I bought brown button mushrooms at Sam’s. Inquiring minds want to know the difference between the brown and white. I found out that the white ones are like toddlers, the brown are like teenagers, and portabellas are the adults. Learning something new each day I live!
Morning!! It’s hot and we continue to wait for rain. They arrested an arsonist in Castle Rock who set one of the fires near Boulder. We live in a crazy world.
Told husband I’m not cooking today. He said he would take me out to lunch…guessing Chick Fil A!! He loves their milk shakes.
And now I have learned about mushrooms as well! I wonder if I can remember that difference the next time I purchase them. Great information Janice. Do they taste different though? Now I’ll need to do a taste test😊

son out law and grands are here this weekend. He told us the judge now says he needs to take domestic violence classes. Judge requested the CPS reports and police reports on him. His lawyer had to report there are none on him. The only CPS reports and police reports are all calls on her, in Idaho and in Utah. And so it goes.
The brown ones seem a bit firmer so maybe a little less taste. The brown is just on the surface, like a tan. The inner part is creamy white.
I have a thick sock like brace (without the toe) which I have gotten used to wearing. My Powerstep insoles arrived yesterday. They help some, but I feel like I have a lump under each foot for arch support. This is for tendinitis affecting my ankle. The insoles slightly change the way I use my muscles so I can’t wear them for too long to start. I did not wear them to walk in Sam’s. I did not expect the insoles to make me tired, but using muscles even a little differently is truly tiring.
We’re getting warmer weather – mid to high 70s today, which doesn’t sound awful, but it’s just feeling warmer than usual, probably the humidity still being a bit high. I have the fans going already today.
I have some prescriptions to pick up (but one they’re out of so I need to see if they can give me some to hold me over), need to get to the ATM, and am having dinner out with a friend.
My daughter and family is at a lake. We have had hot, perfect weather for being at the lake—until today. 😦 SIL had to put the screen tent up in the rain. I am sure they will have a nice visit with relatives anyway.
Otherwise, I don’t mind the mid-sixties temperatures.

It is the 170th anniversary so will be a big crowd for church and a free lunch provided by Matthew’s, the great restaurant on main street in the small town in which the church resides. We have many small towns within the Metro area. Praying for a wonderful service and reunion. I have a touch of sniffles this morning.

Jo – That’s a tough question. The first one that comes to mind is a reasonable time (to both of you, if possible) for her to be in. (But I would resist calling it a curfew, to soften the idea of it.) Cleaning up after herself is another good one, but I would wait to see if she does that on her own before asking.
That part about waiting to see if she does it on her own may have been, I think, inspired by something that sometimes happened when I was a little girl. Someone would give me something, and before I could say “thank you”, my mom would interject, “Say ‘thank you’.” Then it felt like they both figured that I was only saying it because Mom told me to, and I would feel embarrassed.
Jo, I would check with the parents and find out the rules she lives under at home. Let those remain in place. If any of those are too lax for you then make it clear up front giving the loving reason that your house rules may seem more strict than what she is used to. Are you able to keep track of her location through your phone? This day and age that might be a good thing to do because you are not aware of what job she will get and who she will be around. You are the responsible party and are fairly new to the area as a resident yourself so you may not be fully aware of threats to her safety.
In my opinion, it is good to have that discussion up front. You each have expectations, talk, share concerns.
Then, let her know her responsibilities in your house. Her age makes a difference, of course. Is she a teen, or twenties?

do dishes after self
clean bathroom after self
sweep porch weekly
weed eat/ mow two hours per week
vacuum twice a week
grocery shop weekly
eat three meals per week together
commit to talking about the upcoming week every Sunday so you both know what to expect.
Whatever. Just so she is cleaning up after herself and contributing to the family situation.
I have had children return home that cleaned up after themselves and contributed in various ways so the visits always ended pleasantly. Always welcome back.
I have had children return home who were, thinking now they were grownups they did not need to do anything. We have a hotel in town, you can stay there.
Although I suggested waiting to see if she cleans up after herself, Mumsee’s advice seems better. And Janice has a good point about checking with her parents.
I guess my thoughts came from the idea that if you are not close (didn’t you mention that at sometime?), diving into the rules right off the bat could perhaps get in the way of developing the relationship first. But now I see the wisdom in dealing with those things first, to not cause a problem as time goes on.
Earlier today, I saw a cartoon on Facebook that showed a couple oysters or clams, with one sitting on top of a large pile of pearls. The other one asks that one, “I get the feeling something’s been irritating you.” After I laughed at it, a thought popped into my head, and I shared the cartoon with this preface:
“That’s a good spiritual lesson, too. Let the irritations of life produce pearls (of wisdom, love, longsuffering, etc.) in us.
(That’s what I am working on, and God is letting me have lots of practice.)”
NJ (from earlier in the thread), friend is doing well in the apartment, but finds challenges as she has no transportation; there is enough money in the trust for a used car so she is talking w/the trust administrator about that. Her doctor gave her a note clearing her to dive.
A Sunday nap may be in my immediate future. Church was good, made a quick grocery stop after that, but it’s another warm day and I’m having trouble keeping my eyes open.
Strange day. So I went by the coffee shop and saw my granddaughter for a few minutes. Then I went off to get a key made for her and then went home. She was going to my sisters and then coming. Well she never came. I got a text message around 5:30 saying they were going to a bob dylan concert and she would be home at one or two. Her cousin told her where the spare key was
I actually don’t expect her and am not leaving lights on.
Not a very thoughtful or respectful beginning. It would have been easy to come by here before the concert

Oh, Jo, that is not a good beginning. I would especially not be happy about someone else telling her about the spare key. Such things can be shared around too much.
Also, I found it interesting that Dj’s friend has been cleared to dive. Must be an Olympics thing. 😉

I wondered if the flavor would be more prominent in the smaller mushrooms Janice. Seems the smaller fruits/veggies the more flavorful in many cases.
And that sock kind of sounds like a torture device…with benefits hopefully!😊
Dj how is your friend faring in her new apartment? I pray she flourishes in her new environment and holds fast to the One watching over her.
Back from lunch at Rosie’s diner…we both only ate half our meals so dinner is in the fridge!

On the third round of laundry. It’s so hot in NorCal, the clothes are dry on the line by the time the next load finishes!
It was 12 Celsius when we left Sydney this (yesterday) morning

It was a pleasure to pull clothes out of the dresser rather than the suitcase, it’s like having a new wardrobe!
