  1. So good to hear this news on a personal level (though ‘swaps’ can always be a mixed blessing on a global/national political level) for those who have been praying and so concerned for Gershkovich, Whelan and the others:

~ Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, former Marine Paul Whelan, and more than a dozen others were released by Russia as part of a multi-country prisoner swap involving 24 prisoners and at least six countries. ~

  2. If I had a suspicious mind I would think the Dems have a prison plan for Biden after they 25 him. But then again it has been determined that he is too old and fuzzy brained to be prosecuted. They might even be able to hang Harris out to dry for allowing millions of illegal and even terrorists to infiltrate our country! King indeed!

“Given the dangerous and consequential implications of the Court’s ruling, legislation would be the fastest and most efficient method to correcting the grave precedent the Trump ruling presented,” Schumer, D-N.Y., said in a statement. “With this glaring and partisan overreach, Congress has an obligation — and a constitutional authority — to act as a check and balance to the judicial branch.”

The legislation, dubbed the “No Kings Act,” would ensure that neither sitting nor former presidents and vice presidents are entitled to immunity from prosecution for alleged crimes. The bill has more than two dozen Democratic signers.

If it is passed, the legislation would make it clear that Congress has the power to determine “to whom federal criminal laws may be applied,” not the Supreme Court, according to the bill’s outline provided by Schumer’s office.

In his statement explaining his reasoning for the legislation, Schumer called the Supreme Court’s decision about Trump’s immunity “disastrous,” arguing that “the Supreme Court threw out centuries of precedent and anointed Trump and subsequent presidents as kings above the law.”

  3. A little background on the Algerian boxer. She’s been banned by the international boxing association (IBA) for “elevated testosterone”. However, the IOC has taken over the boxing administration for the Olympics deeming the IBA as corrupt (it is). The IOC then allowed the Algerian boxer to participate because it has different rules regarding naturally occurring testosterone.

From what I understand, she was identified as female at birth (I can’t imagine Muslim Algeria promoting trans) and is similar to a few other female athletes who have above average testosterone for a female. Obviously it’s an advantage and especially obvious in a sport like boxing, but it’s a natural advantage. She’s not a trans athlete nor is her participation “wokeness”. The question is do we penalise people who have a natural advantage in a certain sport due to height (basketball), feet (swimming), etc. It’s not an easy question to answer. I hate to live in a world in which we punish people for having natural advantages (I think that’s the plot for a Bradbury short story).

Given its boxing, the differences are stark, but many successful female athletes do have elevated natural testosterone — Christine Sinclair one of the best female soccer players ever comes to my mind. I’m sure when we look at the 100 m finals in a few days, femininity will not come to mind. If we want to ban due to elevated testosterone, what will the level be and how will an athlete lower their levels?

    https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2024/7/31/republican-pac-winred-misleads-us-consumers-into-recurring-donations

This has been a recurring problem in other Trump related organisations. Pre-checked boxes are illegal in Canada but Conservatives have been accused of similar targets. Al-Jazeera mentioned ActBlue at the end of the article but its clear that WinRed has made more money this way.

  5. The nonsense surrounding Harris’s ethnic background is just weird.

Trump rambled on about her switching identities. Is she Indian or is she Black? Did it ever occur to him and others that she can be both? And that at times, one ethnicity is discussed rather than the other?

She’s on a cooking show talking to an Indian host and sharing their background. I don’t see the issue. She even says the host looks like 1/2 my family. Implying there is a different 1/2, which we all know is black.

My daughter is 1/2 Polish and 1/2 Canadian (of Frisian background). She uses a Polish passport to work, live and travel in Europe. Is she hiding her Cdn half? Is she “using” her Polish half. No, it’s obvious in Europe that she grew up in Canada (accent, attitude, etc) but she’s also using her legitimate right to live there. At art shows, she is identified as a Canadian-Polish painter.

My current girlfriend was married to a man of Chinese descent and they have three kids together. The kids call themselves “Waysian” and they identify as both. Sometimes they stress one culture over the other – depending on whom they are dating, studying or games they play.

Modern urban North America is a melting pot and for the most part they find the questioning of identity bizarre – of course you can have more than one.

