~ Dennis Quaid is well cast in this affectionate biopic of the 40th U.S. president. Those nostalgic for Reagan-era conservatism (or just presidents we can respect) will find much to like here, even as the film’s telling of history is obviously one-sided and occasionally hagiographic in its portrayal of The Gipper. Directed by Sean McNamara, Reagan captures a bygone era of dignity, class, and conviction in political leadership that feels refreshing (plus Scott Stapp makes a cameo). In an election season as ugly as we’ve ever seen, a movie like Reagan reminds us of a time when presidents were driven by clear ideals and the office commanded respect around the world. ~
Nightingale came home a little while ago from her Microbiology class. She was telling me that because they deal with biohazardous material, there are very strict rules about what can be brought into the room. Cellphones and keys are verboten.
If they are brought in and discovered, they will be confiscated and put in an autoclave, which destroys them. But the students have been warned, so they should know better.
I haven’t had time to read above comments, but wanted to post a link to a nice morning surprise of a story on the little restaurant I took Kim to when we got back here from Chas’ funeral.
The link also includes a long red warning for all of us in Georgia under flood watch. Yikes!
Scroll past the flood watch warning to see the cute restaurant. Art has not wanted to go there: too creative for his tastes.
Janice, that restaurant is SO beautiful, love all the wood- and ironwork, all the paned windows(!). Didn’t they say they also had a burger on the menu? (for Art?)
I’ve been resting my thumb (feeling much better today but still being careful as the doctor said the more rest it gets the better the shot will distribute and work); also doing some laundry, wiped down the front porch rocker so I can start reading out there again, doing a little reading inside, taking 1 work call (we’re invited to photograph & interview the visiting prime minister of Croatia on a port boat tour tomorrow — we have many Croatian people in our town).
Times did a piece on our recent strike vote (they have the same union). I doubt our company will budge and I’m not sure how long I’d be able to be on an upaid walkout. I’d have to start a strike fund for Abby.
And: Do I walk a solo picket line in front of my house? Just stick an “ON STRIKE” sign on my front porch and let the neighbors wonder … ? I’m still hoping it won’t come to that.
Read an article on flossing (see? I’m bored) and the advice now is to floss before you brush (I was taught to floss after brushing); spend extra time on each tooth, up-and-down several times, not just once and then moving on; and you should put toothpaste on your floss.
I’ve known that we’re supposed to floss before brushing, and I do, but hadn’t heard about putting toothpaste on it. Sounds a bit messy. I’ll pass on that part.
Regarding the review above of the Reagan movie, I had to look up “hagiographic”. “Very admiring of someone and representing the person as perfect or much better than they really are.”
Reagan’s flaws and failings are well-documented, but I believe he was the right man for his time, and I look forward to enjoying a positive portrayal of him, even if it is a bit hagiographic. 🙂
First post-op appointment today, podiatrist said everything looks good. Pain is way down and I’m off the strong stuff. Worked half a day today.
I had the burger at the restaurant, a black bean burger (may have changed now). Art would not like that, and I only got it once. I have really enjoyed their mahi mahi. And if a group has left over roasted Brussel sprout appetizers, I know how to finish them off.
When I went to the church this a.m. the parkIng lot was covered by large trucks. The film crews are back. They are making a TV series in the neighborhood down the road from us. A lady in Bible study said they can’t use part of streets in her neighborhood..
Good morning. Lovely day in the neighborhood. Lovely day for group Bible study! Still in the book of James.
Are you engaged in a book of the Bible or have any suggestions for what my group should study next?

Good morning all. A beautiful day here. Grandchildren were out in search of the kittens before light.

Searching for kittens … may they find them all. 🙂
We sang Psalm 146 on Sunday:
~ Praise the Lord, my soul! O praise him!
I’ll extol him all my days.
While I live, to God my Savior
from my heart I will sing praise.
Do not put your trust in princes,
mortal men who cannot save.
All their plans will come to nothing
When they perish in the grave …. ~

I’ll be joining a new church home group (since ours kind of faded out), led by my elder; the study is on Jonah.

I noted a red tail hawk checking out the kittens as well. I walked over and looked big. Hawk left. For now.

It does sound messy.
So someone maybe will figure out how to produce a dental floss with toothpaste somehow injected …
