  1. Good morning! I had two nights in a row of good sleep! Oh, the things you never thought of being thankful for when you are young. Today there are, no doubt, things I have no idea to be thankful for. Such is life.

  2. Good day, Y’all! It’s gonna be another warm one here.

I shopped at Walmart earlier. When I looked in the ladies clothing area for a pair of jeans or slacks in a tan or camel shade I found the whole department had many tops and jackets, but pants and jeans were very few. It was mostly blue jeans and a few sweat pants. I saw one wide leg cargo pant in thin material in a tan color. I’m thinking they can’t sell pants because no one knows what width of pants leg to buy. It seemed so very weird . . . no skirts, pants, few jeans, but an avalanche of tops.

  3. I, for one, am happy that pants can be in all kinds of widths. The older I am the less it matters, but it really seems to be okay, fashion wise, too. The very young or those really into fashion probably are wearing the very wide legged jeans. I really miss our Christopher Banks store, since that is where I bought all my slacks and jeans. Older women in our area having almost nowhere to buy clothes except Target and Walmart. There are some boutiques and a Maurices.

  4. I used to buy all my clothes from Land’s End, but their quality is deteriorating. 😦

Alas, most of the clothes I’m wearing as I type came from Costco. 😦

On a speaking tour last year, I walked into Chico’s, held out my arms and said, “Pretend I’m a Barbie doll and dress me for speaking.”

The women had a fun time, got me a fine outfit (including a necklace) that worked well, and didn’t look at the price. It was my birthday.

So, I paid a fortune, but I sure looked good and professional. 🙂 😦

  5. If I could really go shopping, I think Belk’s is where I would go if they still have a store here. I always get to go to stores that are open before Art goes to work. Walmart opens at 6 a.m., lol

Kohls had some good clothes for my taste, too, but I have no idea if they are still around.

  6. Good morning, all! I was up before 7 making a large batch of chili to eat tonight and then to freeze the rest for future meals.

Then Tim and I and Koot went for a long walk since it wasn’t windy. It was still below freezing but with no wind it was lovely. We still do not have any snow – so unusual.

I get to shop at Long Tall Sally (London). Thankfully most things that I order fit as their return policy is 😳 It’s confusing because they have 3 size descriptions, UK, EU, and US. Of course I use US as that is the same as Canada.

  7. The rest of today will be laundry (an unending chore) and putting up outside Christmas lights (which won’t go on until after Remembrance Day) and sourcing indoor Christmas decor from the yard (branches and such). We’ll use bushes and small trees that we wanted to cut back anyway to make more of a break between the bush and the house.

  8. I saw the university where son teaches already put up Christmas decor. I am sure that is because they close the campus down almost two weeks before Christmas. It was neat to see it decorated last year when we visited son the weekend after Thanksgiving for our 2nd Thanksgiving celebration in a week.

  9. I will have to say that I am getting my clothes from Costco. I bought three things there yesterday.

Loving the rain we are getting. We had a strong rain all night long and are still having a drizzle

So, my favorite place to shop is Costco but in Nevada at Carson City. They have a much better selection and I get to drive through the mountains. So yesterday a storm was coming in but later in the day so my friend and I went up the hill and over the pass. It was such a beautiful day and the roads were mostly empty, not even any construction. Got to see all the fall color. Then I surprised my friend by saying how about we drive the rest of the way around the lake? She had never done that and was delighted. She got her new clothes at a thrift store in Truckee. Still haven’t brought everything in, but I just saw a glimmer of sunshine so I will wait until it dries out a bit.

  10. We need Christmas (and Hallmark) after the year+ we’ve had! Political ads are about to END, hooray. Everything that could be said has been said a gazillion times over. We’re done.

I shop mainly online, favorite clothing comes from LL Bean but they’re not cheap. Amazon has options.

Well, it’s not raining here, that forecast must have been for other areas throughout LA, not us. So I’m doing laundry and will lay things out on the rack outside to dry as the sun is shining (but it’s very cool), there’s still time for that I think … Our “daylight saving time” ends tomorrow, so gonna get dark early (but extra sleep tonight).

  11. I have purchased a few gifts for Christmas from LL Bean. Flannel shirts for the guys, bedroom shoe/boots and a turtle neck t-shirt, and short sleeve t-shirt for me. They were all on sale. Can’t go wrong with LL Bean.

  12. I went to a Christmas open house in Elizabeth today. Trees, hot chocolate and Christmas carols!!! It’s going to snow all week beginning tomorrow night….tree might be coming up stairs!!

Sam’s has some great clothing much of the time. NineWest, Gap, Eddie Bauer…

I do find some great clothes at Nordstrom Rack and Marshall’s.

