  1. WASHINGTON — A Justice Department attorney who led the attempted prosecutions of hundreds of anti-Trump and anti-fascist protesters swept up in a mass arrest on the day former President Donald Trump was inaugurated in 2017 faces rare ethics charges, with the D.C. Office of Disciplinary Counsel alleging she hid exculpatory evidence from the defendants, edited videos to omit crucial context and then lied in court about her actions

Because that’s just how they roll. It is finally catching hip to them!

  2. The Biden administration will forgive $1.2 billion in student debt for another 35,000 public service workers, the Department of Education announced on Thursday.

Why it matters: The Biden administration’s latest round of debt relief brings the total loan forgiveness it has approved to $168.5 billion for 4.76 million borrowers.

Totally illegal but his handlers will try to squeeze every last dime out of taxpayers for bought and paid for votes. Disgusting but there will come a day of accountability.

“Joy Reid of MSNBC is now suggesting that Donald Trump was never hit by a bullet, and that his campaign and the Secret Service colluded to kill two people in a fake assassination attempt just so Trump could have a photo op.

    Outrageous. Insane. Defamatory.

NBC must take Reid off the air, and Donald Trump should sue her, immediately.”

  4. We watched JD Vance do a good job last night. He is very personable and with his writing background. he keeps people engaged with stories. Loved what he said about MeMaw and her 19 loaded guns which is a frightful thing while at the same time being a quite logical solution to her situation. The crowd seemed fired up by him. I kept thinking that he is 4 years older than our son. His wife is perfect for her role.

  5. I think he’s an excellent pick to carry the mantle once Trump leaves in 4 and half years.

I liked when his MeMaw told him if she caught him hanging with the drug dealer should would run him over with her car and they would never find the dealers body. He got the message.

    Yes, I’m optimistic. 😁

As somebody who’s went to West Point, served in the military, has been deployed overseas, fought in the war, the fact that Joe Biden never met with those families the fact that Joe Biden forgot — forgot — that those kids died is just unforgivable. The fact that the White house has never bothered to cleanup or say we’re sorry, it’s just unforgivable. It’s unforgivable to me as an American.””

“So I have a little different take on this performance.

The reason why Kim Cheatle is entrenched and nonresponsive and hubristic is because the Senate GOP has done nothing–absolutely nothing–to rein in the out-of-control Biden regime.

These same clowns have prioritized funding for Ukraine over holding the corrupt federal bureaucracy responsible.

    Visit Ukr4aine? ✅

    Visit the DC Gulag? ❌

Cheap talk at hearings about accountability, no action even when they had control of the Senate.

They have created arrogant, inept, defiant apparatchiks like Kim Cheatle. By abdicating their oversight duties they have empowered the Kim Cheatles and Alejandro Mayorkases and the Merrick Garlands and the Chris Wrays to name a few. Even worse, in many cases, they protected them.

Have any of them said a f***ing word about the fact a federal court and a Supreme Court justice just concluded Jack Smith was illegally appointed? The same Jack Smith whose team bragged in court last month about an indefinite and unlimited source of tax dollar funding?

Did any one of them demand answers about DOJ’s unlawful use of 1512c2 after the Fischer opinion?

Their constituents continued to be rounded up by the FBI and prosecuted for Jan 6 and none has said a word. Sen Kramer defended the killing of Ashli Babbitt and voted to increase DOJ funding.

    Not a word otherwise.

Marsha Blackburn is on the Senate Judiciary Committee–when was the last time she condemned the Garland/Monaco/Graves DOJ for the unconstitutional political persecution of J6ers?

Now they go MTG in public for the first time in forever and we are supposed to swoon? No doubt they will use these clips to raise money.

    Hard pass on the applause.”

  8. Biden’s just throwing red meat to the prog left. He has no power over the Supreme Court, and neither does Congress. They’re co equal branches, but he banks on the stupidity of his base to not know this. It would take 38 states to agree by citizen vote to amend the constitution to do what he wants. The numbers ain’t on his side. But he knows progs will lap it up.

