  1. Kathaleena….

Good morning, all. Another beautiful day here. Husband plus two returns today as does son, who has been away for work and to the mountains for a few days. Seventeen daughter has done an excellent job holding up her chores and his.

  2. Lots of squirrels in my backyard and the neighbors’. They have fruit trees which draw them. Love hearing them chatter.

Off for another “thumb” steroid shot. I remember when everything on my body worked better.

  3. I have been looking at encouragement cards for the postal worker. I found a blank card, but hope for one that expresses a thought. Perhaps a thank you card? Just don’t want it to seem sarcastic. Maybe I will wait a few days before putting it out. I also thought of including some gift coupons, if I could get them, from free ice cream cones at a local parlor. Thinking I could do that for the garbage pickup guys, too?

  4. It was probably in the past year, when I was more mobile, that I chased down the mail truck as I had accidentally opened a social security envelope meant for a nearby neighbor on the adjoining street. Art had received an envelope and I assumed the one behind it was for me. Anyways, I was on my way to walk to the neighbor’s home and I had a flyer to invite the neighbor to a church event. Instead I gave the envelope to the postal lady and invited her to the church event. Turning lemons into lemonade 🙂

  5. Regarding my comment last night:

As I think I said, I tend to take the attitude of giving the benefit of the doubt to folks. At least part of the reason for that is because what I have seen from people who seem to do the opposite, such as my MIL.

So often, there is a reasonable explanation behind an action that looks suspicious or strange (or even stupid 😀 ) to us. Comedies have mined that idea for years, with a character hearing or seeing only one part of a conversation or action, and then jumping to the wrong conclusion. (Yesterday, former WMBer Tammy shared a funny video about that sort of thing.)

Years ago, we had a huge October snowstorm that knocked out power for a week for us, and longer for others, because there were still leaves on many trees, and the heavy snow had bowed down the branches, knocking down wires. There was a post on one of the local Facebook pages by a woman who proudly wrote that she had come upon one of the electric company trucks and saw the driver sleeping, and so she had pounded on the window to wake him up and yell at him to get back to work.

Unbeknownst to her, those guys were working something like 18-hour (or more) days, and were allowed to take a nap break. But she was so proud of herself for waking that guy up.

Anyway, that’s why I often think that there may be something behind what looks odd or wrong to us on the surface.

  6. No squirrels here, though there are many in the nearby woods. No chipmunks either. Though I like them, I am fine with them not being here. We do have wood rats.

  7. So, Kizzie, what is your plan to encourage your stressed community service workers? I think you have started a movement!

Patting yourself on the back for noticing something you thought was wrong is not enough to help the poor workers. 🙂 What is the proper response now that you made their conditions better known?

  8. Good story Kizzie, helps us to be more aware that things aren’t always what they may seem!

Thumb is still mostly numb from the shot and I’ve been icing it as the doctor recommended. He said we’ll see how long the relief lasts (was about a year the first time); he said if that starts being shorter we’d just go to the minor surgery they do for this.

  9. Janice – I’m not patting myself on the back.

That situation happened many years ago. If another like it comes up, I will see what efforts might be made to help, and do what I can at the time.

  10. Glad you got the fix, Dj.

I had a , “Bless his heart, ” moment. I found Art’s pain medicine cream with the lid left off. He has never been one to close boxes or much of anything he opens. His mind is so consumed with taxes. Glad I can go behind as the helpmate and do the little details to help in small ways that add up. I put the med cream on the first time for him, but he has done that for himself since. Mostly, I don’t want Miss Bosley licking the open med tube. Otherwise it wouldn’t matter.

  11. Our yard has squirrels and chipmunks. We have black squirrels in our area, but I’ve not seen one in our yard. They were imported by some rich folks in the early 1900s who donated land for a park and brought the rare critters here.

Numb Thumb is now achy thumb.
