My comment about presidents and disaster areas still stands — you can’t win either way – visit or don’t visit. Alot of Monday morning quarterbacking on FEMA response – happens every major hurricane and the rhetoric comes from the opposition party (either one). In this case, do Republicans admit FEMA needs more money due to the increase in extreme storms in the last decade (don’t even have to mention its from climate change)
Money comes from different envelopes hence money goes to Ukraine or even within FEMA it has separate envelopes. Then again FEMA shouldn’t be involved in moving migrants – leave them in Texas, right?
To be fair, I don’t buy any argument that starts with “we don’t have the money”. 2008 demonstrated to me that if money is needed, the gov’t can print it. If the banks need money or there is a war, suddenly the gov’t is in charge of printing money. If not, its becomes “complicated” and the gov’t has to “borrow”.
I thought Texas and Florida Republicans were sending migrants to the “blue” cities on purpose. Now, the Democratic cities are purposely importing migrants? Should Texas and Florida have kept the migrants?
My CA friend just told me it is fake news that FEMA funds have been misappropriated. Oh, well, another one bites the dust. The year of friendship funerals.
“If you’re a white American, live in rural Georgia or North Carolina, and just had your home destroyed by Hurricane Helene – Kamala Harris wants you to receive disaster aid last because of your skin color:Kamala:
“It is our lowest income communities and our communities of color that are most impacted by these extreme [weather] conditions and impacted by issues that are not of their own making.”
Reporter: “And women!”
Kamala: “Absolutely and so we have to address this in a way that is about giving resources based on equity, understanding that we fight for equality, but we also need to fight for equity, understanding, not everyone starts out at the same place. If we want people to be in an equal place, sometimes we have to take into account those disparities. And do that work.””
“Why is your auto insurance renewal quote skyrocketing in price?
The #1 reason for the rate increases, according to auto insurance companies, is the increased costs for repairs from the rapid influx of uninsured and unlicensed migrants.
Because they usually lack insurance, good drivers insurance carriers are forced to cover the costs.”
“Everyone should be waking up this morning outraged… They have taken the FEMA EMERGENCY food and shelter program, and over time, siphoned off hundreds of millions of dollars into basically making it an illegal immigrant resettlement program.”
“Our country spent all its FEMA money on illegal immigrants and has none left for Americans dealing with natural disasters. This by itself, in a rational country, would make Kamala unelectable.”
“It’s over, the choice is clear. You don’t have to like him but you see what America first was and now we see what America last is. You can’t defend this administration.”
I had a brilliant comment and it disappeared – afraid you’ll have to do without my brilliance.
In short, disaster relief is a no win for any president. Damned if he visits, damned if he doesn’t. At least Biden didn’t throw paper towels.
Budget money has different envelopes and thus money to Ukraine can’t be redirected nor would it exist if Ukraine didn’t exist. FEMA itself has different envelopes, although I’m not sure why they are involved with migrants.
I thought Texas and Florida sent the migrants to places like Philadelphia to put the burden on Democratic cities. But now apparently, Democrats wanted these migrants and have somehow got the Texas governor to do their dirty work?
I no longer accept the excuse there’s not enough money. In 2008, money was printed for bankers and money is always available for wars. But when its a social or relief program, the gov’t has to “borrow” money? The gov’t can print it when they want to.
Harris is right – disasters normally have a bigger impact on lowest income communities and people of colour. “lowest income” does include white people. People of colour are mentioned because historically blacks were segregated in environmentally bad neighbourhoods.
Janice (@10:48) – Does that mean that she unfriended you or you unfriended her? (I’m assuming you were referring to Facebook, but I could be mistaken.)
Sure, fire the guy getting to the bottom of your disastrous border policies the govts child trafficking op, and the 2 assassination attempts on your rival. Seems legit. 🙄
“It appears that Joe Biden is preparing to fire DHS IG Joseph Cuffari.Cuffari has been a one-man wrecking crew against Biden regime exposing huge failures in border security including lost children as well as Secret Service lapses on January 6.”
Kizzie, not Facebook. But I feel no need to comment further with details. She and I will still be Facebook friends. I have never unfriended anyone on Facebook with whom I have a personal relationship, whether in person or online.
“GOOD NEWS GUYS.Kamala is finally giving money to victims of the hurricane.
Oh wait, it’s only $750 each.I mean, per household, not per person.
And only to people already on EBT or govt assistance.
And you have to apply for it online, and receive it online (if you’re approved).
