  1. Good morning! Five days into the last quarter of this year, already. Time flies!

Concerning our weather, it is very pleasant except that we get the drift . . .

I put Art’s briefcase in the car for him since he hobbies with his cane. When I went outside, I smelled the ugly air. Another day to stay indoors.

  2. I’ll pop in, mumsee, just to say hi. I hope we get a bit of rain today. We could have storms. We do not want lightening, but greatly need rain. The wind will be even higher tomorrow and fire danger is very high.

Janice, that video of the little one was hilarious. Oh, how hard those life lessons can be for all of us!

  3. I don’t know if anyone here has Right Now Media offered through some churches. A friend gave me access through a NC church some years ago and my church offers it, too.

This morning I found a series of John Piper talking with Shane and Shane about worship using the Psalms. I listened to the first video. Very good.

I am putting a link here in case anyone might want to see it. Many Bible studies are offered for free through Right Now. I can tell you how to get the app if desired.

  4. So the trainer came late yesterday. Abby jumped right into my car for her, no hesitation. (I was also able to have success after that, but sheesh, dogs!).

    Happy Saturday everyone.

  5. I seem to have something they call “fall webworms” in the backyard, detected by the large, dense hammock-sized webs that appear on tree branches, in flowering bushes.

I’ve been knocking the webs out with a large stick and strong hose blasts if they’re too high to reach; but I also ordered some non-toxic spray from Amazon that is supposed to be good to use.

  6. Mumsee, 🙂

    Janice, maybe related?

Here’s an article on the Medicare Advantage ‘scale-back’:

    https://www.axios.com/2024/10/03/medicare-advantage-plans-2025-beneficiaries

~ Major insurers including Aetna and Humana are scaling back their Medicare Advantage plans for next year, leaving some seniors around the country hunting for new care arrangements just weeks before the 2025 sign-up period begins.

Why it matters: Private Medicare plans will cover more than half of Medicare beneficiaries, or 35.7 million people, next year. Even small disruptions to coverage could be difficult for seniors living on fixed incomes to manage.

The big picture: Medicare Advantage has been a lucrative and fast-growing business over the past couple of years, but the tide may be shifting after the Biden administration made a series of changes to reimbursements and other policies that didn’t land well with insurers. ~

  9. Sorry, Jo, glad you are able to make plans and move along. No figuring on people.

My sister has been on our minds lately. Yesterday was her birthday but she died twenty four years ago. Anyway, she and her family lived in a nice little house in Moscow. When my dad married after the death of my mom, he and his wife moved out of our teenage home to a house at the end of sister’s street, less than a half of a block away. For the next ten or fifteen years, they rarely saw each other. Linda would say dad is always busy. Dad would say Linda was busy with her family and he did not want to impose. Dad did go to children’s games and played tennis with one. It was always odd to me, but I understood what they were saying.

Though we spent a lot of our oldest children’s lives overseas or out of the area, we tried to see that they and their cousins got lots of time together to build those relationships. I would take them all camping together for weeks in the summer. Now that they are grown and living in the same city of Boise, they never see each other. Daughter used to try inviting them over but no response. No figuring people.

  10. Yes, people are funny. I am funnier in my older age!

I have not talked with my brother on the phone all year. He used to call and talk my ear off almost every day. I am enjoying not having to say “uh huh” numerous times daily. I had enough closeness for a lifetime as we spent five weeks together 24/7 in the hospital and at our home with me helping care for him after his open heart surgery. I don’t mind having a meal out with him and son and husband.

It was amusing that my FL cousin called me this week. While talking she got a call from my brother. I told her to take his call. She and I will talk later.

  11. My brother has nothing to do with me or my family, although he and his family did break that temporarily to come to Hubby’s memorial service seven years ago. His daughter/my niece is in contact with Nightingale, and they get together now and then, but I haven’t seen her. SIL used to keep in touch with me occasionally via email, but last time I tried to send her an email (last year or the year before, I think), I received a message that her email address was no longer in use.

We live in the same small town, within a five-minute drive of each other.

  12. It seems that y’all could make a way to be in touch, Kizzie, in such a small town. I think it is ideal to be in groups together. Then you see them and don’t have to be so personal with them. Are there any events at church you could invite them to?

My husband and son are in regular contact with my brother so we can find out about health issues either has that way.

  13. Janice – For me to reach out after 12 or 13 years with no relationship except for that blip after Hubby died, to invite them to a church event would not seem right. Especially since they are pretty adverse to Christianity. We would need to have some kind of relationship for an invitation to a church event to seem more natural.

As it stands now, to do so would merely come across as me trying to “push my religion” on them out of the blue. 😦

However, they are in my prayers daily, and I also pray for guidance as how to eventually reach out to them.

  14. For the first several years, I occasionally emailed my SIL, who reciprocated, to keep the door open. But then she dropped that and didn’t bother to let me know.

  15. Kizzie, I think with the times being more difficult than ever, I think some people who have never been open to church before might have an interest these days. But you know them first hand, and you know your comfort level.

We used to invite my brother to go to special church events that were very nice, but he always found something to complain about, even though he is a Christian, so we stopped doing that.

Maybe if Nightingale got together with cousin then eventually they could have a meal to invite their parents to rebuild family connections.

  16. Rebuilding the relationship through Nightingale’s relationship with Niece could be possible some day. I will pray about it and see if the opportunity arises to talk to Nightingale about it.

  17. Hi, all. We’re trying out our “new” rv trailer. It’s actually 8 years old, but has new appliances. We’re at the campground on the cave property, so we get to stay free. Next weekend we’re going to a Bible conference and using the trailer for lodging, since the conference lodgings are full.

As for seeing relatives who are nearby, we used to live in the same small city with my siblings and usually only saw them at church once or twice a week. It’s not that we have hard feelings, we were all busy with jobs and families of our own.