  6. The boxer Khelif is XY. It’s disgusting that he is allowed to compete against women – soon someone is going to get seriously hurt, or worse.

First the opening ceremony, then this… let the “tainted Games” continue…

  7. The Supreme Court ruling on immunity was bizarre. There was no need for it. They could have issued a “no standing” and waited for a specific case to come forward. Instead they issued a ruling that was vague and ignored precedent. It did spawn some amusing memes regarding Biden issuing “official acts”.

Like other Supreme Court rulings, it created red meat for the Democrats to waive about. I’m actually surprised it took them this long to come up with a response. “No Kings” is an amusing and simple title but it does conjure up the American Revolution.

The Democrats will win if they can motivate people to the polls – and the rulings of the Supreme Court are motivations for various groups.

Interesting poll results in “battleground” states. Democrat senators are scoring well above Harris. There is no “down ballot” effect for the Republicans. This raises the question – will Trump voters turn out just to vote for the president and then leave as the polls suggest; or perhaps just stay home since the Republican party isn’t motivating them. Will Democrats turn out for the bottom of the ballot and then vote for Harris since they are already there? Again, it’s about motivation. And it’s about the “get out and vote” mechanism put in place by each party. Does Trump have a professional organisation behind him? is there a ground game? Are there volunteers bringing little old ladies to the booth? Biden had both motivation and a ground game in 2020, Harris has inherited it. Trump fired many of the “career” Republicans. Have they been replaced? Are the replacements competent?

Wisc, Mich, and Penn will be won or lost by less than a percent. The answers to the above questions will determine it.

  8. Also, WinRed is not a Trump organization, and the majority of their money goes to Senate and Congressional campaigns.

    Nice try though.

And while what they do is bad, it’s not on par with the identity theft scam ActBlue runs where they use people’s name to launder money thru donations those people never made. Big difference.

In Algeria, she was listed as female at birth, due to genitalia, I assume, and that cannot be changed in Algeria. The IBA said they used DNA tests to conclude she was XY and therefore male. However, the IBA has been banned because of corruption and an alternative world body has been formed, World Boxing. The IBA is run by a Russian and sponsored by Gazprom. They disqualified Kheilif and claimed she was XY only after she had defeated a Russian boxer.

As I stated before, there are cases of biological women having elevated testosterone. Nature is not always neat and tidy — and some women can be masculine (and vice versa). A quick google reveals that its possible to be a biological woman and have XY chromsomes (Swyer syndrome). Gender can be complicated.

They dismiss 46,500 per month missing from the data with this editorial fig leaf:>”Those figures do not include entries at official border crossings, otherwise known as ports of entry, where the Biden administration is processing roughly 1,500 migrants per day through a phone app that distributes appointments to those waiting in Mexico.”

  12. We live in a time when it is acceptable to change identity daily. The more the merrier if it seems to meet the needs and desires of each day. Preschool books tell the young that the doctor didn’t really know what you were when you were born, the doc merely guessed. You are in charge as a young child and get to choose (all the while under the influence of coercing adults . . . you wanna a snack? Say you are are girl today.)

  13. Sorry but that XY boxer looks like a dude. And as far as “her” identifying as a “female” I suppose that takes on an entire new crux since this crazy world leaves gender off of birth certificates! Let’s just let our new little humans decide for themselves what they want to identify as! I am totally out of anything connected with the Olympics but when I saw this article it did not surprise me that they allowed this unequal match up. Par for the course …

  15. I agree with what HRW had to say regarding the post at 12:44. Acknowledging or promoting one half of one’s ancestry (in that case because Indian food was to be prepared) is not the same as denying the other half of one’s ancestry. She said half of her family is Indian, which is not the same as saying that she is not black.

  16. AJ – I know WinRed is a PAC for other Republican candidates. My note on Trump was in regards to the use of pre-checcked boxes in his 2020 campaign.

Pre-checked boxes are straight up financial fraud. It has nothing in common with electoral fraud which is a separate issue. I rarely comment on immigrants or illegal migrants voting stories. I find the source alleging voter fraud to be sketchy at best. In some municipalities, immigrants can vote and thus will answer in the affirmative if asked if they are registered to vote. In other cases, the stories are exercises in fear mongering and reverse voter motivation — vote or the illegals will do it for you.

