  1. Back home from Bible study. It was so good, in James, studying controlling the tongue. Don’t we all need that these days? One question was what headline would you give this passage? I said, Keeping the Tongue on a Tight Leash. Someone else said something about Tales. We had a dog theme going on. 🙂

I am revisiting my refill of unsweetened iced tea with a splash of sweet lemonade from Chick-fil-A. Keeping the joy flowing all day long.

  2. Made it to St Louis and back over a long weekend to see my college friend Jerry remarry after being widowed four years ago. The wedding was wonderful, but driving all day isn’t as fun as it used to be. 🙂

  3. I wish I could share all our Chick-fil-A locations with each of you. There is a new one that is a super duper double decker on another side of town. I will try to find a link because it is truly impressive!

  4. We just got a Wendy’s.

Story is in, even was able to verify the fancy rare champagne that they swung on a rope & crashed against the ship’s bow before blasting forth the horn.

  5. ~ After months of anticipation, McDonald’s is finally introducing the Big Arch – its biggest burger to date.

McDonald’s first announced its plans to introduce the Big Arch at its annual investor meeting in December 2023 in response to overwhelming customer demand for heartier burgers that are both flavorful and affordable.

This long-anticipated addition was originally being test run in select countries, but is now available in select countries including Canada and Portugal. ~

  6. We’ve lost a lot of the mid-range coffee house-type restaurants (Cocos, Marie Calendars, etc.) where folks could get a decent meal (usually) for a reasonable price (somewhat).

Seems like the pandemic killed a lot of that business sector for some reason, I guess people weren’t going out much and recovery was slow.

Mimi’s Cafe is a place friends and I would hit but last time I was there it was deserted (during the regular dinner hour), and only a few workers serving so service was very slow despite only a couple tables with customers. Several folks came in to pick up takeout orders, though.

So we’ve lost a lot of eating places too. But we still have lots of fast food places (but where prices have gone up).

  7. Atlanta keeps growing in population therefore we keep getting new places in anticipation of more, more, more . .

That new double decker Chick-fil-A is not too far from Art’s office. And it is not too far from the area where Truett Cathey (founder of Chick-fil-A) lived.

  8. Fast-food places have had to double what they pay employees just to get anyone to work, and probably most of them aren’t worth what they’re earning. Food costs have gone up, and as restaurants have raised their prices and customers are already paying more for groceries, customers aren’t paying those higher prices that are necessary to support the high wages. Customer service has also dropped, which scares off even more customers.

Basically “they” have been pushing for a $15 minimum wage for a long time, though we have been telling them the market just won’t support it. In the aftermath of Covid, they unofficially got that minimum wage–around here that’s about what businesses have been advertising as paying fast-food workers–but indeed most businesses can’t support that level of pay for mostly mediocre workers. It’s a vicious circle, and I don’t see it ending anytime soon.
