You may remember that Nightingale had applied for, and was interviewed (twice), for a position at a hospital in Hartford. They interviewed about a hundred people, and it came down to two – Nightingale and a current employee of the hospital who has no experience as an LPN but must have been recently licensed as one.
Due to their policy of promoting within the hospital, the job went to the other woman. Nightingale is quite disappointed, but also feels good that she made it so close, especially with all of that competition.
