Good morning. We will have a beautiful day, weatherwise, and have 70 degrees predicted. Leaves are changing color. However, the colors are overall not as beautiful as some years. We are very dry again, which leads to fire danger.
The regular jam has been cancelled the last two weeks because of Covid in the building. It will be back today.

We still have poor air quality here. Our county adjoining the county where the chemical fire is still sending out smoke. EPA is treating it as if it is only affecting the air in that one county. They have a shelter in place during the evening hours. Lifecis weird these days.
Good morning, all. Another beautiful day here as well. Two different neighboring families have lost cats to a bobcat recently. Wondering how long Pretty Kitty and the Seven Dwarfs will hold on. Though we have seen bobcats here and our cats seem to age well.
Spanky and Alfalfa, those were the days (and even before my time — but I remember those old shows still running here and there on TV when I was a kid).
The days are getting shorter, I’m having to walk Abby earlier, but that’s kind of good; walking her as soon as I’m off work pretty much now, but nice to get it over with. We do run into more (other) dog walkers now, though, so it requires some juggling to detour into or across streets as Abby gets way too (happily) excited when she sees another dog.
I’m wearing a sweatshirt in the damp mornings but the afternoons are warming up again.
Our Aetna “Signature” Medicare Advantage plan with all the perks will not be offered in 2025. It must have not been profitable to them to offer so many benefits. We shall see what we can get instead.
I’ve also thought of Chas’ family with this hurricane.
janice @12:30, so sorry, for that unneeded insurance upheaval, hopefully something similar that won’t require changes in doctors, etc. I’m still on traditional medicare with a PPO plan that’s really good (but costs about $300 a month, which I can do only because I’m still working). I can make appts without referrals with any doctor who takes Medicare which is so convenient.
Even the doctors say, “oh, you have very good insurance” before they send me off for some test or other. I’m trying to hang in there so I can keep it as long as possible. I have friends who go through long waits for referrals, mix ups regarding the referrals, and then even when that’s sorted out they can’t get in to see doctors quickly.
I found out from the agent that we can get basically the same plan but with higher co-pays. The letter we received made it sound so complicated. The agent said it was a poorly worded letter. They gave no options. Thankful for the agent. But he has not told the details of how much the copay is increasing.
Dj, I can’t remember, but does Abby have the problem getting in the vehicle in the back seat? I know you must have tried the front seat, too, at a separate time?
If you sat in the driver’s seat and left the front passenger door open and offered her a treat or had a kitten in your hands, would she perhaps jump in? Good reason to get a kitten if only to foster♡
Janice, in ANY seat! Actually, for the 2 weeks we had success we had her (finally) jumping into the front seat and I left her there for the brief ride to and from the neighborhood park for the walks. (And initially, that’s what the trainer had me do, sit in the drivers seat while she handled Abby, giving her a little leash yank to finally get her to jump up into the passenger seat where there were treats.)
I will want to transition Abby to the back cargo area w/backseat down (I keep it down anyway) — but all in good time. I may have to do that by getting her to transition between the two front seats. If that’s complicated, I can put up the back seat if she seems more amenable to that.
But she’s entirely too big to be in the front passenger seat, although she sits and rides well, quietly, just looking out the windows.

The fosters did seem to think there “may” have been some abuse or mistreatment in her past, she can be startled (and flee) by seeing a broom picked up, for example.
Hard to know, but I am curious how she landed in the shelter — shelter was one about an hour inland from me near the foothills but rescue group/fosters that got her out and took her in for a month said shelter claimed to have “no” information or paperwork on her, which was odd. Usually they can tell you at least if the dog was picked up as a stray or turned in … but who knows, different shelters have different protocols and there’s a lot of concern about protecting everyone’s information (I guess including a dog’s!) and Abby’s not talking.

I ordered some window blinds for the kitchen and the room behind it. These are the waffle kind that block both heat and cold. So should help us keep cold and warm. I had them measure for the livingroom, but there are five large windows in there and the price was too much.

Filled out some forms to take funds out of an account. They said that they are working on online forms. It felt like they had walls up around my money.
Rescue group (folks whom I know and they’re where I got Tess & Cowboy from) said Abby would “need work” so they wanted an experienced dog owner to adopt her. She’s actually been pretty easy in many respects. But not all.
Owls. We have a variety here but for whatever reason, so far we have not lost cats to them either. They roost in the willows on the edge of the property and often come into the pines and spruces by the house.
I hear Oregon plans to shoot thousands of their barred owls.

Owls are the worst predator for our cats. If you hear them hooting, you know you will be missing cats, or have some serious lacerations to flanks.
