We had an incident of someone going to early vote and finding a hatchback opened with many whole boxes of ballots. It was reported.
Years ago, we had a whole bunch of ballots found in the car of an election judge after the count. Those turned the election so that the other person won. It is difficult to know if things like these are accidents or not when you are not close to the source. There are other safeguards in place, however. My precinct is large geographically, but small enough that I don’t think we have ever voted without knowing at least one of the judges. I imagine this is true of many precincts. The crowded cities with many apartments would be a whole different matter.
At any rate, when we are dealing with human beings, they are not perfect, and mistakes can be made. The question is how much do they affect the election and what kind of safeguards have to be in place?

We don’t know what information they have available to them, or what their most important issues are. Yeah, some are stupid, evil, or crazy, left, right, and center. But that person with undesirable politics might stop and change your tire if you have a flat, or work in a soup kitchen, or teach your children to read and do math, or take care of Alzheimer’s patients, or do drug counseling, etc. Politics is important, but it’s not everything. Your neighbors aren’t garbage, marxists, nor poisoning our country. They’re just our fellow humans.” ~
This has nothing to do with the election, but I still want to know who are the “moderates” in congress? Who are those elusive creatures? How do they vote on the bills that come before them?
DJ @6:49 Doesn’t it feel like a weight is lifted? When I walked out of the doors of the voting site I felt so relieved. Almost weightless. Voting is a wonderful right, but it’s actually a burden if you take it seriously. 🙂

DJ @11:30 Interesting piece about the future of conservatism. I do understand why some conservatives are not voting for Trump—I think it’s misguided, but I do understand it. The article relies a lot on projections into the future which are pretty one sided. Why not project out a potential Harris win, and it’s likely effects on conservatism. From what I see, every time the country normalizes perversion, it becomes part of our tradition and is eventually normalized in ‘conservative’ thought and positions. That is one reason I don’t define myself as an ideological conservative.
I’m a Bible-based Christian and generally find conservatism harmonious with my core being, but more and more, I do not internalize any ideologies. And the further conservatism drifts from the Christ of the Bible, the further it drifts from me—that is my goal anyway. I do not want to be so tied to any ideologies (left, right, center, or none of the above) that my thinking about the Bible changes. To me, agendas must change to fit the Bible, not the other way around. [ And I’m not advocating a theocracy, but merely acknowledging that Jesus IS king, and every knee WILL bow, whether congress decrees it or not. And we still don’t know what that looks like in the real world.]
Correction: I said, “we still don’t know what that looks like in the real world.” I should say, “we don’t know what that looks like in the material world”. The unseen and intangible is very very real and I don’t mean to imply otherwise.
Debra, I agree with much of what you said. I feel less and less tied to the politics I see in our country, on both sides. But I think that’s good, it indicates we are doing more critical (and biblical) thinking as opposed to being dragged into the passions of this world.
It’s why I re-registered some years ago as nonpartisan. While I usually still line up with conservative candidates (of good and sane character I have to add 🙂 ), I never become “sold out” to any politician. Part of that is maturity I think, but also a deeper appreciation for the truths of Scripture — always more complex (and yet vastly more clear and true) than anything we see in our partisan surroundings (which strike me as rather superficial the older — and I hope the wiser — I get!).
There are some lawsuits going on in MN, which are necessary, IMO. I fail to see how the system with these changes can make sure there are no noncitizens voting or students voting twice with any timeliness in the very least. One of our former senators was elected with a 312-vote margin.
I’m reminded of Habakkuk today – trust the Lord no matter what.
~ (3:17) Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labor of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat … (3:18) Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will take joy in the God of my salvation. ~
God’s ways are not our ways.
Praying for the nation in the week to come and trusting in God’s providence.
The pastor basically said again that it won’t be good no matter who wins because our nation has been trending more and more into untighteousness. We were in Genesis, studying Noah.
Janice, I think many pastors are very stressed right now. Many are getting an ear full from congregants on both sides of the aisle and in between too. I pray that God strengthen them for these trying times .
I believe that no matter who wins God will care for those who love him and lean on him. He opens doors, windows and cracks in the wall if need be. He is faithful, and those who pray ‘not my will but thine be done’ can have assurance that it will be so in their own lives, even if it’s uncomfortable. We are his lights shining in the dark in his time. How can that not be good.
AJ? Was there some earlier/actual context to your post @7:52 you could cite (“partisan BS / abortion lies trying to affect the election”)? You’ve lost me.
My pastor would not disagree at all that God cares tremendously for His own and does have good plans for us. He is not unhopeful about that. I guess I could have said it differently or expanded on it. He is a very positive pastor. But realistic about how much difference that politics can make in creating a different moral landscape. Only God can do that.
In his sermon about Noah, he said it is important to notice that a verse says that God gave favor to Noah before He found him to be righteous. He said Noah still had sin and would sin more after that point in the Noah story.
Janice, I’m sure your pastor is prepared and preparing his congregation. Mine is as well. We even hosted a town hall at our church featuring all the local candidates for local positions. I’m thinking it is important to be prepared for anything after the national elections regardless of who wins. But I’m also preparing myself not to get too drawn in to post-election drama. Every stressful event is an opportunity. :–)

One view of where we are (and it makes me think that had Trump wanted to take over the country on Jan. 6 that he would have done this):

I see seeBS is pushing abortion lies to try to affect the election.
Disgusting and completely partisan BS on the eve of the election, all in service to Democrats.
This is why people hate the media.