Even if you don’t have internet or a phone… because, hurricane. But don’t worry, Sec Mayorkas says FEMA is out of money anyway.
No money left for the rest of Hurricane season!I guess the nearly $1B —yes BILLION—that FEMA spent on “welcome centers” for illegal aliens in the past two years drained the hurricane cash stash pretty quick.”
Janice – I am glad to hear that. It saddens me to see people unfriending on Facebook or cutting off relationships in real life because of their political leanings.
If FEMA is being used for migrant care or to solve the problems of illegal immigration, I think that is a gross misuse. But I am afraid we expect too much from organizations like FEMA or the Red Cross. Yes they should probably be more prepared, but to be fair I don’t think they ever have been as much on top of things as we think they should be.
In 2011 a string of tornadoes brought horrific damage to large parts of the South, including my neighborhood. There was no power for almost 2 weeks. We were the only ones who stayed in our immediate neighborhood during that time. We slept in the house at night and during the day we camped on the carport—cooking on a grill or in a bonfire in the back yard. Fortunately the water was still available. The very first people to come through after the storm were volunteer teams of neighbors who checked the houses for injured people. The next people I remember were from different churches. The volunteers and the churches were there days before the Red Cross or FEMA—Samaritans Purse was present before either. Biker clubs distributing batteries were there before FEMA or Red Cross. FEMA was of no use to us at all and the Red Cross practically none. I’m sure they have their uses, but if we had been relying on those government organizations, we would not have survived.
More than anything, I remember and treasure the response of the Church. All different denominations—the Baptist chainsaw gang removed most of a huge tree that had fallen on our house and our neighbor’s. They cleared out many trees blocking our cars (one of which was totaled). And I remember the pastor of one very small church nearby who came down the street pulling a little red wagon with ice water and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. PBJ never tasted soooo good. I have never been more moved by the eager and loving response of the Church that I witnessed at that time.
I expect that the government agencies can be more involved in long term rebuilding, or in rescues or demolitions that require heavy equipment. But as I witnessed, those projects are extremely limited and for people who are renting there is practically no help at all. I am afraid that people affected by Helene have experienced devastation that cannot/will not be undone by government help, although I hope government can help put the infrastructure back in place relatively soon.
Kizzie, I know at one time we became unfriended on Facebook and for whatever reason it happened, I believe we both have been truthful when saying neither if us did that. It was another of the many strange things that happen in regards to my phone, I suppose.
“DeSantis humiliated Biden by announcing that he’d send in the Florida National Guard to guard & run the ports and hours later the strike disintegrated.
“Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wisc) to me regarding what appears to be Joe Biden’s imminent firing of DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari
“It is no surprise the Biden-Harris administration has not appreciated the independent scrutiny conducted by DHS Inspector General Cuffari. He began his tenure by cleaning out bad apples in the DHS Inspector Generals office. He has conducted aggressive and comprehensive investigations of the Biden-Harris administration’s disastrous immigration polices. This has made him an obvious target for removal. The efforts to silence and remove Inspector General Cuffari are unacceptable and an affront to transparency and accountability at DHS.””
“He laundered all of the money to open borders NGO’s. Mayorkas himself was part of such a group. It’s a scandal he was ever appointed to a position giving him power over illegal immigration.”
Isaac Saul’s “My Take” in this edition of Tangle is worth reading. (Scroll down on the page for this part.)
~ “A horrific tragedy is unfolding in North Carolina and across the southeastern United States. But a specific kind of reaction to this tragedy has caught my attention today and is infuriating to watch play out: Liars and hacks have decided to capitalize on it for social media clout. […]
In situations like this, helping people in disaster areas requires a tremendous amount of planning, coordination, and — perhaps most of all — reliable information. Federal, state, and local governments need to coordinate. Citizens need to receive information from rescue services, and they need to trust that information so they can act on it. Saving people in these situations is incredibly challenging, harrowing, and complicated.
Unfortunately, it’s also election season, which means that some online influencers and pundits — many on the right, but some on the left, too — decided that a healthy information system is less useful to them than an opportunity to score political points. Thus, they started inundating social media and partisan news outlets with utter nonsense. […]
Again: I’m not trying to defend FEMA, or the federal government more broadly. In fact, I once reported on all the mistakes FEMA made in Puerto Rico, and actually got FEMA representatives to admit (on the record) errors they had previously not disclosed. If they screw up in North Carolina, I’ll promptly say so, and will report on it. What I am trying to do is dispel misinformation that creates real problems, and could lead to real issues. […]
[…]A bunch of opportunistic grifters want to make the president and vice president look bad, so they will say whatever they want in order to do so. They’ll spin the information black hole created by downed cell towers, no internet service, and clogged or unusable roadways into mainstream apathy, tying that same information blackout to apathy from the federal government. Somewhere in there, they’ll point people to their own websites, writing, or subscriber-only content to cash in on their lies.
