  1. Good morning! It’s 60° and sunny, going up to low 80s. Lows down in the 50s. My kind of weather.

Late yesterday I got in the longest walk since recovery from tendonitis. It was sweet except for Halloween decor and political signage which has increased for only one candidate. Not a sign for the other side.

  2. Happy Belated Anniversary Michelle and Robert. (My mind says his name in French [ro-BEAR] since Michelle is a French name.)

M- I agree with your note about partiality towards America. While God has blessed us we are NOT his chosen people.

  3. I also appreciated “M’s” comment yesterday. We most definitely need more biblical perspective in all of this.

Halloween “decorations” don’t bother me, and some of them are creative and not that ghoulish — and I think for most people it’s a way to “laugh” in the face of all things gruesome in this world

As for me, a fall-themed door wreath and a pumpkin with orange twinkle lights fit the season best. 🙂

Political signs also don’t get to me, I’ve seen a few Trump signs in our neighborhood now starting to appear, none for Harris (but overall fewer than is typical for a presidential year) — all a reminder that we have the freedom to vote in our country and then to accept and acknowledge a peaceful transfer of power, whether ‘our side” wins or loses, amen? Let’s hope that will continue for a bit longer, God willing.

I love walking Abby through the neighborhood at the end of the day, it’s been a tradition for me that goes all the way back to when I still lived “at home” and my mom and I would head out every night with whatever dogs we had at the time, a sweet hour to catch up, check out who was doing work on their houses, who got a new fence (and how we felt about that fence), randomly chat, and just enjoy to quietness of the evenings.

Happy Wednesday all. Keep the faith.

  4. I appreciated the Halloween decor from the past. It has certainly gotten over the top in some yards in this area. Remember my friend who saw the giant serpent swallowing the Christmas tree? So much more gruesome than before, like inviting evil.

Just wishing there could be the appearance of balance in the neighborhood with the political signs, but people are fearful. Not a good “sign.” Fear rules in this area. I wonder why? I am glad people feel safer where you live, Dj.♡

One friend who gets around town has seen a few Trump signs out but heard the people always take them in overnight.

  5. Stealing political signs used to be a thing among the more intense political types; still happens, every once in a while someone wants us to do a story on it but we pass. I think some worry more about bumper stickers maybe resulting in car damage (well, both from young vandals and also from just the residue they leave!).

My mom and I would walk late, often after I got home after a night-shift at Sears (so between 9 and 10 p.m.). And we lived adjacent to south LA where there were some issues. But I can’t remember that we never felt “unsafe.” It felt always like a quiet and peaceful time.

Walking by myself here I’d never walk *too* late, 8 would be the latest. But until the time changes, I’m enjoying getting it in before it gets completely dark. These days I’m more concerned about broken sidewalk trip hazards than I am about crime after dark! I did get some night clip-on LED lights to wear that really help, though.

  6. I bought him a shirt instead of a coffee pot at Costco. He gave me a blessing–which was very sweet.

I’ve hardly seen him today, the first of our 48th year together.

    So strange, I could swear I’m still about 35 . . . . LOL

Meanwhile, pictures of the sky in Florida look terrifying this mornig.

  7. My dog-walking friend feels a bit unnerved by all the skeletons in our area lately. She has made me think more deeply about such things. I told her we can look at them as an opportunity to praise God that He can make dry bones come to life to fight battles. Also they can remind that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

She’s never had children of her own, but has cared for many children. I think she is concerned that some will have fears over the scary decor.

  8. Studying in the book of John with my online group, two days ago, brought me to a passage I had never paid attention to before:

    John 5:28-29

“”Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all in the tomb shall hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgement.”

All of the neighborhood front yard gravesites that have body parts sticking out relate to this verse. So timely. I can pause and pray that the people who live there will be among those who are saved and have eternity with Jesus.

  9. Chili! I have a container of it from the market deli in my refrigerator, guess I’ll have some of that for lunch or dinner.

One yard has a skeleton dog which Abby was quite intrigued by, thinking it might be real and yanking the leash in that direction.

But I do prefer the softer, kinder “Halloween/fall” decorations myself, of course.

  10. Good piece on salvation:

~ It has long been the conviction of Christians that once we have truly come to Christ in repentance and faith, we can never fall away from that faith. Those who have been justified can never be unjustified; those who have been indwelled by the Spirit will never be abandoned by him. Yet Christians have also agreed that it is possible for us to deceive ourselves and to deceive other people into thinking we have trusted in Christ when we have not. Hence we are told to be diligent in confirming our “calling and election” (1 Peter 1:10).

Knowing that we can be self-deceived, we must examine our lives to ensure we are living as Christians are called to live—that we are putting sin to death, that we are coming alive to righteousness, and that we are finding ever-greater joy in our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. And always we must pray that God would graciously preserve us by his Spirit so we can live in a way that is pleasing to him, then finish our race well and go to be with him forever.

Today I am sharing a prayer that is also a poem written by John Ernest Bode. I read it often and as I do I make the prayer my own. I use it to give me words to plead with God that he would grant me grace to do what I have promised—to serve him faithfully to the end. Perhaps you would benefit by praying it as well and letting it express the longing of your heart. ~