  15. I watched the Vance speech last night and plan to watch Trump tonight. Vance did well. He is young which may appeal to younger voters. I do find myself wondering about his being married to a Hindu and how that plays out in their family.

And if someone lives in Middletown they probably need 19 guns around the house! Areas along I75 are overrun with drug cartels and illegal invaders. Hamilton, my hometown, is not the safe little community it once was when I grew up. His Memaw must have been a spitfire of a woman!😊

  19. Not all comments need to be considered just for you.

We have others here, some who may not post, and my guess is I’m not alone in holding some slight variations of political opinions within what is (or has been) conserved the conservative camp. A free and open thread would be desirable, especially as we are all coping with an environment right now that is politically stressful and even sometimes menacing overall in our country.

These are not easy times and believers should be able to exist in fellowship even when they disagree on some matters.

I’d hope this thread could be welcoming to all who want to discuss politics respectfully without rudeness — and beyond that can maybe even tolerate a difference of opinion.

There is a huge selection of serious people out there. But if you want to hear the typical establishment voices written in a hypnotic timbre that almost make the three syllable insults believable, the WSJ or perhaps the Dispatch can do you very well.

  23. On the interfaith marriage of Vance, in my opinion that is not a good idea. But on the other hand, I knew an Indian couple in my church in CT who had married in India before they both moved to the US. She was a devout Christian from a Christian family who arranged the marriage. He was Hindu. They made it work even when the children came along. The husband would come to every service with his wife and was very cheerful and sociable.

  25. My earlier point was more to suggest that there are other views out there and it’s good when we can be exposed to them.

We won’t all accept the same views (clearly) but we should feel we can discuss those without disparaging completely another’s view just because it’s not our own. I find that happens here a lot, but am hoping it can and will change as the campaign goes on. Perhaps we can even learn from each other here and there.

  26. And providing trusted sources also is good so that we don’t harm reputations with gossip and hearsay.

So much muck flies out on social media these days and as believers we need to always be careful of taking part in or in sharing that.

While that’s probably a good political rule of thumb, it’s even more so a biblical rule of thumb we all should agree to without much issue?

  28. I agree. Such as when the WSJ accuses Vance of calumny and being an isolationist without providing any evidence whatsoever. Reputation is important. It’s all the more egregious because for so many people they are a “trusted source”.

I would never censor you, or not allow you to link to the Dispatch if you chose. Free expression and all that, you’re welcome to post whatever you like, and others can view it if they chose to. It’s just not my cup of tea. I just see it as the NTers last grasp at relevancy.

  31. The isolationist tag has been around for some time and it generally has applied to those who draw a hard line at any overseas involvement. I’m not sure Vance is that guy, but his comments on Ukraine suggest he’s within that category of the farther right Republican Party which has more recently (Trump not so much, interestingly) taken up the battlecry (which is probably a bad term to use in this discussion, strike that).

I’d love to hear more discussion among the candidates on how they view America’s role in the world (assuming we have one in their view) — in terms of alliances, etc.

It’s not an easy call, when to get involved in an issue overseas (or not). And even if it seems like a wise choice to do so, it can easily turn out horribly. Or it can be something that we will feel gratitude for (WWII, which was strongly opposed by many).

So there are no guarantees for any of it and I have no problem with saying we need to be wise as serpents when it comes to those decisions. Each one will be different, so it is hard to put a blanket position over it all.

Trump, assuming he’s elected, will run the show, not Vance. Vice presidents are relegated to, well, vice presidents. Not a particularly good stepping stone historically. They do what the president wants them to do.

  32. I agree with DJ about that being a red flag.

Jim Caviezel has been in a couple of movies that I enjoyed, and his TV series “Person of Interest” was a favorite of mine when it was on. But from some things that I have read from him over the past few years, I don’t feel comfortable with him as a reliable source.

  36. Getting all caught up in a popular political figure — and/or the current trend of the day — is something the Scriptures speak about.

