  1. Love the gal doing my pt, but I may have to tell her no more on the machine where you are on your back and pushing with your feet. I have been in pain since I left there even though I ended my time with ice packs on my foot, knee, and hip.

Granddaughter decorated her room yesterday by going through my cupboards and finding things. Always something. I am glad that someone in my family likes things that I saved. I just would have liked being part of the process.

  2. Good late morning. I’ve been making carrot juice. It’s easy but takes time.

Son finally got to the little project in the yard which was right beside our front porch. For some unknown reason, the tree people or someone, removed all the top soil and dug a little trench directly beside the brick of the house which was really not good. It would have caused a drainage problem with water running downhill by the lower level of our split level into the basement. I think son used two bags of pea gravel and eleven bags of top soil and a large bag of wheat straw to fill in. He moved ferns from the side yard. Over time I can transplant vinca for a ground cover. Thankful son finally made time to do it. Around here if you get one thing taken care of, it can lead to numerous other jobs. It keeps the economy vibtant!

  3. Jo, definitely mention that to her — I called it “the shuttle” or “bobsled,” it was helpful for my knees and legs but if it’s causing pain that lingers for you, they’ll want to adjust or change up that exercise.

Very busy end of the week here, I had a breaking story to quickly churn out in the last couple hours yesterday — and today there are 3 stories I need to do so hoping there isn’t an immediate followup to the breaking story from yesterday that comes down.

We have a huge — and brand new, just off the assembly line — zero-emissions container ship coming to port early next week so I promised the terminal & port I could get something written in advance to let folks know about it – they’re going to offer public tours that require early signups so that needs to get written today.

    But what about Abby?

Abby’s mobile groomer comes today around noon.

  4. We are expecting our daughter and the two youngest granddaughters soon. Should be a busy, but fun weekend.

Jo, I cannot imagine the gall of your granddaughter to do that. It is unreal to me. Incredibly insensitive and shows such a sense of entitlement. Keeping you in prayer for patience and the wisdom of when to speak and what to speak.

  5. Mobile groomer has arrived.

Abby thought this was not such a great idea and tried to turn around and go back into the house. But she finally gave in, though she spent most of her time standing / hiding behind me trying to be invisible as I talked to the groomer. She really is shy.

Groomer took over, lifted her into the van. She was shaking but she’s gone through this before and is fine (groomers tell me) once it all launches.

Let the wash, de-shedding and nail trim begin!

  6. Abby’s clean.

I forgot to tell him she doesn’t like the blow dryer so he mentioned that afterward, said she really doesn’t like the blow dryer, esp around her butt and tail. But he said she is “really a good” dog.

But she looks good and now is sporting a cute pink bandana as her reward for being such a good dog.

  7. And with a final lunch, I’m now retired.

It wasn’t a big job, particularly the last few years, but it was the longest one I ever had: 320 months. (I’d signed up for one month and stayed on for 20.5 more years).

  8. thanks Kathleen’s. And today it is all the cooking and just helping herself to my groceries without asking. Prayers for me as we need to talk and it is hard. She does buy things for herself but then uses anything of mine that she needs without asking

at least she is getting better at cleaning the kitchen. I do not wash her things

  9. Hey Jo, definitely you need to have a conversation. Part of it is simply knowing what her own home standards were. That was a bit of a learning curve when my husband and I married, for instance. In my own household growing up, I was never allowed to just help myself to any food, and I lived at home till the age of 20. But I realized upon joining my husband’s household that it wasn’t “wrong” that the girls (teens at the time) were permitted to get themselves a bowl of ice cream without specifically asking if it was OK–it was just different. In fact, it was probably my own family that was unusual in that regard; most teenagers are probably allowed to help themselves.

I’ve shared households with quite a few young women, and we ran the gamut of how we worked with groceries. In one household everyone bought their own food and put it on their own shelf in the kitchen. In one, we all put money in the kitty and then bought groceries from the kitty, and we all were free to eat any of it. In one (probably my own favorite), my housemate and I agreed we’d each buy food, and we’d also each be free to eat any food in the house–but that one took trust, and neither of us “taking advantage” of the situation. Having a rent amount that includes food is another option, though it’s one I never personally did.

Most likely she has been free to eat whatever food is present in the house. Unless you specifically ask her not to, that is part of living in a household, that you’re welcome to eat the food in that house.