Janice I stopped in Walmart while in Elizabeth and they had lots of pants, skirts and tops. And I was shocked at how many shoes they carry. I bought a thermal zip up sweatshirt from the men’s section….I forgot my sweater at home and was cold!

  13. We do have a Kohl’s over an hour away. I seldom find anything there. I do buy tops from Sam’s and sometimes sweat or yoga pants, which I never wear in public. I hate that you can’t try things on. It is too far to take home and return, although I have done so.

My last winter coat buy was from Land’s End. We were in the store, but it had to be ordered and sent to get the right size. My daughter was with me, or I probably would not have bothered.

We went to the movie, “White Bird,” and enjoyed it very much.

  14. Eddie Bauer used to be me go-to place, but they’ve since sold or somehow changed hands and the selection is much smaller and not nearly as impressive as it once was. 😦

    • my go-to place.

    Me talking funny today.

But I did drop my ballot off. Stuck the “I Voted” sticker on the Jeep dash, prompting someone to ask if my Jeep voted.

Drizzling off and on now, better go get the laundry brought in.

  15. Don’t you hate getting into an argument with a BOT who doesn’t seem to understand the question?

It’s been that kind of round and round day. 😦

We did have an excellent prayer session this morning, but I will now probably have to work tomorrow.

Teaching/attending a writer’s conference in Sacramento most of the next week. I get to meet Jo for lunch on Tuesday!

  16. I keep trying to block candidate texts – Ted Cruz, Harris, Trump — the joys of being registered independent, they all come at you. But blocking doesn’t seem to help they keep sending more texts I suppose from different numbers.

  17. The memorial service for my brother Chuck was yesterday afternoon, followed by a reception at the house he had shared with his beloved wife Becky. (It’s very large and gorgeous. I don’t know if she is going to stay there or downsize, but I suspect the latter.)

The service was nice, with my niece and some of their friends speaking. But so strange to be there as just an ordinary person in a seat, not up in or near the section for the family, and to be thanked for coming. Also, I learned more about my brother’s personality than I – his own sister – had known before. He was quite gregarious and adventurous. That all made me sad for what could have been and now has no chance to be.

The last speaker was a minister who was also a friend or friendly acquaintance of theirs. He read some scripture and talked a little bit about Jesus and being with Him in Heaven, but I wasn’t quite sure that he made the distinction that one must *believe* in Him. He did skirt it a bit, and there did seem to be one or two things he said that could point that way, but all in all, his words could seem like we all end up with Jesus at the end. But he did not come out and say that.

Even so, I was surprised and pleased that there was a minister talking about Jesus and reading Bible passages. I really did not expect that.

When we were about to leave, I went to find Becky to say goodbye, having to go through the crowd in the dining room and the kitchen into the large foyer they have, where she was chatting with some folks. We hugged some more, she thanked me again for being there, and she also said that we have to get together sometime. Now, you know that people often say that out of politeness, but Becky seemed sincere. I think that maybe she has felt bad that I have not been in their lives for so long.

It was good for me to have been at the service. I cried some, of course. It was nice to see my sister-in-law and niece for the first time in seven years, and to see my grandniece for the first time. I was silently praying on and off all day for their salvation.

  18. Kizzie how sweet that you were there. In His Hands and His timing. I pray SIL and niece will indeed reach out to connect with you once again…and they might know the fullness of His grace and mercy.❣️

  19. Kizzie, it sounds like all went really well under the circumstances. It’s all in God’s hands and you are praying to the One who can reestablish relationships. I hope you two will make the effort to visit with each other soon. She may need friendship with widows to help her at this vulnerable time. You are outside her realm of married friends so it’s a great time to reach out to her.

  20. I have occasionally found clothes at Sam’s but usually look at them and decide I can live without the impulse buy. If I have a particular need for a color, style, or item, I could never expect to find it at Sam’s.

  21. So, today at church, the guy up front was talking about the coming snow and whether people liked it or not. The guy behind us piped up that Indians don’t like snow, there is enough white on their grounds. (we live on the reservation, by the way) Does that sound racist? A bunch of people yelled at him that he was racist.

  22. People yelling in church?

Good sermon and liturgy today, we were reminded in the congregational prayer that when we see others sin it should always remind us of how we sin, often in the same ways, and bring us to our own repentance, not accusing others.

  23. I thought it was funny. The guy is an Indian. He has no time for Indians playing the victim card and makes comments like that every week, all in good fun.

today at lunch, after church, my dad commented that he does not know why but he sure likes going there.

  24. Oh Kizzie, I’m glad you were able to attend and to make that connection you did. It brings comfort to me that Scripture tells us that if it is possible, as much as depends on us (because it doesn’t only depend on us), we are to live at peace with all (Rom. 12:18). We’re only responsible for our part. As sad as it is that he never did his part in letting there be a genuine connection, you have faithfully handled yours. I’m proud of you!