We are to honor and pray for our leaders, but wisdom also reminds us we (and they) are but a vapor.

And nations change. So do political parties, but even that is transitory.

I think it’s unwise (and unbiblical) to become puffed up when “our guy” wins, lording it over others (or dejected and without faith when our favored political figure loses).

Not saying politics are not important but should be viewed as transitory in this world. I’ve seen enough US elections to know that is the case. 🙂 Here today, gone tomorrow, next? …

My mom taught me the best lesson on how to be a gracious winner when I’d come home soaking wet after walking precincts in college only to watch my candidate lose.

She (who voted for the other candidate) was so gentle, said she was sorry as she had been on “that side” as well. There will be another election.

Never forgot that and I try to emulate it.

~ Sadly, there are some people who will gloat, whoever wins the election. One of the ugly traits of human nature.

~ We have had people in and out of government for over 200 years, and they still haven’t fixed everything! 😀

~ Re: Biden’s refusal to step aside, with all of those who are calling on him to do so. Just some idle speculation here, but I wonder if perhaps, if he does indeed have dementia, this could be part of that. Dementia has more aspects than forgetfulness, and belligerence or paranoia can be part of it, along with a resistance to admitting having memory problems.

Again, that is merely idle speculation.

  41. I’m sure that’s playing a role in his decision making Kizzie.

I think he should step aside immediately and let Kamala take over. That seems like the right thing to do. Also, if he’s looking for pardons or computations for family members, that would be the way to do it. Instead the will of 15 million dem primary voters will now be ignored and the party powerful will now decide it. That’s an actual threat to democracy.

  43. Wow, dj, your only takeaway from the speech was its length?

The format of the convention makes it such that it is high on audience participation, which of course takes more time. However, Pres. Trump’s speech was full of optimism and confidence, with a unifying message that sets forth a positive agenda to get our country back on track. It also, of course, included incredible raw emotion, and an acknowledgment of God’s amazing grace.

In short, it was a message of true hope, even ideally and profoundly asserting that the best is yet to come.

  44. I watched and listened to the entire speech. It was raw and deeply felt what has transpired recent days. The stark reality that we are but a breath away hit close for everyone. The determination that this country can be saved from anarchistic and our enemies was inspiring. For those refusing to stand with those willing to fight, they will reap the benefit of a better tomorrow because of those who are willing. May the Lord be with us for that is our cry.

  45. Ty, I thought I’d mentioned that the start of it was moving and kept everyone’s attention.

My critique — strictly as a “back-bench” political observer of many years watching conventions of all varieties — was that the speech from there was undisciplined and rambling, losing probably a good number of people who were not already Trump followers. Just my take.

These are keynote speeches meant to offer clear outlines, in brief form, of the candidate’s vision for his term in office, while hopefully reaching out to the general viewership made up of some who probably are still undecided.

I felt he lost most if not all of those with the rambling format that went off-message as the night drew very late. (I believe it was after midnight when he finally wrapped it up?)

So just my 2 cents as a political viewer who, as you all know, is not a particular fan of this candidate but am always interested to watch how campaigns start shaping up. And the convention speech by the nominee, at the end of it all, is a key part of that. I just felt this one was partially blown, though it seemed to be popular with those who are already onboard.

But he’ll need others as well, come election time.

  46. I try to stay dispassionate when it comes to politics, it was a 2nd major of mine in college and so I’ve always had an interest in the “nuts and bolts” of campaigns, how they play out, mistakes made and good-luck events for candidates as they make their way through the process.

Back in the dark ages, Theodore White wrote “Making of the President” books which to me, as a teen and young person were fascinating; looking at all the back stories we maybe hadn’t heard about, what led to victory or defeat.

So some of this is probably more mechanical, in “outside viewer-mode,” to me, especially in years like this when I feel a little more left out without having a candidate I’m particularly excited about or sold on (sorry everyone, I know I’m a minority of maybe 1 or 2 here, it’s not personal).