I am praying and hoping and wishing for a robust response to the horrors in North Carolina and the Southeast. If you want to do something to help, a western North Carolina radio station has listed all the ways people can support the area. We should all keep our attention and focus there, and hold our federal government to the highest standards possible in their response. But, while we do, let’s not make the situation actively worse by spreading lies.
We can support our fellow Americans, and hold our leaders accountable, while also remaining faithful to the truth. Not only can we, but it is the only way to help; otherwise, we put those same people we claim to care for in more danger.” ~
Thanks Kizzie, I do appreciate Tangle and other fair sites in this era of speculation passing for trustworthy information. One has to look and seek them out, but they are available and worthwhile in this crazy ‘information’ era we live in.
“Just received this note from a SpaceX engineer helping on the ground in North Carolina.
@FEMA is not merely failing to adequately help people in trouble, but is actively blocking citizens who try to help!
“Hey Elon, update here on site of Asheville, NC. We have powered up two large operating bases for choppers to deliver goods into hands. We’ve deployed 300+ starlinks and outpour is it has saved many lives.
The big issue is FEMA is actively blocking shipments and seizing goods and services locally and locking them away to state they are their own. It’s very real and scary how much they have taken control to stop people helping. We are blocked now on the shipments of new starlinks coming in until we get an escort from the fire dept. but that may not be enough.””
In my experience of 2011 there was some small friction from the Red Cross who didn’t appreciate the help from others. I didn’t bite and just expressed appreciation for all help. But it was and is my perception that government doesn’t like to be upstaged.
Are we seeing reports of FEMAS stellar response during the perfect photo op for the admin and prospective president? I’d more than love to have seen that Take Charge attitude up front from the administration. We have a problem, Houston. We have an agency designed and well funded to cover such catastrophes. Did we learn anything from Katrina? Do we care?
Do we have stories from many local diverse sources that all point to a lack of activity on FEMAs part?
Do we see a local disaster affecting the air we breathe and see the downplay of it by emergency management and government authorities (I know their hands are full with the storm disaster . . . does that mean other disasters and people suffer harm from neglect?)? The governor is considering declaring the chemical fire here a disaster for that one county.
Have we been lied to by the media about other things in order to make a certain person look good who is a candidate for election?
So many things that are questionable. It”s what is being left out of the news that is the news.
I just saw live video of Trump and Kemp in Evans, GA. Trump praised Kemp for doing an excellent job. It seems the storm has helped cement their working relationship. Kemp told about some of the people who have died in Georgia. One was a young mother, maybe 27 y/o who had 1 month old twins. So heartbreaking. And two elementary school age children, brother and sister, who died in the same manner as the young mother, from trees crashing on/into their homes.
She asks a good question: where are they going to buy things?
Also, are they planning to mail the checks?
Can they get to an open bank to cash the checks or will it be credit cards loaded with $750?
If they decided to send cash, perhaps that will be intercepted by tipped off people from other nations that happened to have been dropped off in the community in time for voting.
I’m not on instagram so I can’t see the original video, Janice. But I remember thinking how fortunate we were back in 2011 to live in an area where there were many people and businesses NOT affected directly by the tornadoes. That meant we were able to still work and find a stocked grocery store. The banks were open. The mail ran or could be picked up at the Post Office. And there were people available who could help those who were unable to help themselves. The people in rural areas affected by these floods and landslides are in a much more precarious position.
I thought this was an interesting article. On the one hand we’ve seen China try to forcibly limit family size by pressuring women to have an abortion, now Russia is trying to do the opposite it seems. They are considering a legal ban on the ‘ideology of childlessness’. The term seems amorphous to me. I admire the idea of bolstering and encouraging “a close knit and large family”, but I have grave doubts that this is how to do it. In fact, it could backfire badly.
Janice the media always lies. They have an agenda and will stop at nothing to accomplish their agenda.
Trump just might actually care….what a concept!
I have family and a friend of mine is from eastern TN….J would rather have eyewitness accounts of what is happening rather than to believe this corrupt government any day. This administration will always put American citizens last and it shows!
He will make a fine Senator.

Just thinking logically:
