-law is in rehab and apparently doing well BUT it’s hard to recover from a stroke when you’re 88, and also when she didn’t get to the hospital for it in the first 24 hours. To complicate matters, it affects the right side of her body, and her left side has been her weaker side (bad arthritis in her right hand, pins in her left ankle from a fall a number of years ago). She should be using a walker, but her right side isn’t strong enough to manage a walker, so she’s using a four-footed cane and not using it well. She is likely to need some level of full-time care when she gets out.
She has been very active, walking two or three miles a day, playing Scrabble weekly (and usually winning, or “not keeping track of points” if she knew she was playing a much weaker opponent), and baking cookies and treats for fellow residents where she had been living. Her speech is fairly clear–she told us they had instructed her to “speak slowly and enunciate,” and that is what she was doing–but my sister-in-law said clear speech won’t be enough to allow her to live in her own apartment anymore.
Our younger daughter plans to surprise her by stopping for a visit this weekend (on her way to an “early Christmas” with the family of our older daughter).
Kizzie, do you have any updates on your family? Will you be able to get any of them to attend a Christmas Eve service with you? I am praying they will. Do you put out nativity scenes which might prompt questions from Boy?
Janice – This year, due to Nightingale working on Christmas, we will be having our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day celebrations on the 23rd and 24th. At this point, no, they would not agree to go to church even for a Christmas Eve service, but I keep praying that eventually they will be open to that.
Yes, I do have a nativity set that I put put out each year. I think Boy asked about it when he was younger, so now he knows what it is depicting. At this age (14), he is resistant to hearing anything about God, still claiming to be an atheist, as is his beloved Grampa. (Hubby was Papa.) Every now and then, something will come up in conversation that opens the door briefly, and I will say something appropriate, but keep it brief and succinct.
I pray every day for not only his and my daughters’ salvation, but for a list of people which includes Boy’s Grampa and Grandma and his dad.
Since we are talking about Boy, I would like to ask for prayer for deliverance from compulsive overeating. Despite attempts by his mother me to guide him in better choices and portions, he seems to have no “off switch” to his appetite, and will go through large amounts of food, especially snacks (which Nightingale tries to limit, of course).
I know that people joke about the big appetites of teenage boys, but this is more than that. And once weight is put on, it is so very hard to lose it. 😦
As for my daughters, Chickadee is still with the McKs. Although she loves them like family and prefers to be there, the situation is spiritually and mentally bad for her and a heartache for me.
Nightingale just finished up a particularly hard class, but passed it well enough (but not up to her own standards of “well enough”), and also received a 90% on something she was sure she had failed. Now she is studying for the test to get into actual nursing school.
Up till now, she has been working on pre-reqs. Not sure, but I think the courses she has taken part-time over the past few years, with also taking a couple semesters off for different reasons, equaled two years of college. It may be taking a long time, but she is pressing on, determined to finish and be an RN. (She is currently an LPN.)
She is also dealing with the challenge of 14 year old Boy, and working a demanding job.
Praying for both Nightingale and Chickadee to have their eyes opened and their hearts drawn to Jesus.
Praying for them, Kizzie. Open hearts and minds, new inroads made especially by God tailored to fit them each individually to bring them out of themselves and into full understanding of Jesus and the gospel and what new life in Christ is all about. Praying for you, Kizzie, that God would give you the desire of your heart, the desire to see them all saved.
Praying with you all for AJ and Mrs.the Real to have a good day and for his healing to keep on a steady path for regaining strength and ability to do the things he wants to do.
Nightingale is sick with cold symptoms, and feeling pretty bad. Testing negative for Covid so far, so hopefully it’s “just” a cold (which can be bad enough). Please pray that she recovers quickly, as she often does, so that she doesn’t have to miss any work, with this being her weekend to work. (She works alternating weekends.) Thank you.
(She doesn’t want to have to call in sick because she has missed a couple or so days recently for emergency reasons, such as when her car broke down.)
Praying that AJ has a very restful night after a stressful day. Praying God will bless him with sweet dreams that make him feel refreshed in the morning. Praying For Mrs.the Real to feel rested and fully recognizing Jesus as the lifter of any heavy burdens that she turns over to Jesus. Praying that God will give some comic relief and exercise of their good humor muscles and reservoirs.
Please bless them, Lord, in these sweet ways and encourage them in whatever they deal with moment by moment. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen

Trusting God to see me thru this last (hopefully) part of this years long ordeal. It’s in His hands, as it’s always been.

Well “repeated vomiting” does not sound like a good Thanksgiving, AJ.
But it’s good to hear the “numbers” are looking good, that’s what’s important — hoping the rest of your system behaves and settles down soon.

Taking care of aging parents is hard. Dad is now on the short list for a long term care home – could be moved within a week. This will be very helpful for our stepmom, but will also be very hard on them both. So thankful for my sister and BIL who have been taking such good care of them.

positive news from Allen this morning.

Heavenly Father,
You know all things, and know why AJ has the vomiting bouts.

Cheryl, I remember when that happened, how scary.
😦 Grrr.