The problem I have with these stories is the difficulty it is to register in the US. The US system is probably one of the best in the world in safeguarding the vote, and sometimes at the expense of voter rights.

I also wonder why every “illegal voter” story assumes immigrants and migrants would vote democrat? I would assume the dead to all vote democrat but living people are not that simple of a voting bloc.

If Republicans were concerned about the vote, they could employ techniques used elsewhere. Most countries allow people to check off a box on the income tax form which gives the gov’t permission to register you as a voter and allows it to check with other gov’t agencies if you are eligible. Some European countries require you to register at city hall when you move and at the same time you can register to vote. The solutions are simple – the problem is the political will.

I found this story from two days ago — so its pretty common news I think. And its not surprising – Russia wants Trump, Iran prefers Harris, and China is being subtle and is playing the long game. The whole thing is rather ironic, the West has spend most of the post WW2 era trying to influence elections in other countries and now its coming back to them (I say them because the same is happening in Canada, the UK, etc)

    Let’s see….

Will they vote for those who illegally allowed them entry and to stay, along with food stamps, free healthcare, housing and cash…

Or the one threatening to deport them en masse?

    Gee, that’s a tough one…… 🤔

  19. Entering through an official border entry and claiming refugee status is not illegal migration. And thus its not included under illegal immigration numbers; the people crossing are following the rules and are thus legal refugee claimants.

  20. Rep. Lauren Boebert has set up a GiveSendGo campaign for the Italian boxer Carini, who had to step in the ring against the biological male Khelif and had to quit 45 seconds later after getting hit hard a few times in the head. (So much for her Olympic dreams…)

Boebert is seeking to raise $196,000 for Carini – what Italy pays their Olympic athletes for a gold medal.

  23. The issue with the Algerian boxer may be that it’s actually difficult for her to change her gender. According to all documentation, she is listed as female and given how its illegal to change your gender in Algeria, its safe to assume she’s listed listed as female and was identified as such by the old fashion way.

I agree she looks like a dude and if the IBA test are correct should be allowed to identify as a guy, but there’s no way that will happen in Algeria nor do i think her family will accept any change of gender. Thus she will remain female. And here we are; upset that an obviously trans person can’t identify with the gender that best suits them.

Yes…yes it’s bad! Because whether some want to admit it or not they have entered ILLEGALLY! There is a right way and an illegal way. Those at the border are crossing illegally then receiving free healthcare, lodging, money , clothing, cell phones, wifi etc. All on the taxpayers of the US!!. And guess what. Many of those taxpayers cannot afford their own healthcare, mortgages, food, etc! Dang it we cannot provide for the world!! Especially when many coming over complain they aren’t getting enough free stuff!! Canada certainly isn’t putting up with this garbage nor any other country…why US!!??! Because the left needs the votes!’

However the person may identify aren’t there rules about hormone uses in the Olympics? I’m not particularly interested in the Olympics ( or in women’s sports for that matter) but it doesn’t seem there should be such confusion over something that has probably been litigated or otherwise decided in some way. Just curious.

  27. NJ – on the basis of our shared humanity, I think and hope we can supply basic health care, housing and food for each other. All countries should endeavour to provide what is needed. Some do, notably most Europeans, but many don’t and we are the lesser for it. We are on this planet for a short time and we can’t be divided by such nonsense as nationality.

Debra – I retired in June and as a present to myself I’m going to Europe for eight weeks – with at least three weeks with my daughter. I will leave next week and will be back before October.

Female athletes are tested for hormones and on occasion must pass a physical exam to prove their gender. The latter used to be mandatory. Apparently, the difference between natural and artificial testosterone can be tested. Thus several female athletes who have elevated testosterone are confirmed as female based on the difference between natural and artificial, and physical exams.

If the athlete in question was indeed trans it would be an easy determination but in the case of this boxer, her documentation has been female since birth and its impossible to change this in Algeria. Nature has given her an advantage. For some others its a simple lesson in how weird gender determination can be.

I’m with you – I lost interest in sports as I aged especially the Olympics. But some things capture our interest beyond the simple sport.
